This paper presents a novel integrated structure for a cascaded distribution static compensator (D-STATCOM) and distribution transformer for medium-voltage reactive power compensation. The cascaded multilevel converter is connected to a system via a group of special designed taps on the primary windings of the Dyn11 connection distribution transformer. The three-phase winding taps are symmetrically arranged and the connection point voltage can be decreased to half of the line-to-line voltage at most. Thus, the voltage stress for the D-STATCOM is reduced and a compromise between the voltage rating and the current rating can be achieved. The spare capacity of the distribution transformer can also be fully used. The working mechanism is explained in detail and a modified control strategy is proposed for reactive power compensation. Finally, both simulation and scaled-down prototype experimental results are provided to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed connection structure and control strategy.
It is well known that the degradation transformer oil is mainly effected to the failure of transformer. In this paper it is discussed the characteristics of the degradation sensor checking transformer oil condition in live line. The degadation sensor composed with base ring, electrodes and porous ceramic passed through the transformer oil and checked the transformer oil condition with sensor's leakage current. It is important to minimize the leakage current of base ring and connection parts. To investigate the leakage current of base ring and connection parts it is examined the characteristics of V-T-I and DC 2 KV and other examinations. It is verified that ionized transformer caused by the expansion of oil temperature increase in the leakage current of porous ceramic sensor. It is certificated that the leakage current of other parts of porous ceramic is very small (about 2 %) than the porous ceramic and it is confirmed that the leakage current in porous ceramic is changed sensitively according to the new oil(NO) and and the degradation oil(DO).

The study on power capacity increase of superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is one of the most important researches to apply a SFCL in the power system. To achieve this, we thought that the unbalanced quenching problem generated in series connection of superconducting units should be solved. In this paper, we investigated the quenching characteristics of superconducting units in the transformer-type SFCL with or without the neutral line between secondary windings and superconducting units. In case of transformer-type SFCL without neutral line, the connection structure of superconducting units is identical to that of the resistive-type SFCL connected in series. Therefore, the unbalanced quenching was occurred by difference of critical current between superconducting units. However, in case of transformer-type SFCL with neutral line, the superconducting units with different critical current were simultaneously quenched. It was because the currents induced by secondary winding were separately flowed through the superconducting units. By these results, we confirmed that the resistances and consumption powers of the superconducting units were equally generated.
The study analyzed problems by iron core structure of the three phased transformer on asymmetric three phase lines, which included line disconnections, ground faults, COS OFF, and unbalanced loads on the power distribution system. In particular, by analyzing PT combustion cases within the MOF, the study was able to analyze the combustion cause of the core-type transformer and its effect on the system, conduct simulations and practice demonstrations on the characteristics for each iron core structure of the three phase transformer using PSCAD/EMTDC, and suggest measures to prevent the combustion of the core-type transformer.
In this paper, the electrical characteristics of the contactless transformer is presented using the conventional coupled inductor theory. Compared with the conventional transformer, the contactless transformer has a large airgap, long primary wire and multi-secondary wire. As such, the contactless transformer has a large leakage inductance, small magnetizing inductance and poor coupling coefficient. Therefore, large magnetizing currents flow through the entire primary system due to small magnetizing inductance, resulting in low overall system efficiency. In high power applications, the contactless transformer is so bulky and heavy that it needs to be split by some light and small transformers. So, the contactless transformer needs several small transformer modules that are connected in series or parallel to transfer the primary power to the secondary one. This paper shows the analysis and measurement results of each contactless transformer module and comparison results between the series- and parallel-connection of the contactless transformer. The results are verified on the simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 30kW experimental prototype.
In this paper, safety certification products and safety condition of small transformer is analyzed in industries field and educational facilities. In transformer of 50places, absolute majority is step down transformer to measure of instrument. Most transformers were below 5kVA and 1~3kVA capacity was the mainstream. In industries field, 5 transformers were found without safety certification according to the Electrical Appliances Safety Control Act as cheap product prefer and lack of safety consciousness. Mark & number, voltage, date of manufacture of safety certification must show item of certification. However date of manufacture showed in product of 18%, 9places. As result of thermal imaging camera, running temperature of transformer was showed in below of target temperature. However as a narrow space of transformer and wall, power cable was touched on a ventilating flue in transformer. It was simple carelessness case that surface fouling and temperature ageing of transformer accelerate. Power poor connection, neglect of transformer in production equipment, fall damage by setup incongruity and ground omission were found in case of illogicality item of transformer.
In past, transformer connection study was concentrated on efficiency improvement and life time broadening. But environmental side began to become important recently. In existing, quick transaction of mineral oil used to insulation oil of transformer is possibility to be difficult and causes environmental pollution in case of was outpoured and there is worry of fire occurrence. Accordingly, nonflammable performance becomes many interest in excellent vegetable oil because ignition point is high than mineral oil and environment friendly material. But, vegetable oil is cooling of transformer and insulation problem of insulating paper for cause of insulation oil special quality. Therefore, in this paper, special quality of vegetable oil that there are being a lot of mineral oil and the latest interest examined about problem and consideration item to be solved to analyzed comparison and applies vegetable oil to transformer for electric power.
Current differential protection relaying with second harmonic restraint is the main protection for large capacity power transformer. PSCAD simulation program is widely used for modeling of dynamic varying transients phenomena. This paper deals with a power transformer model and transients analysis using PSCAD software to develop IED for power transformer. Simulation was carried out using a three phase 40MVA, 154/22.9kV, 60Hz, two-winding transformer with Y-Y connection used in actual fields. The paper analyzed transformer magnetizing inrush, external fault, and internal fault conditions with this model in the time domain. In addition, we performed an analysis in the frequency domain using FFT during several conditions.
This paper analyses magnetic flux saturation of matching transformer considering characteristic of dynamic voltage restorer(DVR) system to solve voltage sags which are considered the dominant disturbances affecting power quality. This DVR consist of PWM inverter to inject arbitrary voltage, LC low pass filter and matching transformer for isolation and grid connection. However, the matching transformer has an excess of inrush current by magnetic flux saturation in the core of transformer. Due to this inrush current, the rating of matching transformers is double for needed nominal rating for protection of DVR. Therefore, in this paper, an advanced modeling method of magnetic flux saturation is used to analyze a magnitude and characteristic of magnetizing current. Simulation and experimental results considering characteristic of DVR system are provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed analysis method.
