We perform two kinds of computer simulations on polydisperse hard-sphere systems; a molecular-dynamics simulation on atomic systems and a Brownian-dynamics simulation on colloidal suspensions. Analyses of the mean square displacement, the radial distribution function, and the pressure suggest that there exist three phase regions, a liquid phase region, a metastable phase region, and a crystal phase region, where the freezing and melting points are shifted to the values higher than in monodisperse case. It is also shown that the long-time behavior of colloidal suspensions is exactly the same as that of atomic systems.

The microstructural transitions of aqueous micellar solutions of cetyltrime-thylammonium bromide and sodiumdodecyl sulfate by adding 1-hexanol were investigated, measuring the concentrations of equilibrated phases and the electrical conductivities at the low concentrations of surfactants, where the solobilities of 1-hexanol varied significantly, at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and 45$^{\circ}C$. Ternary phase diagrams of multiphase regions, constructed by liquid chromatography analysis and by counting the number of phase of samples, consisted of one three-phase region and three two-phase regions. One of the two-phase regions was found to equilibrate an aqueous micellar solution and a liquid crystal, and had a critical point between them. Near this region, the solubility curve varied abruptly, and the isotropic solution turned birefrigent. The conductivities of the single phase regions above the critical point increased up to a certain point as 1-hexanol added, and then decreased, representing the microstructural transition at the supercritical region. Further, the solubility of 1-hexanol in aqueous micellar solution was found to increase as temperature and the number of hydrophilelipophile balance of surfactants increase.
This paper investigates the effects of outdoor pressure fluctuations on natural ventilation through openings of a building envelope. The ventilation airflow rate depends on the magnitude and the period of the pressure fluctuations, the size of the opening compared to the space volume, and the resistance characteristics of the opening. Non-dimensional parameters have been derived, which determine indoor pressure responses due to outdoor pressure fluctuations. The flow regions are categorized into synchronized region, opening resistance region, and transition region depending on the non-dimensional parameters.

This paper investigates the effects of outdoor pressure fluctuations on natural ventilation through an opening on a building envelope. The ventilation airflow rate depends on the magnitude and the period of the pressure fluctuations, the size of the opening relative to the space volume, and the resistance characteristics of the opening. Non-dimensional parameters have been derived, which determine indoor pressure responses due to outdoor pressure fluctuations. The flow regions are categorized into (1) synchronized region, (2) opening resistance region, and (3) transition region depending on the non-dimensional parameter derived. Pressure fluctuations and flow characteristics are investigated numerically using the 4th order Runge-Kutta method.

An induction machine can be operated in the constant power region over an extended high speed range by means of field weakening. A conventional field weakening method is to set the flux reference inversely proportional to the rotor speed. With this method, however, the machines can't yield the maximum torque over the entire high speed range. In this paper, a new field weakening method for the field oriented induction machine drive by the voltage control strategy is presented. The proposed scheme ensures not only producting the maximum torque over the entire field weakening region but also the robust control independent on machine parameters. Also the smooth transition into the field weakening operation and fast dynamic response during transient operation can be obtained. Simulation and experimental results from a 3hp laboratory induction motor drive system are done to confirm the proposed control algorithm.
Based on the 2-dimensional charge-control simulation[4], a purely analytical model for MODFET's is proposed. In this model, proper treatment of the diffusion effect in the 2-DEG transport due to the gradual channel opening along the 2-DEG channel was made to explain the enhanced mobility and increased thershold voltage. The channel thickness and gate capacitance are experssed as functions of gate vlotage including subthreshold characteristics of the MODFET's analytically. By introducing the finite channel opening and an effective channel-length modulation, the slope of the saturation region of the I-V curves was modeled. The smooth transition of the I-V curves from linear-to-saturation region of the I-V curves was possible using the continuous Troffimenkoff-type of field-dependent mobility.
Furthermore, a correction factor f was introduced to account for the finite transtition section forming between the GCA and the saturated section. This factor removes the large discrepanicies in the saturation region fo the I-V curves presicted by existing 1-dimensional models. The fitting parameters chosen in our model were found to be predictable and vary over relatively small range of values.
This paper presents the method of determining state feedback gains of XPTOS for disk drive servomechanism based BESSEL filter prototype. A typical disk drive actuator can be modeled as second order dynamics for low frequencies. However, the response at higher frequencies shows resonant behavior which cannot be easily modeled. XPTOS consists of the nonlinear control region and the linear control region. In the linear control region, the poles of a second order nominal model of plant must be properly relocated by pole placement technique to attenuate resonant modes at high frequency and to attain minimum time state transition. It is difficult to select position to satisfy this object because velocity feedback gain is subjected to position feedback gain in XPTOS. Here poles of BESSEL filter prototype are selected to determine state feedback gains of XPTOS. Simulation results for disk drive servomechanism using XPTOS having state feedback gains by the proposed method are presented.
Flow characteristics of jet impingement over concave hemispherical surface with effusion cooling holes is relatively more complex than that of a flat surface, so the experimental validation for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) results is important. In this study, experimental results were compared with simulation results obtained by assuming different turbulence models. The vortex was observed in the region between the central jets where the recirculation structure appeared. The different patterns of vorticity distributions were observed for each turbulence models due to different interaction of the injected jet flow. Among them, the transition k-kl-ω model predicted similarly not only the jet potential core region with higher velocity, but also the recirculation region between the central jets. From the validation, it may be helpful to accurately predict heat and mass transfer in jet impingement/effusion hole system.
Detailed aspects of the charge disproportionation (CD) transition for a polycrystalline $La_{1/3}Sr_{2/3}FeO_{2.96}$ were studied with the X-ray diffraction, $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy, and SQUID magnetometer. The crystal structure was found to be rhombohedral with a space group R/3c. The lattice parameters were $a_R=5.4874\;\AA,\;and\;a_R=60.07^{\circ}$, respectively. $M\ddot{o}ssbauer$ spectra were taken within a wide range of temperature from 4.2 K up to room temperature. In the low temperature region, the spectra were comprised of two superimposed sextets which originated from $Fe^{3+}\;and\;Fe^{5+}$, respectively. This was the antiferromagnetic mixed valence state produced by the charges disproportionated into two different species. In the high temperature region, however, only a singlet from $Fe^{3.6+}$ was observed, indicating that it was a paramagnetic averaged valence state. The CD transition occurred in the temperature range from 175 K to 200 K, in which the two phases coexisted. The origin for the CD transition was explained by the thermally generated fast hopping of electrons. Hysteresis loop showed that there existed a strong antiferromagnetic interaction among magnetic ions. As the temperature increased thru the CD transition temperature, it was very likely that the interaction between $Fe^{3+}\;and\;Fe^{5+}$ was replaced by a more stronger one.
There has been a lot of research on the real estate market, but a lack of research on the supply and demand of housing supply in each region, reflecting the changes in population growth and supply. It is calculated as the transition probability of the Markov chain model by reflecting the data on the number of houses per 1,000 people in the past 35 years and the forecast data for population change by region, in terms of supply (housing) to demand (population) for factors on the real estate market. According to the calculation results of the real estate market by region, the housing supply to the metropolitan area such as Gyeong-gi, Incheon, and Seoul is expected to be insufficient for a considerable period of time, considering the population changes by region. To stabilize the real estate market, it was confirmed that it was necessary to actively apply the differentiation of housing supply by region. It is meaningful in terms of verifying long term trends in the real estate market by region that reflect the prediction of population change, and it is expected that the methods used in this study will be practical through the analysis results using the historical data.
