  • A simulated network protocol provides the capability of distributed simulation to a generic simulator. Through this, full coverage of management of data and service handling among separated simulators is achieved. The distributed simulation environment is much more conducive to handling simulation load balancing and hazard treatment than a standalone computer. According to the simulated network protocol, one simulator takes on the role of server and the other simulators take on the role of client, and client is controlled by server. The purpose of the simulated network protocol is to seamlessly connect multiple simulator instances into a single simulation environment. This paper presents the development of a simulated network (simNetwork) that provides the capability of distributed simulation to a generic simulator (GenSim), which is a software simulator of satellites that has been developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute since 2010, to use as a flight software validation bench for future satellite development.

  • Exposure to ionizing radiation induces free radicals in human nails. These free radicals generate a radiation-induced signal (RIS) in electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Compared with the RIS of tooth enamel samples, that in human nails is more affected by moisture and heat, but has the advantages of being sensitive to radiation and easy to collect. The fingernail as a biological sample is applicable in retrospective dosimetry in cases of localized hand exposure accidents. In this study, the dosimetric characteristics of fingernails were analyzed in fingernail clippings collected from Korean donors. The dose response, fading of radiation-induced and mechanically induced signals, treatment method for evaluation of background signal, minimum detectable dose, and minimum detectable mass were investigated to propose a fingernail-EPR dosimetry protocol. In addition, to validate the practicality of the protocol, blind and field experiments were performed in the laboratory and a non-destructive testing facility. The relative biases in the dose assessment result of the blind and field experiments were 8.43% and 21.68% on average between the reference and reconstructed doses. The results of this study suggest that fingernail-EPR dosimetry can be a useful method for the application of retrospective dosimetry in cases of radiological accidents.

  • Necrotizing periodontal diseases, especially acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (ANUG), it should be noted, occur abruptly and progress rapidly, eventually causing severe soft-tissue and alveolar bone loss. This report presents the cases of two ANUG patients and provides a brief treatment protocol for easy and effective clinical management. After proper diagnosis, sequential treatment with cessation of mechanical brushing, along with a prescription of systemic antibiotics and chlorhexidine as a mouth rinse, scaling, root planing, and supportive periodontal therapy, was utilized. In all cases discussed in this report, there was marked improvement in a few days. ANUG, though an uncommon disease, can be efficiently managed with proper diagnosis and immediate treatment.

  • In growing patients with Class III malocclusion and midfacial deficiency, the treatment protocol calls for orthopedic maxillary protraction and clinicians choose the facemask therapy generally. But facemask is not esthetic or comfortable to patients because it should be worn extraorally. Consequently it is difficult to obtain patients cooperation, and this often influences the treatment effects negatively. MTA (modified tandem appliance), that is a small intraoral appliance, is carried conveniently and esthetic relatively. So it seemed more patient-friendly than a facemask. While the treatment effect of this is similar to that of a facemask. This report presents skeletal Class III malocclusion two cases treated by MTA with good results.

  • In this paper, we propose a drug treatment protocol for the three state HIV infection model that explicitly includes the concentration of healthy T cells, infected T cells, and HIV. While most of the previous methods are not able to achieve the treatment goal in the presence of modelling errors, the proposed method is designed so as to compensate for the model uncertainties. Based on the Jacobain linearization of nonlinear HIV infection model, disturbance observer(DOB) based control is employed to design the drug treatment for the HIV patients. Computer simulation is carried out for nonlinear model in order to compare the performance of the proposed method with that of the conventional technique. The simulation results show that, in the presence of parameter uncertainties, the substantial improvement in the performance can be achieved by the proposed DOB controller.

  • Traction has been used since ancient times in the treatment of painfull spinal conditions, but the literature on traction and its clinical effectiveness Is limited. Traction can be defined as a drawing or pulling tension applied to a body segment. Cervical traction is a technique that applies a longitudinal force of the cervical spine and associated structures. Goals of traction include reduction of radicular signs and symptoms associated with conditions such as disk protrusion, degenerative disk disease, lateral stenosis, muscle spasm, and subluxations. The various mechanical factors most relevant to cervical traction are organized and discussed. The factors presented are 1) angle of pull, 2) Traction force, 3) duration of traction, 4) neck position and clinical application, and 5) frequency of treatment. It should allow physical therapists to adjust traction protocol to match the patient's symptoms and diagnosis. The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the cervical traction and treatment guidelines.

  • Septic arthritis in neonates is a rare condition. A failure to make an early diagnosis of septic arthritis in neonates may leave a permanent disability as a result of a delayed treatment. Thus, septic arthritis, requires a prompt diagnosis and a timely treatment especially in this subset of patients. In this case report, we describe our treatment protocol for septic arthritis and concurrent osteomyelitis in the right shoulder of a 28-day-old newborn. Using 2.4 mm wrist arthroscopy, we performed an arthroscopic irrigation and drainage, to remove intra-articular debris and inflammatory tissue, and multiple drilling. We report a satisfactory clinical outcome without any postoperative complications or side effects.

  • Objectives : We already reported the effectiveness of this treatment method(electroacupuncture at oculomotor muscles) at the adult and young idiopathic paralytic strabismus patients and Miller-Fisher syndrome. Then I explored the possibility for improvement of the traumatic injury paralytic strabismus case. Methods : I treated the case by using the electroacupuncture at both paralytic lateral rectus muscle lesions. The case was treated almost daily and every treatment was enforced 10 minutes. I use the PG-306 electra-acupuncture products(Suzuki Iryoki Co. Japan) and apply the low consequence wave of 1-8Hz. Results : We gained good results from the case and not observed any sides effect or compliant. So I hope to apply this treatment for traumatic and post-operative nerve injury cases and am sure to make the treatment protocol for them in the future.
