Vibration Characteristics of the Fruit and Vegetables during Transportation (I) - Vibration Charateristics of the Pear by Experimental Analysis - (유통중 청과물의 진동 특성 연구 (I) - 실험적 해석에 의한 배의 진동특성 -)

  • Fruit and vegetables are subjected to complex dynamic stresses in the transportation environment. During a long journey from the production area to markets, there is always some degree of vibration present. Vibration inputs are transmitted from the vehicle through the packaging to the fruit. Inside, these cause sustained bouncing of fruits against each other and container wall. These steady state vibration input may cause serious fruit injury, and this damage is particularly severe whenever the fruit inside the package is free to bounce, and is vibrated at its resonance frequency. The determination of the resonance frequencies of the fruit and vegetables may help the packaging designer to determine the proper packaging system providing adequate protection for the fruit, and to understand the complex interaction between the components of fruit when they relate to expected transportation vibration inputs. Instrumentation and technologies are described for determining the vibration response characteristics of the fruits with frequency range 3 to 150 Hz. The computer program for controlling the vibration exciter and the function generator and for measuring the vibration response characteristics of the fruits was developed. The resonance frequency of the pear ranged from 64.5 to 72.2 Hz and the amplitude at resonance was between 1.78 and 2.21 G-rms. The resonance frequency and amplitude at resonance decreased with the increase of the sample mass, and they were slightly affected by mechanical properties such as bioyield deformation and rupture deformation. Regression analysis was performed among the relatively high correlated parameters from the results of correlation coefficient analysis.

Development of Vibration Absorption Device for the Transportation-Trailer System(I) - Characteristics for the existing vehicle - (수송 트레일러의 충격 흡수 장치 개발(I) - 보급기종에 대한 특성 및 진단 -)

  • This study was aimed to identify how the main body vibration of power tiller will be transmitted to the trailer, and to find out the basic information for demage reducing method of agricultural products during transportation. The vertical vibration acceleration level was measured at 6 positions, i.e. engine, hitch, seal and three parts of trailer (front middle, and rear) for the not driving but at the engine speeds of 1,000rpm and driving at 0.35m/s. The results of this research could be summarized as follows; 1. For not driving, the accumulated acceleration level up to 120Hz was 50% of total accelerations at engine part and those were 28~41% at other parts. Those up to 40Hz were 20~30% at engine and hitch part and 2~8% at trailer part. And those up to 20Hz were 13~20% at engine and hitch part and 1~4% at trailer part 2. For the driving with 0.35m/s at paved road, the average vertical accelerations were in the range of 0.005~0.058m/s$^2$. The lowest value of 0.005m/s$^2$ was showed at engine part and the value of 0.031-0.058m/s$^2$ was showed at trailer part. 3. For the driving with 0.35m/s, the accumulated value of average vertical accelerations showed the lowest value at engine parts md showed 5 times value of engine part at trailer part especially highest value at middle part of trailer. 4. For the driving with 0.35m/s, the accumulated acceleration level up to 120Hz was 75% of total accelerations at engine part and those were 20~42% at other parts. Ant those up to 20Hz and 40Hz were 24~26% at engine part and 0.1~0.6% at trailer part.

Study on Wireless Acquisition of Vibration Signals (진동신호 무선 수집에 대한 연구)

