  • Water is continuously produced in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), and is transported and exhausted through polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM), catalyst layer (CL), microporous layer (MPL), and gas diffusion layer (GDL). The low operation temperatures of PEMFC lead to the condensation of water, and the condensed water hinders the transport of reactants in porous layers (MPL and GDL). Thus, water flooding is currently one of hot issues that should be solved to achieve higher performance of PEMFC. This research aims to study liquid water transport in porous layers of PEMFC by using pore-network model, while the microscale pore structure and hydrophilic/hydrophobic surface properties of GDL and MPL were fully considered.

  • Performance enhancement of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) is investigated in a device structure of ITO/TPD/Alq3/LiF/Al and ITO/TPD/Alq3/BCP/LiF/Al. Here, bathocuproine (BCP) is used as an electron-transport layer. Current density-voltage-luminance characteristics of the OLEDs show that the performance of the device is better with BCP layer than without BCP layer. The current density, luminance, luminous efficiency, and external-quantum efficiency are improved by approximately 22%, 50%, 2%, and 18%, respectively. Since the BCP layer lowers the electron energy barrier, electron transport is facilitated and the movement of hole is blocked as the applied voltage increases. This results in an increased recombination rate of holes and electrons.

  • We report highly efficient quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) with TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) as an alternative electron transport layer (ETL) and poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as an insulating layer. TiO2 NPs were applied as ETLs of inverted structured QLEDs and the effect of the addition of PMMA between ETL and emission layer (EML) on device characteristics was studied in detail. A thin PMMA layer supported to make the charge balance in the EML of QLEDs due to its insulating property, which limits electron injection effectively. Green QLEDs with a PMMA layer produced the maximum luminance of 112,488 cd/m2 and a current efficiency of 25.92 cd/A. We expect the extended application of TiO2 NPs as the electron transport layer in inverted structured QLEDs device in the near future.

  • New devices with structure of ITO/2TNATA/NPB/TCTA/CBP:7%Ir(ppy)$_3$/BCP/ETL/LiF/Al were proposed to develop high luminous green phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes and their electroluminescent properties were evaluated. The experimental devices were divided into two kinds according to the material ($Alq_3$ or SFC137) used as an electron transport layer (ETL). Luminous intensities of the devices using $Alq_3$ and SFC137 as electron transport layers were 27,500 cd/$m^2$ and 51,500 cd/$m^2$ at an applied voltage of 9V, respectively. The current efficiencies of both devices were similar as 12.6 cd/A under a luminance of 10,000 cd/$m^2$, while showed slower decay in the device with SFC137 as an ETL according to the further increase of luminance. Current density and luminance of the device with SFC137 as an electron transport layer were higher at the same voltage than those of the device with $Alq_3$ as an ETL.

  • YBCO wire has a metal substrate to improve the texture structure and highly conductive layers to increase the cryogenic stability. When AC current flows in the YBCO wire, magnetic field which is generated by the AC current magnetizes the metal substrate and induces the eddy current in the stabilizing layer. To examine the effect of the metal substrate and the conducting layer on the transport current loss of YBCO wire, this paper presents the transport current loss of YBCO wire which has metal substrate and conductive layer. YBCO wire with Ni-W substrate and copper layer were chosen as the model HTS wire for numerical calculation. Finite element method has been used to calculate the transport loss and the results of numerical calculation was compared with analytic calculation suggested by Norris.

  • High-$T_c$ superconducting (HTSC) power cable is one of the interesting parts in power application using HTSC wire. However, its stacked structure makes the current distribution between conducting layers non-uniform due to difference between self inductances of conducting layers and mutual inductances between two conducting layers, which results in lower current transmission capacity of HTSC power cable. In this paper, the transport current distribution between conducting layers was investigated through the numerical analysis for the equivalent circuit of HTSC power cable with a shield layer, and compared with the case of without a shield layer. The transport current distribution due to the increase of the contact resistance in each layer was improved. However, its magnetization loss increased as the contact resistance increased. It was confirmed from the analysis that the shield layer was contributed to the improvement of the current distribution between conducting layers if the winding direction and the pitch length were properly chosen.

  • The OLED research is gone for two directions. One is material development research, and another one is structural improvement part. All two are thing to heighten luminescence efficiency of OLED. n other to improve luminescence efficiency of OLED Electron - hole pairs must consist much more in the device Their profiles are sensitive to mobility velocity of electrons and holes. In this paper, we demonstrate the difference of velocity between hole and electron by experiments, and compare with a data of simulation and experiment changing hole carrier transport layer thickness, so we get the optimal we improve luminescence efficiency. We suggest improving the efficiency of OLEDS would be to balance the injection of electrons and holes into light emission layer of the device. And, we improve understanding of the various luminescence efficiency through experiments and numerical analysis of luminescence efficiency in variable hole carrier transport layer's thickness.

  • Superconducting transmission power cable is one of interesting parts in power application using high temperature superconducting wire. One of import ant parameters in high-temperature superconduting (HTSC) cable design is transport current distribution because it is related with current transmission capacity and AC loss. In this paper, the transport current distribution at conducting layers was investigated through the analysis of the equivalent circuit for HTSC power cable with shield layer and compared with the case of without shield layer. The transport current distribution due to of the contact resistance and the pitch was improved in the case of HTSC power cable with shield layer from the analysis.

  • We have investigated the effect of host on the device charactistics of green phosphorescent organic light emitting devices consising of mCP, CBP and TPBi. Electrons were confined within the device by inserting hole transport layer between the electro transport and the emitting layer. When the appropriate interlayers were added, the device with TPBI host layer performances were found to be dramatically enhanced, with current efficiency and lifetime of 18cd/A and 18hour.
