We have studied alternating transport current losses in the vertically stacked high temperature superconducting tapes(HTS) using numerical techniques. In the case of stacked conductors, HTS tapes are exposed to self-field generated by transport current itself and also experienced external magnetic field around adjacent tapes. It is well known that magnetic interactions between neighbored tapes have significant effect on their properties of superconducting tapes such as current distribution, AC loss, and critical current. In this paper, we investigated the transport current losses in stacked conductors consisting of a few of the HTS tapes using numerical analysis. Current distributions are calculated in HTS tape cross-section taking account of magnetic field dependencies, which are represented superconducting nonlinear properties. Dissipated losses in tape and stacked conductors were integrated with current distribution and electric field intensity in the whole conductor region. Finally estimated results were discussed and verified through the analytical theory.
The effect of gamma-ray on yeast cells Sacch. cerevisiae, and the leakage of cellular constituents such as carbohydrates, ribose, amino acids, inorganic phosphates and organic phosphates have been studied. The samples of yeast cells washed throughly and starved intensively, radiation effects were compared with those of control (un-starved), the irradiation dose rates are in the range from 24 Kr. up. to 480, Kr. The loss of 260m$\mu$. absorbing material, are also observed. Mechanisms of membrane damage by gamma-irradiation are discussed corelating to permeability changes and loss of substances, then active and passive transport process are also under considerations in discussion. The experimental results are as follows, 1. Carbohydrates of yeast cell leak out by gamma-irradiation, and amounts of loss increase proportionally as the increasing of radiation dose, curve of carbohydrates loss in starved cells is parallel with those of non-starved cells. 2. Ribose leak out less than that of carbohydrate from irradiated cell, the dose response curve of loss is straight and proportional to the increasing of radiation doses, slope of the curve is much lower than of carbohydrates. 3. Amino acids also leak out and the curve of losses to radiation is not proportional, it is revealed that there are little losses from yeast at lower doses of irradiation. 4. The losses of inorganic phosphates increase unproportionally to the increasing of irradiation doses, there are little leakage at the lower doses of irradiation. The losses of organic phosphates increase proportionally to the increasing of irradiation doses, and the amount of losses are much more than that of inorganic phosphate at lower doses of irradiation. 5. Leakage from irradiated yeast cells was shown to be due to passive transport process not an energy requiring process of ion transport. 6. Loss of 260 m$\mu$. absorbing material is little more than that of control yeast by the gamma-irradiation dose of 120K.r. and 240K.r.

An analysis tool for predicting transmission loss in high speed trains based on combined use of the statistical energy analysis and the finite element methods has been proposed. The analysis utilizes a commercially available numerical solver VA ONE with imbedded NASTRAN module. The proposed analysis tool is first verified by comparing numerically predicted transmission loss of a light rail transport(LRT) structure with experimental results. The comparison shows that the numerically predicted transmission loss is similar to the experimental data. The analysis tool is then applied to the prediction of transmission loss in the high speed train(HST) currently under development. Various sub-structures such as the floor, side panel and ceiling have been numerically analyzed to predict their transmission losses. The results obtained here can be used as input data for predicting the interior noise level of the HST at design stage.