  • A Wi-Fi signal network (WSN) system is introduced in this paper. This system consists of several data-transmitting sensor modules and a data-receiving server. Each sensor module and the server contain a unique intranet IP address. A piezoelectric accelerometer with a bandwidth of 12 kHz, a 24-bit analog-digital converter with a sampling rate of 15.625 kS/s, a 32-bit microprocessor unit, and a 1-Mbps Wi-Fi module are used in the data-transmitting sensor module. A 300-Mbps router and a PC are used in the server. The system is verified using an accelerometer calibrator. The voltage output from the sensor is converted into 24-bit digital data and transmitted via the Wi-Fi module. These data are received by a Wi-Fi router connected to a PC. The input frequencies of the accelerometer calibrator (320 Hz, 640 Hz, and 1280 Hz) are used in the data transfer verification. The received data are compared to the data retrieved directly from the analog-to-digital converter used in the sensor module. The comparison shows that the developed system represents the original data considerably well. Theoretically, the system can acquire vibration signals from 600 sensor modules at an accelerometer bandwidth of 15.625 kHz. However, delay exists owing to software processes, multiplexing between sensor modules, and the use of non-real time operating system. Hence, it is recommended that this system may be used to acquire vibration signals with up to 10 kHz, which is approximately 70% of the theoretical maximum speed of the system.   • Underwater radiated noise is one of the vital factors in underwater weapon systems like submarine. A passive elastic mount is an effective reduction method for the vibration from a ship-board machinery transmitted to the hull which is radiated as noise outside the hull. A passive elastic mount shows the limitation on the vibration reduction and needs multi stage mounting system including double stage one to meet the required underwater radiated noise criteria. It is necessary for the multi stage mounting system to consider the large displacement in the underwater shock explosion. So it is difficult to apply the multi stage mounting system in submarine because of space limitation. Also recent navy sonar system are trying to have the capability to detect the ship-borne acoustic signals in the low frequency range. An alternative to the passive mount is an active mount with moving-coil type electromagnetic actuator based on a conventional rubber mount in the low frequency range. In the previous paper, 4 active mounts with moving-coil type electromagnetic actuator based on the rubber mount were installed on the hard floor of the facility, which means no consideration on the elastic foundation effect for the control of the active mounts was taken into account. In this study, an experimental performance analysis on the active mount was carried out using 4 active mounts installed on the cylindrical structure to investigate the elastic foundation effect.

Direct Velocity Feedback for Tip Vibration Control of a Cantilever Beam with a Non-collocated Sensor and Actuator Pair (비동위치화된 센서와 액추에이터를 이용한 외팔보의 끝단 진동에 대한 직접속도 피드백제어)

  • This paper presents a theoretical and experimental study of a non-collocated pair of piezopolymer PVDF sensor and piezoceramic PZT actuator, which are bonded on a cantilever beam, in order to suppress unwanted vibration at the tip of the beam. The PZT actuator patch was bonded near the clamped part and the PVDF sensor, which was triangularly shaped, was bonded on the other part of the beam. This is because the triangular PVDF sensor is known that it can detect the tip velocity of a cantilever beam. Because the arrangement of the sensor and actuator pair is not collocated and overlapped each other, the pair can avoid so called 'the in-plane coupling'. The test beam is made of aluminum with the dimension of $200\times20\times2mm$, and the two PZT5H actuators are both $20\times20\times1mm$ and bonded on the beam out-of-phase, and the PVDF sensor is $178mm\times6mm\times52{\mu}m$. Before control, the sensor-actuator frequency response function is confirmed to have a nice phase response without accumulation in a reasonable frequency range of up to 5000 Hz. Both the DVFB and displacement feedback strategies made the error signal from the tip velocity (or displacement) sensor is transmitted to a power amplifier to operate the PZT actuator (secondary source). Both the control methods attenuate the magnitude of the first two resonances in the error spectrum of about 6-7 dB.

Vibration Control of Vehicle using Road Profile Information (외란 형상 정보를 활용한 진동제어)

  • In this study, based on the RPS algorithm, the application results to an electrically controlled suspension system using previewed road information are presented. Reducing the excessive vibration induced by a disturbance transmitted to the system and secure its stability is a major issue. In particular, in the automotive industry, the demand is constantly being raised. A typical external disturbance causing vibration and instability of a vehicle is an irregular roadway surface that contacts a running vehicle tire. Therefore, obtaining such profile information is an important process. The RPS algorithm using a multi sensor system was constructed and implemented in a real car. Through experimental work using the RPS system included non-contact type optical sensors, it could robustly reconstruct the road input profiles from the intermixed data onto the vehicle's dynamic motion while traveling at an uneven roadway surface. A controller with a preview control was designed in the framework of a semi-active suspension system based on the 7 degrees of freedom full vehicle model. The control performance of the system was evaluated through simulations and the results were compared with the passive vehicle condition. These results highlight the feasibility of the presented control frame.

