In this paper, we describe the failure analysis and representation test method that applied high frequency transformer for SMPS through analysing insulation resistance, frequency characteristic, CT analysis, Q-factor atc. And we study the judgement method that a high frequency transformer affects to other beside parts in different condition or environment. According to this method, we devise a plan for the field failure prevent and propose the securing product reliability of high frequency transformer.
Subway is electrified railway system nowadays, in which liquid dielectric transformers have been widely used, though mold type transformers are replacing it. The transformers supplies large electric power and have innate hazards causing accidents under operation. A number of researcher have carried out on failures of it and have oriented to identify transformer's failure causes and how to maintain it healthy state. The transformer failures can cause serious accidents which can provoke economic loss and leads persons to kill. In this paper, we carried out a safety activity to reveal hazards and to estimate risk of subway liquid dielectric transformers using FMEA, HAZOP and What-if methods. In case of installing safety devices in oil immersed transformer, we tried to evaluate an effect on a subsystem's failure rate. We proposed how to design subsystem failure rate and safety device failure rates.
This study aims to research and analyze the cause and countermeasures of the short-circuit test failures of the distribution transformer, which captures failure share at the highest level when carrying out its performance test. For this purpose, the research was done on the basis of 77 failure cases out of 998 tests in total performed by the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute(KERI) from 2004 to 2010. Based on the research, the paper also includes analysis of the causes of the short-circuit test failures in its early stage of transformer development and proposes its countermeasures accordingly.
KEPCO's plan is undergoing a trial operation to replace the open-loop section with ring main units configuration where underground distribution lines are installed, by linking the multi-way circuit breakers auto (MCA) on the power side of each pad-mounted transformer. However, ring main units application mentioned above may cause the ripple effects, when implementing the configuration without a study of protection coordination. Because ring main units with classical pre-set protection devices contribution in fault condition didn't consider yet. For the reliable ring main units operation, it is necessary to resolve several protection issues such as the protection coordination with substation side, prevention of the transformer inrush current. These issues can radically deteriorate the distribution system reliability Hence, it is essential to design proper protection coordination to reduce these types of problems. This paper presents a scheme of ring main units' configuration and MCA's settings of time-current curves to preserve the performance of protection coordination among the switchgears considering constraints, e.g. prevention of the ripple effects (on the branch section when a transformer failure occurs and the mainline when a branch line failure occurs). It was confirmed that the propagation of the failure for each interrupter segment could be minimized by applying the proposed TCC and the interrupter settings for the MCAs (branch, transformer). Further, it was verified that the undetected area of the distribution automation system (DAS) could be supplemented by having the MCA configurated ring main units operate first, instead of the internal protection equipment in the transformer such as the fuse, STP when a transformer failure occurs.
This report is on how to extend the life of transformer and reduce losses resulted from fire and faiure of transformer through the proper maintenance and fire protection of Oil-insulated transformer
A wide range of data is available as too causes of large power transformers. Although the percentage of transformer component failure rates vary, all data shows that the top three failure mechanisms are Load Tap Changers (LTC), Bushings and Windings. To date, the most common methods employed to determine the health of a transformer are off line tests and online temperature monitoring, winding hotspot calculations and dissolved gas analysis.

Electric transformers are major components of electrical systems, and damage to them caused by earthquakes can result in significant financial loss. The current study modeled a three-dimensional (3D) isolated electrical transformer under horizontal and vertical records from different earthquakes. Instead of using fixed coefficients, an improved wavelet method has been used to create the greatest compatibility between the response spectra and the target spectrum. This method has primarily been used for dynamic analysis of isolated structures with spring-damper devices because it has shown greater accuracy in predicting the response of such structures. The effect of the nonlinear soil-structure interaction on the probability of transformer failure also has been investigated. Soil and structure interaction modeling was carried out using a beam on a nonlinear Winkler foundation. The effect of the nonlinear soil-structure interaction during dynamic analysis of transformers revealed that the greatest increase in the probability of transformer failure was in the fixed-base condition when the structure was located on soft soil. This intensified the response of the structure and increased the probability of transformer failure by up to 27% for far-field and up to 95% for near-field ground motions. A comparison of the results indicates that the use of 3D isolation systems in transformers in areas with soft clay that are subject to near-field ground motions can strongly reduce the probability of failure and improve the seismic performance of the transformer.
The purpose of this paper is to carry out Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and use criticality in order to determine risk priority number of the components of electric power installations in Engineering college building of D university. In risk priority number, GROUP A had 7 failure modes; more specifically, Transfomer had 4 modes, Filter(C)(1 mode), LA(1 mode), and CB(MCCB)(1 mode), and thus 4 components had failure modes. In terms of criticality, high-grade group a total of 16 failure modes, and 7 components-LA(1 mode), CB(MCCB)(1 mode), MOF(2 modes), PT(1 mode), Transformer(7 modes), Cable(3 modes), and Filter(C)(1 mode)-had failure modes. Comparison of risk priority number and criticality was made. The components which had high risk priority number and high criticality were Transformer, Filter(C), LA, and CB(MCCB). The components which had high criticality were MOF and cable. In particular, Transformer(RPN: 4 modes, Criticality: 7 modes) was chosen as an intensive management component.
Recently, the amount of maintenance is increasing due to the aging of power facilities, but the budget is constrained. Therefore, the importance of asset management that selects replacement priorities based on the failure probability and enhances investment effects is increasing. Because the number of distribution transformers is very large, the proportion of investment cost is very high. Therefore, it is important to select the investment priority by evaluating the reliable remaining life based on the failure probability. This paper evaluates the statistical expected life using the failure data of distribution transformers for the last 11 years and the current operation data. The hazard rate of distribution transformer and MV cable was compared with each other and the adequacy of early failure removal was reviewed and the statistical expected life corresponding to the cumulative failure probability B3% was calculated.
