  • TETRA is the standard of Digital Trunked Radio System developed by the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). It is currently adopted as Electric Power IT Wireless Backbone Network in Korea, and a national enterprise is going on for versatile utilization of TETRA. To use TETRA wireless network, TETRA modem is very necessary such that performance measurements are very crucial for each TETRA modem by various manufacturers. In this paper, PED (Protocol Evaluation Data) is suggested for PD performance measurement in D-TRS wireless network environment. The performance measurements for different data lengths and transmission intervals are done using TG (Traffic Generator) on Test Bed. The data size is increased by 10 bytes from 10-byte to 400-byte, and it is measured 1,000 times for each transmission interval of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 seconds. Based on the transmission time measured, average transmission speed and MER (Message Error Rate) are derived for TETRA Modem performance measurement. Two TMR880i's of EADS are used for TETRA modem, and SwMI (Switching and Management Infrastructure) of EADS is used for switching system in this paper.

  • In this paper, we propose a Clustering-based Cooperative Routing using OFDM (CCRO) for supporting transmission efficiency in mobile wireless sensor networks. The main features and contributions of the proposed method are as follows. First, the clustering method which uses the location information of nodes as underlying infrastructure for supporting stable transmission services efficiently is used. Second, cluster-based cooperative data transmission method is used for improving data transmission and reliability services. Third, OFDM based data transmission method is used for improving data transmission ratio with channel efficiency. Fourth, we consider realistic approach in the view points of the mobile ad-hoc wireless sensor networks while conventional methods just consider fixed sensor network environments. The performance evaluation of the proposed method is performed via simulation using OPNET and theoretical analysis. The results of performance evaluation show improvement of transmission efficiency.

  • IDS can be used as a countermeasure for malicious attacks which cause degrade of network transmission performance by disturbing of MANET routing function. In this paper, effects of IDS for transmission performance on MANET under grayhole attacks which has intrusion objects for a part of transmissions packets, some suggestion for effective IDS will be considered. Computer simulation based on NS-2 is used for performance analysis, performance is measured with VoIP(: Voice over Internet Protocol) as an application service. MOS(: Mean Opinion Score), CCR(: Call Connection Rate) and end-to-end delay is used for performance parameter as standard transmission quality factor for voice transmission.

  • In this paper, we have evaluated the performance of an OFDM system using hierarchical 16QAM (OFDM/HL-16QAM) for achieving high quality and high speed data and image transmission in multipath fading channel. The wireless channel for performance evaluation is assumed to include AWGN and two ray multipath fading. Through simulation we have obtained the BER performance of the system according to $E_{b}$, $N_{0}$, then compared the received image quality of proposed system with that of conventional system. From the result, it is shown that the OFDM/HL-16QAM system is more effective for data and image transmission.n.n.

  • DS1 transmission systems use framing bit errors, bipolar violations and code-detected errors to estimate the bit error rate when determining errored and severely errored seconds. Using the coefficient of variation under the memoryless binary symmetric channel assumption, a basic framework to evaluate these estimation schemes is proposed to provide a practical guideline in determining errored and severely errored seconds which are fundamental in monitoring the real-ime error performance of DS1 transmission systems carrying live traffic. To evaluate the performance of the cyclic redundancy check code (CRC), a computer simulation model is used. Several drawbacks of the superframe format in association with real time error performance monitoring are discussed. A few recommendations are suggested in measuring errored and severely errored seconds, and determining service limit alarms through the use of the superframe format. Furthermore, we propose a new robust scheme for determining service limit alarms which take into consideration the limitations of some estimation schemes for the time interval of one second.

  • The reliability of power system components can be affected by a numbers of factors such as the health level of components, external environment and operation environment of power systems. These factors also affect the electrical parameters of power system components for example the thermal capacity of a transmission element. The relationship of component reliability and power system is, therefore, a complex nonlinear function related to the above-mentioned factors. Traditional approaches for reliability assessment of power systems do not take the influence of these factors into account. The assessment results could not, therefore, reflect the short-term trend of the system reliability performance considering the influence of the key factors and provide the system dispatchers with enough information to make decent operational decisions. This paper discusses some of these important operational issues from the perspective of power system reliability. The discussions include operational reliability of power systems, reliability influence models for main performance parameters of components, time-varying reliability models of components, and a reliability assessment algorithm for power system operations considering the time-varying characteristic of various parameters. The significance of these discussions and applications of the proposed techniques are illustrated by case study results using the IEEE-RTS.

  • In this paper we implement a 6LoWPAN protocol on the MICAz sensor platform, which could minimize packet re-transmission, and support security primitives for packet integrity and confidentiality. And we also present a performance evaluation of the implemented protocol calculated according to the cryptographic algorithms. In the re-transmission method, time stamp, nonce, and checksum are considered to protect replay attacks. As cryptographic algorithms, AES, 3DES, SHA2, and SHA1 are implemented. If transmission errors (thus, packet losses) and the number of hops are increase then, packet re-transmissions are increase exponentially from the experimental results. Also, the result shows that cryptographic operations take more time than packet re-transmission time.

  • In this paper, a performance evaluation method for the Trunked Land Mobile Radio System, so called TRS(Trunked Radio System), is presented. The proposed evaluation method employs LCD(Lost Call Delayed) system model and Erlang-C distribution. In this system, queues are used to hold call requests that are initally blocked. When a user attempts a call and a channel is not immediately available, the call request may be delayed until a channel becomes available. For evaluating system performance, therefore, the probability that any caller is delayed in the queue for a waiting time greater than t seconds is derived and simulated by using such parameters as total number of available channels, traffic load and average duration of a call. Furthermore, the performance of the message and the transmission trunked channel assignment strategies is compared. The performance simulation results show that transmission trunking is shown to be more efficient than message trunking.

  • The smart substation is the heart of a transmission system, which is particularly emphasized as the most significant composition of smart grids in China. In order to assess the functionality performance of substation technologies, this paper presents methods used to identify the most promising solutions for smart substation design and to evaluate the technical levels of available technologies. The multi-index optimization model is presented to address the issue of smart substation planning. A mathematical model of the planning decision problem is established with multiple objectives consisting of economic, reliability, and green key indices, and many kinds of concerns including physical and environmentally friendly operations are formulated as a set of constraints. With respect to the assessment of the technical level regarding integration of advanced technologies into a substation, a modified grey whitenization weight function is adopted to structure a novel grey clustering method. The proposed grey clustering approach is used to overcome the difficulty of insufficient quantitative assessment capacity for traditional methods. The evaluation of technical effects provides the classification definition for the development phase and the maturity level of the smart substation. The effectiveness of the proposed approaches in planning decision-making and evaluation of construction efforts is demonstrated with case studies involving the actual smart substation projects of Wenchongkou substation in China Southern Power Grid (CSG) and Mengzi substation in State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC).
