When the walls and floor of a tunnel are excited by a train, a ground vibration energy is transmitted to the surface and to footing of a nearby buildings. Excessive vibration affected to a building structures causes undesirable effect to the structural safety and the perception on residents in building. In this paper, a simple approach is introduced to predict how much vibration, in terms of level and spectra, is transmitted through the ground from the tunnel vibration excitation. A high rise building on a tunnel is selected as an application example of this case study.
Vibration test fixture is used in random vibration control testing. The specified reference spectrum should be transmitted equally to the specimen attachment points on the fixture. In most practical cases, however, spectrum at each of specimen attachment points may be quite different from the specified reference spectrum because of the dynamic characteristics of vibration test fixture. This paper proposes the method of experimental dynamic modification of fixture system for vibration test so that the reference spectrum can be transmitted to the specimen attachment points without distortion. The stiffness of mounts of specimen and the thickness of fixture are considered as design variables. The frequency response functions of specimen used for input data are obtained from vibration testing, and the frequency response functions of fixture are obtained from finite element modeling. The sensitivities of frequency response functions at specimen attachment points to the mount stiffness are derived from synthesis method of transfer function. And the sensitivities to the thickness of fixture are also derived from finite element modeling. The presented method is verified by computer simulation and vibration testing.

In a high-speed press, numerous moving links are interconnected and each link executes a constrained motion at high speed. As a consequence, high-level dynamic unbalance force and unbalance moment are transmitted to the main frame of the press, which results in unwanted vibration and significantly degrades manufacturing accuracy. Dynamic unbalance force and unbalance moment inevitably transmits high-level vibrational force to the foundation on which the press is installed. Minimizing the vibrational force transmitted to the foundation is critical for the protection of both the operators and the surrounding structures. The whole task should be carried out in two steps. The first step is to reduce dynamic unbalance based upon kinematic and dynamic analyses. The second step is to design and build an optimal vibration isolation system minimizing the vibrational force transmitted to the foundation. Firstly, the dynamic design method is presented to reduce dynamic unbalance force and moment. For this a 3D CAD software was utilized and a computer program was written to compute dynamic unbalance force and moment. Secondly, the design method for vibration isolation system is presented. The method for designing coil springs and viscous dampers are explained in detail.

Wind load characteristics is investigated for vibration analysis of wind turbine gearbox. A normal wind model assumed, of which the wind velocity is increased according to the height from ground. A blast wind model is assumed, of which the maximum velocity is located at the center and the velocity profile is normally distributed. The periodical torque and bending moments transmitted to the main shaft of wind turbine are investigated. The average values and the harmonic terms of the transmitted moments are studied on the wind direction of range $-45^{\circ}{\sim}45^{\circ}$ and the bending moment characteristics are examined, which is regarded as the main source of the misalignment of gear train.
The characteristics of gear meshing vibration undesgo change as the vibration is transmitted from the gear to the housing. Therefore, vibration transmission characteristics of helical gear systems must be understood before the effective methods of reducing gear noise can be found. In this work, using a helical gear with different lead errors, the gear vibration in the rotational direction and the bearing vibration are measured. The frequency characteristics of gear and bearing vibration are investigated and a comparson is also provided.

This paper presents the experimental study for the reduction of transmitted shock waves in smart structures incorporating MR insert. MR fluid is filled within the two aluminum layers and two piezoceramic disks are embedded on the host plate as a transmitter and a receiver of the shock wave. Pulse wave generated by the transmitter is transmitted to the receiver through the MR insert and the plate. By applying magnetic field to the MR insert, the amplitude of the transmitted shock wave is reduced remarkably. The attenuation performance is tested by changing the applied magnetic field on MR inserts in two ways: by changing angle of permanent rubber magnet from 90 to 5 with 5 decrements, by using electromagnet in which magnetic field is controllable. The propagating wave speed of MR insert is also investigated.

This study was conducted to determine the sound paths and transmitted sound level in house. An air-conditioner system was selected a typical sound source. The measured transmission loss data shows that the apertures have an significant effect on the transmitted noise and comparable with the existing theoretical data. Therefore the complex aperture was substitute to quantitative apertures approximately. An effective simulation method, ray tracing and mirror image source method, was employed in the prediction of transmitted sound level. The measured results were reflected on the simulated results.

In this study, we investigate active control of noise transmitted through a window of enclosures minimizing the acoustic power. To reduce noise of the enclosures, passive methods with absorbing material are generally used. The passive methods, however, are limited use due to the vantilation windows. In this case, these windows are path of noise leakage. Feedforward active noise control technology is applied to minimize the sound power from the enclosure. The feedforward controller is implemented with FIR filter based on the transfer functions calculated numerically. The controller reflects the delay due to FIR filter. The noise transmitted through the window is actively controlled, and the reduction of the power is obtained by 15dB.
In order to maintain comfortable life environment around railroad site, noise from train itself, and to train & rail interaction, and the vibration transmitted through the ground should be controlled to the extent of permissible level. In order to achieve this, the basic railroad noise & vibration data such as magnitude and frequency characteristics of them are necessary to establish the counterplan for railroad noise & vibration. In this study, we measured and analysed the characteristics of time variation, frequency, direction and distance attenuation of noise and vibration of the railroad between Seoul and Pusan.

In accordance with the tendance to construct high-rise apartment buildings, the transporting elevators tend to speed up to 90-105m/min and to drive more frequently. So, the problem of noise produced by the elevator operation has been treated as an important subject. In this research, the actual conditions of noise and vibration which generated and transmitted by the elevator operation in apartment buildings were measured and analysed. And the several noise and vibration control design which helps reduce noise were examined.
