  • A strut mount is an important part of vehicles which reduces the vibration and the impact transmitted from the wheels while supporting a shock absorber and a coil spring. Rubber compounding, shape design, and process design technologies are important components to improve the functionality of a strut mount such as durability, static, dynamic, and torsional characteristics. Among them the rubber compounding technology is the key technology which dominates the quality of a strut mount. In this study a strut mount with high reliability has been developed by adopting new rubber compounding and improving the shape of the inner plate and the isolator. Through the tests for prototypes it has been shown that the durability has been improved more than 2.5 times, from about 60,000 cycles to about 160,000 cycles.

  • A new concept tractor is developed, which can conduct multi-functional complex tasks such as excavating and working with attached various equipments. A cabin of the agricultural tractor is designed to protect the driver from vibration transmitted due to the irregular ground and overturning of the tractor. In this paper, the dynamic characteristic of the cabin is identified through finite element analysis and effects of configurational parameters are investigated to insure the dynamic stiffness of the cabin.

  • Commercial vehicles are mostly subjected to relatively rougher ground environment than passenger vehicles. Many driver's seats of commercial vehicles have suspension system with spring and dampers. Then, impact or vibrative forces transmitted from the vehicle to the driver can be attenuated. This study deals with a ride evaluation method using sky-hook control algorithm for the suspension dampers. Vibration amplitude transmissibilities were compared between passive dampers and semi-active dampers with sky-hook control method.

  • The dynamic characteristics of two types of mathematical models for a rigid body suspension system are analyzed and compared in this paper. One is a linearized model which is commonly used in the engine mount system analysis, the other is a nonlinear model which usually applied to the pendulum type system. The typical 3 d.o.f's mathematical model, for convenience, is chosen as a simulation model, because it has fundamental dynamic characteristics of suspension system. Time responses and unbalance responses of the rigid body, transmitted forces and torques are simulated by using the mathematical model. From the results of computer simulation, it is approved that he nonlinear model is valid and the linearized model gives erroneous results in the case of the pendulum type suspension system. In addition, in this study the effects of design change on the dynamic characteristics of the suspension system are investigated. Mount locations, mount angles, lengths, stiffness and damping coefficients of suspension bars are chosen as design parameters.

  • Since most of main noise sources of the railroad vehicle are transmitted to the passenger's ear through the vibration of the panel, the sound insulation performance of the panels should be high enough to protect the passenger's ear from the noisy environment. Specifically, the composite materials which are generally used for reducing the weight of the vehicle compartment have the low insulation performance, thus noise control actions should be taken appropriately by considering the insulation performance of the panels. In this study, the insulation performances of the inner/outer panels of the compartment are evaluated. In addition, the contribution of the insulation performance of aluminum door is estimated and compared to those of composite panels. The results can furnish an in-depth understanding of the insulation characteristics of the panel of railroad vehicle.

  • This paper presents the design and testing of a multi-channel vibrotactile display. It is composed of a cylindrical handle with four embedded vibrating elements driven by piezoelectric beams. Vibrations are transmitted to the hands through arrays of pins. The device was tested in sensory substitution for conveying force information during a teleoperated peg insertion. Results show that the device is effective in reducing peak forces during the insertion task.

  • A dynamic model of pump having one step gearbox and two step gearbox is developed by the lumped parameter method. The model accounts for shafts, ball bearings and journal bearings flexibilities, gyroscopic effects and the force couplings among the transverse and torsion motions due to gearing. Excitation forces of pump having one step gearbox and two step gearbox are considered as the mass unbalance of the rotors and gear transmission error which comes from the modified tooth surface. A Campbell diagram, in which the excitation sources caused by the mass unbalance of the rotors and the transmitted errors of the gearing are considered, shows that there are no critical speeds at the operating speeds. One step and two step gearboxes are manufactured and are estimated for vibration/noise, lubrication and performance.

  • Vehicle seats provide a comfortable ride for passengers by properly absorbing vibrations and shocks transmitted during driving. Vibration analyses on three models with different shapes were carried with the same material properties and constraint conditions. By varying the height of the seat-back, models 1, 2, and 3 were designed according to the inclined angle of the seat-back frame. Models 1, 2, and 3 were modeled with relatively simple designs using CATIA. The areas touching the buttocks of passengers show the most deformation. This work shows that seat durability and stability can vary depending on the shape of the seat design.

  • Underwater acoustic communication channel is influenced by environmental parameters such as multipath, background noise and scattering. Therefore, a transmitted signal is influenced by the sea surface and the sea bottom boundaries, and a received signal shows a delay spread. These factors create a noise in the image and degrade the quality of underwater acoustic communication. To solve these problems, in this paper, we evaluate the performance of an underwater acoustic communication model using a denoising auto-encoder used for unsupervised learning. Noise images generated by the underwater multipath channel were collected and used as training data. Experimental results were analyzed as a PSNR parameter that expressed the noise ratio of the two images.
