  • This article introduces the characterization of spin coated ZnO transparent conducting oxide on the flexible substrates. As a II-IV compound semiconductor, ZnO has a wide band gap of 3.37 eV with transparent properties. Due to this transparent properties, ZnO materials can be also employed as the transparent conducting electrode materials. Therefore, strong demands have been required for the transparent electrodes with low temperature processing and cheap cost. So, We will investigate the electrical property and optical transmittance of ZnO transparent conducting oxide through the 4-point probe resistivity meter, and ultraviolet-vis spectrometer Lamda 35, respectively.

  • Transparent conducting electrodes are essential components in various optoelectrical devices. Although indium tin oxide thin films have been widely used for transparent conducting electrodes, silver nanowire network is a promising alternative to indium tin oxide thin films owing to its lower processing cost and greater suitability for flexible device application. In order to widen the application of silver nanowire network, the electrical conductance has to be improved while maintaining high optical transparency. In this study, we report the enhancement of the electrical conductance of silver nanowire network transparent electrodes by copper electrodeposition on the silver nanowire networks. The electrodeposited copper lowered the sheet resistance of the silver nanowire networks from $21.9{\Omega}{\square}$ to $12.6{\Omega}{\square}$. We perform detailed X-ray diffraction analysis revealing the effect of the amount of electrodeposited copper-shell on the sheet resistance of the core-shell(silver/copper) nanowire network transparent electrodes. From the relationship between the cross-sectional area of the copper-shell and the sheet resistance of the transparent electrodes, we deduce the electrical resistivity of electrodeposited copper to be approximately 4.5 times that of copper bulk.

  • Transparent conducting films having a hybrid structure of GZO/Metal/GZO were prepared on glass substrates by sequential deposition using DC magnetron sputtering. Silver, copper, aluminum and zinc thin films were used as the intermediate metal layers in the hybrid structure. The electrical and optical properties of hybrid transparent conducting films were investigated with varying the thickness of metal layer or GZO layers. With increasing the metal thickness, hybrid films showed a noticeable improvement of the electrical conductivity, which is mainly dependent on the electrical property of the metal layer. GZO(40 nm)/Ag(10 nm)/GZO(40 nm) film exhibits a resistivity of $5.2{\times}10^{-5}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ with an optical transmittance of 82.8%. For the films with Zn interlayer, only marginal reduction in the resistivity was observed. Furthermore, unlike other metals, hybrid films with Zn interlayer showed a decrease in the resistivity with increasing the GZO thickness. The optimal thickness of GZO layer for anti-reflection effect at a given thickness of metal (10 nm) was found to be critically dependent on the refractive index of the metal. In addition, x-ray diffraction analysis showed that the insertion of Ag layer resulted in the improvement of crystallinity of GZO films, which is beneficial for the electrical and optical properties of hybrid-type transparent conducting films.

  • Two different transparent conducting oxide (TCO) layers of Al-doped ZnO (AZO) and $WO_3$ were prepared by a rf sputtering process. Working pressure, deposition time, and target-to-substrate distance were varied for the sputtering process to improve electrical properties of the resulting layer. Thickness of the TCO layers was measured by a profile meter of ${\alpha}$-step. To evaluate the electrical conductivity, surface resistivity of the TCO layers was measured by a four-point probe technique. Decrease of the working pressure resulted in increase of deposition rate and decrease of surface resistivity of the resulting layer. Increase of the layer thickness due to increased deposition time resulted in decrease of surface resistivity of the resulting layer. The shorter the target-to-substrate distance was, the lower was the surface resistivity of the resulting layer.

  • In the present work, a Ni-doped indium zinc oxide (NIZO) film and its multilayers with Ag layers were investigated as transparent conducting electrodes for liquid crystal display (LCD) applications, as a substitute for indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes. By interposing the Ag layer between the NIZO layers, the loss of the optical transmittance occurred; however, the Ag layer brought enhancement of electrical sheet resistance to the NIZO/Ag/NIZO multilayer electrode. The twisted nematic cell based on the NIZO/Ag/NIZO multilayer electrode exhibited superior electro-optical characteristics than those based on single NIZO electrode and was competitive compared to those based on the conventional ITO electrode. An LCD-based NIZO/Ag/NIZO multilayer electrode may allow new approaches to conventional ITO electrodes in display technology.