In this papre, AC losses of Bi-2223 tapes with different twist pitch of superconducting core were fabricated, measured and analyzed. These samples produced by a powder-in-tube method are multi-filamentary tape with Ag matrix. Also, it's produced by non-twist and different twist pitch(8, 10, 13, 30, 50, 70 mn). The critical current measurement was carried out under the environment in Liquid nitrogen and in zero field by 4-probe method. And the AC loss measurement was carried out under the environment of applied time-varying transport current by transport method. From experiment, the critical current is larger non-twist than twisted filament. And, the AC loss by Norris equation is higher non-twisted tape than 13mm twisted tape. Also, it is confirmed that of AC loss of tape having non-twist pitch larger than those having differnet twist pitch.
Purpose: This study evaluates a new banana bulk packaging method under the real transport conditions of Sri Lanka. Methods: A field evaluation of optimized 8-mm thick Styrofoam sheets used as the cushioning material was applied. A trial transport was conducted from Thambuttegama to Colombo using a medium-sized open truck, with banana leaves as the control material. Data were recorded at the farmer, transporter, retailer, and consumer stages of the supply chain. Mechanical damage, physiological loss in weight, fruit firmness, total soluble solids, ripeness index, visual quality ratings, and the physical damage index of the bananas were measured at each stage. A cost-benefit analysis was also conducted for both packaging methods. Results: The 8-mm styrofoam sheets significantly reduced (p < 0.05) the mechanical damage from 26.3% to 12.9% compared to the conventional method for long-distance transport, and the physiological loss in weight showed a decrease of 2.88%. The loss of firmness of the fruits followed a simmilar pattern for both methods until reaching the retailer, but at the consumer was significantly higher (p < 0.05) for the control. However, the physical damage index at the retail stage for the control showed symptoms of physical injury, whereas the bananas transported using the cushioning materials exhibited only minor symptoms. Further, the visual quality of the fruits after transport from the farmer to the consumer was preserved, which is one of the main factors affecting consumer preference and retail price. The proposed method increases the profit margin by 51.2% for Embul bananas owing to the reduced postharvest losses. Conclusion: The 8-mm thick Styrofoam sheets reduced the physical damage to the bananas, with the quality parameters maintained at the prefered level. Moreover, profits may be increased.

HTS(High Temperature Superconductor) cable has a high possibility of practical use due to the possibility of low voltage and high capacity transmission caused by its lower power loss than copper cable. On the other hand, when fault current occurred, resistance increase caused by superconductivity loss, the amount of power supplies has diminished, furthermore, it's necessary to take the possible danger of damage to HITS cable into account. Therefore, an effective plan for dealing with the above problem is to link HITS cable to SFCL. In this study, we researched the possibilities of normal transport current as well as the safety of HITS cable by analyzing the properties of transport current in HITS cable connected with SFCL.

From experiment, the susceptibility measurements were conducted while cooling in a magnetic field. Flux loss measurements were conducted as a function of ramping rate, frequency and field direction. The AC flux loss increases as the twist-pitch of the tapes decreased, in agreement with the Norris Equation. Neutron-diffraction measurements have been carried out investigate the crystal structure, magnetic structures, and magnetic phase transitions in Bi-2223([Bi, Pb]:Sr:Ca:Cu:O).

The self-field losses in a long multifilamentary Bi-2223/AgMgNi tape with varying transport current, voltage tap configurations, frequency and tape arrangements were investigated. Experimental results show that the measured losses are strongly dependent on voltage gap configurations but independent on tape arrangements. All voltage taps except the center tap are found to agree well with those predicted by Norris for an elliptical conductor. The self-field losses are purely hysteretic in nature in the range of applied frequencies for the transport currents below the critical current.

Multiple regression equation was derived for estimation of slump loss in ready mixed concrete and usefulness of the equation was verfied by field test. Factors affecting slump loss were examined and analyzed for transport distance and transport time of ready mixed concrete. The analysis showed that wait and discharge time of ready mixed concrete in job site caused difficulty in the slump control. To determine the influence of the other factors such as mix proportion, temperature of concrete, and dosage of admixture, experimental tests were performed. Generally, there was no significant difference in slump loss according to cement content and initial slump level. For one retarder, more slump loss was found, but difference according to dosage of admixture was not recognized.

The effect of size and volume fraction of ceramic particles with sliding velocity on the wear properties were investigated for the metal matrix composites fabricated by pressureless infiltration process. The particulate metal matrix composites exhibited about 5.5 - 6 times of excellent wear resistance compared with AC8A alloy at high sliding velocity, and as increasing the particle size and decreasing the volume fraction the wear resistance was improved. The wear resistance of metal matrix composites and AC8A alloy exhibited different aspects. Wear loss of AC8A alloy increased with sliding velocity linearly. whereas metal matrix composites indicated more wear loss than AC8A alloy at slow velocity region, however a transition point of wear loss was found at middle velocity region which show the minimum wear loss, and wear loss at high velocity region exhibited nearly same value with slow velocity region. In terms of wear mechanism, the metal matrix composites exhibited the abrasive wear at slow to high sliding velocity generally, however AC8A alloy showed abrasive wear at low sliding velocity and adhesive and melt wear at high sliding velocity.