A study on monitoring for process time and process properties by measuring vibration signals transmitted to the mold during injection molding (사출성형공정에서 금형에 전달되는 진동 신호 측정을 이용한 성형 단계별 공정시간과 공정특성의 모니터링에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, the vibration signal of the mold was measured and analyzed to monitoring the process time and characteristics during injection molding. A 5 inch light guide plate mold was used to injection molding and the vibration signal was measured by MPU6050 acceleration sensor module attached the surface of fixed mold base. Conditions except for injection speed and packing pressure were set to the same value and the change of the vibration signal of the mold according to injection speed and packing pressure was analyzed. As a result, the vibration signal had a large change at three points: "Injection start", "V/P switchover", and "Packing end". The time difference between "injection start" and "V/P switchover" means the injection time in the injection molding process, and the time difference between "V/P switchover" and "Packing end" means the packing time. When the injection time and packing time obtained from the vibration signal of the mold are compared with the time recorded in the injection molding machine, the error of the injection time was 2.19±0.69% and the error of the packing time was 1.39±0.83%, which was the same level as the actual value. Additionally, the amplitude at the time of "injection start" increased as the injection speed increased. In "V/P switchover", the amplitude tended to be proportional to the pressure difference between the maximum injection pressure and the packing pressure and the amplitude at the "packing end" tended to the pressure difference between the packing pressure and the back pressure. Therefore, based on the result of this study, the injection time and packing time of each cycle can be monitored by measuring the vibration signal of the mold. Also, it was confirmed that the level and trend of process variables such as the injection speed, maximum injection pressure, and packing pressure can be evaluated as the change of the mold vibration during injection molding.

  • It is necessary to consider the stability, economic environmental-friendly problems by the development of the road, supply of the automobile, environmental problem as designing the exhaust system. To reduce the noise and the vibration of the automobile, it is needed to consider the pulsation noise, air current noise, vibration of air pipe which generate the intake and exhaust noise of the automobile. Moreover, the discharge sounds, intake sound, radiation sound, transmitted sound are occurred. To reduce this influence, the variable valve is needed and to control these factors, path transformation muffler and active type muffler are needed. While engine efficiency could be reduced with this transformationand resistance by the pressure, thermal property. In this study, how to design exhaust systems yielding higher condversion efficiency, lower backpressure and optimize the performance. this study is recommended for exhaust system and designers and engineers involved in SI engine exhaust system and it will furnish information for you to design more efficient.

Improvement of an Ultrasonic Transducer for Measuring Both Flow Velocity and Pipe Thickness (유속 및 파이프 두께 측정 겸용 초음파 트랜스듀서 개선)

  • The paper deals with improvement of a piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer for measuring both pipe thickness and flow velocity. The transducer structure is based on the conventional transducers for measuring flow velocity by obliquely transmitting ultrasonic waves to the flow direction. The transducer invented earlier for measuring flow velocity and pipe thickness had an advantage of including only one piezoelectric disc, but for the thickness measurement the ultrasonic wave had to be reflected twice in a wedge material to be transmitted vertically to a pipe, and thus the wave signal was too weak. The transducer has been improved to transmit waves for thickness measurement vertically to a pipe without any prior reflection by electrically connecting two piezoelectric discs, one for flow velocity and the other for pipe thickness measurement. By comparing the measured results of specimen thickness with the improved transducer and conventional transducers, the accuracies of the improved one have been evaluated in the pipe thickness measurements.

A Test Technique for Performance Evaluation of a Filter and Control Loop on the Missile Vibration using Floating System (부유시스템을 이용한 유도탄 조종루프 진동저감 성능확인 시험기법)

  • The acceleration and the angular velocity that include natural frequencies of a missile detected by Inertial Measurement Unit(IMU) are transmitted to the control loop of a missile. The control loop command that is calculated using above signals can cause the resonance of the missile while it flies. Hence it is common to adapt the filter and the control loop for attenuating or eliminating the undesired signals such as natural frequencies. This paper introduces the new test technique using a floating system for performance evaluation of the designed filter and the control loop prior to a flight test. The proposed scheme can check out the degradation property of vibration in the filter and the control loop, while the conventional hardware-in-the-loop simulation(HILS) scheme cannot.