  • In2O3: Sn(ITO) transparent conducting films were fabricated by the electron beam evaporation method. The dependence of their electrical and optical properties on deposition conditions were examined. The optimum evaporation conditions were such that the deposition rate was 5-10\ulcornersec, oxygen partial pressure was 4x10**_4 torr, substate temperatudre was above 300\ulcorner, and SnO2 doping rate was 10 mol%. The values of sheet resistance and transmittance of the films in visible region fabricated under these optimum conditins were 12\ulcorner/ and 87-99%, respecively. And the energy conversion efficiency of the SIS solar cell fabricated using ITO was 9.16%. It is shown that the transparent conducting films can be applied to the TV camear pick-up tube and solar cell.

  • Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) are transparent in the visible and show conductivity comparable to copper, and are environmentally stable. SWCNT films have high flexibility, conductivity and transparency approaching that indium tin oxide (ITO), and can be prepared inexpensively without vacuum equipment. Transparent conducting Films (TCF) of SWCNTs has the potential to replace conventional transparent conducting oxides (TCO, e.g. ITO) in a wide variety of optoelectronic devices, energy conversion and photovoltaic industry. However, the sheet resistance of SWCNT films is still higher than ITO films. A decreased in the resistivity of SWCNT-TCFs would be beneficial for such an application. We fabricated SWCNT sheet with $KAuBr_4$ on PET substrate. Arc-discharge SWCNTs were dispersed in deionized water by adding sodum dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as surfactant and sonicated, followed by the centrifugation. The dispersed SWCNT was spray-coated on PET substrate and dried on a hotplate at $100^{\circ}C$. When the spray process was terminated, the TCF was immersed into deionized water to remove the surfactant and then it was dried on hotplate. The TCF film was then treated with AuBr4-, rinsed with deionized water and dried. The surface morphology of TCF was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy. The sheet resistance and optical transmission properties of the TCF were measured with a four-point probe method and a UV-visible spectrometry, respectively. $HNO_3$ treated SWCNT films with Au nano-particles have the lowest 61 ${\Omega}$/< sheet resistance in the 80% transmittance. Sheet resistance was decreased due to the increase of the hole concentration at the washed SWCNT surface by p-type doping of $AuBr_4{^-}$.

  • Aluminium doped zinc oxide(ZnO:Al) thin film, which is mainly used as a transparent conducting electrode in electronic devices, has many advantages compared with conventional indium tin oxide(ITO). In this paper in order to investigate the possible application of ZnO:Al thin films as a transparent conducting electrode for flexible film-typed dye sensitized solar cell (FT-DSCs), ZnO:Al and ITO thin films were prepared on the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate by r. f. magnetron sputtering method. Specially one-inched FT-DSCs using either a ZnO:Al or ITO electrode were also fabricated separately under the same manufacturing conditions. Some properties of both the FT-DSCs with ZnO:Al and ITO transparent electrodes, such as conversion efficiency, fill factor, and photocurrent were measured and compared with each other. The results showed that by doping the ZnO target with 2 wt% of $Al_2O_3$, the film deposited at discharge power of 200W resulted in the minimum resistivity of $2.2\times10^{-3}\Omega/cm$ and at ransmittance of 91.7%, which are comparable with those of commercially available ITO. Two types of FT-DSCs showed nearly the same tendency of I-V characteristics and the same value of conversion efficiencies. Efficiency of FT-DSCs using ZnO:Al electrode was around 2.6% and that of fabricated FT-DSCs using ITO was 2.5%. This means that ZnO:Al thin film can be used in FT-DSCs as a transparent conducting layer.

  • Indium free consisting of three alternating layers GTO/Ag/GTO has been fabricated by radio-frequency (RF) sputtering for the applications as transparent conducting electrodes and the structural, electrical and optical properties of the gallium tin oxide (GTO) films were carefully studied. The gallium tin oxide thin films deposited at room temperature are found to have an amorphous structure. Hall Effect measurements show a strong influence on the conductivity type where it changed from n-type to p-type at $700^{\circ}C$. GTO/Ag/GTO multilayer structured electrode with a few nm of Ag layer embedded is fabricated and show the optical transmittance of 86.48% in the visible range (${\lambda}$ = 380~770 nm) and quite low electrical resistivity of ${\sim}10^{-5}{\Omega}cm$. The resultant power conversion efficiency of 2.60% of the multilayer based OPV (GAG) is lower than that of the reference commercial ITO. GTO/Ag/GTO multilayer is a promising transparent conducting electrode material due to its low resistivity, high transmittance, low temperature deposition and low cost components.
