  • This paper persents the measurement method using a spinning cylinder system for stream-ing electrification of transformer oil. The spinning cylinder system has a simple mechan-ical construction, and requires less oil com-pared to the other methods. Alse, the effects of various admixtures on the static electri-fication and properties of tranformer oil can be easily investigated. Experiments showed that addition of the BTA reduced the streaming electrification and the polarity of static electrification wasconver-ted to negative at 50 ∼ 70[ppm] of BTA

  • This paper describes the frequency characteristics and the number of pulse of ultrasonic signals due to partial discharge occurred at each electrode. The defects which could occur in a transformer were simulated by using needle-plane electrode, IEC(b) electrode and void electrode. As a result, the dominant frequency of ultrasonic signals generated by corona in oil and partial discharge in void was hardly changed regardless with the applied voltage, but in case of surface discharge in oil, its dominant frequency moved to low frequency with the applied voltage. The increasing rate of pulse number per second was high in order of the surface discharge in oil, the partial discharge in void, the corona in oil.

  • The analysis for furan compound has provided a complementary technique to dissolved gas analysis(DGA) for monitoring transformers when total concentration of CO and $CO_2$ dissolved in oil only has been evaluated the aging of insulating paper. But, the analysis of furanic compounds by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) has been important more than DGA recently. Because it has been known that furanic components in transformer oil have come only from the decomposition of insulating paper. Therefore we have manufactured accelerating aging cell which was aged during 60 hours at 100, 150, 180 and $200^{\circ}C$, respectively, for investigating the characteristics of cellulose paper by thermal using analysis for CO, $CO_2$ and furan compound.

  • The autotransformer currently used on the electric railway system is made of class A insulation material and uses the paper insulation method. As a power converter supplying power to the trolley wire, the autotransformer is one of critical equipment in the railway system. In the autotransformer, load irregularly changes and overload often occurs. These cause overheating of the autotransformer and facilitate deterioration of the autotransformer resulting in burnout accidents due to insulation breakdown. Also, the current autotransformer has poor insolation and short-circuit strength which often badly affect the service life of the transformer, and needs to improve its quality urgently. To overcome one of existing shortcomings of the mold transformer, manufacturers use epoxy resins that have superior flame retardancy to get rid of fro and explosion possibilities during accidents. Currently, new mold transformers are used in indoor distribution facilities with fire-fighting equipments. Coils molded in epoxy resins do not have their insulation performance compromised by humidity, dust, etc enabling easy inspection and maintenance. Comparing to the oil immersed transformer, the mold transformer does not have any concern about environmental pollutions by oil leak or replacement Therefore, to reduce breakdowns and improve reliability of the autotransformer, it is necessary to develop a new mold autotransformer with low loss suitable for our environment to suppress breakdowns of the autotransformer and improve the reliability. This study is about development of a low-loss mold autotransformer necessitated by reasons mentioned earlier.

  • This paper dealt with the radiated electromagnetic wave detection of partial discharge (PD) in oil for insulation diagnostics of oil-immersed transformers. Three types of electrode system were fabricated to simulate the insulation defects that could occur in oil-immersed transformers. Frequency components of radiated electromagnetic wave in oil was measured by broadband bi-conical antennas of 300 MHz~2 GHz and a spectrum analyzer of 9 kHz~3 GHz. Frequency component of electromagnetic waves from PD in oil were highly distributed at 500 MHz. From the result, a narrow-band monopole antenna with the center frequency of 500 MHz was fabricated. We could detect PD signal in insulation oil without an influence of external noise by a measurement system which consists of the prototype monopole antenna, a LNA (Low Noise Amplifier), an oscilloscope and a spectrum analyzer.

  • This paper deals with the effect of decomposition products which occur in breakdown of mineral oil, on the insulation characteristics of its oil. Breakdown tests in the oil were conducted by the proposed experimental methods under a quasi-uniform field and AC HV (60Hz). The breakdown voltage in the oil shows characteristics of dispersion from successive breakdowns and, it is found that there are three patterns of the decomposition products behavior at the process of breakdown progress in the oil. Finally, the breakdown voltage dispersion in the oil can be described in detail based on the behavior patterns of the decomposition products and its diffusion time.

  • In this paper, we measured leakage current that produced by static electrification at pressboard and insulating paper. We found that the leakage current increased as temperature increased, as oil velocity increased. The leakage current at pressboard is higher than that of insulating paper.

  • Insulated oil degradation produces charged by-products, such as acids and hydro-peroxides, which tend to reduce the insulating properties of the oil. In this study, UV-vis spectroscopy measurement technology is developed and experimentally compared with other measurement methods, such as the titration method and IR spectroscopy, to validate its ability to monitor the degradation of electrical insulating paper. The degradation characteristics of the insulating paper are appropriately represented through various types of measurement methods, such as the Tan (delta) method, $CO_2$ gas production measurement, the titration method, and IR spectroscopy. The results are demonstrated to be well comparable to a change in the fluorescence emission ratio (FER), which is defined as the shift in fluorescence intensity in the measured wavelength range, and also to the chromatic ratio, which is defined as a color shift to longer wavelength ranges. The results also show that, by using UV-vis spectroscopy, it is possible to detect the degradation of the insulating paper. This study suggests that UV-vis spectroscopy can be applied as an alternative to high-performance liquid chromatography, which is the internationally recognized measurement technology for cellulose paper degradation. The FER detector is also verified to be useful as an effective condition-monitoring device for power transformers.

This paper reports on the performance of a 22.9kV class three phase optical current/voltage metering scheme and three tariff metering system. This optoelectronic system was designed and developed to advance the state of the art in revenue metering. This paper deals with the characteristics of designed optical CPT (Current and Potential Transformer) and optoelectronic demand meter. The extensive field evaluation of the developed system with the existing oil filled transformer and solid state metering pair is undertaking. Upto now the operation of the optical revenue metering system under the field condition compares favorably with the existing system.

  • The transformer and the OF cable are cooled and insulated by insulating oils in their body. The insulating oil expands or contracts with the heat transfer according to the operating conditions of the electric facilities. So we install the $N_2$ gas tank connected with the insulating oil system to overcome the change. The change of the insulating oil volume for the operation temperature range must be calculated to decide the $N_2$ gas volume and to set the alarm point for safe operation. It is known that this change is proportional to the temperature change and to the insulating oil volume if the temperature change is small enough.[1][11] However this proportional formula has been accepted generally in the design of electric facilities for wide operation temperature range such as $40^{\circ}C{\sim}125^{\circ}C$. Hence, it makes large errors in calculation which car result in serious damage against safe operation of the electric facilities. This paper presents a improved method of calculating the accurate change of the insulating oil volume to insure the safe operation of electric facilities.
