  • Transformation optics methodology provides a new pathway for designing novel devices. It is based on changing a material’s permittivity and permeability. A design for changing the appearance of an object by transformation optics methodology is proposed here. Through a certain transformation, the relations of the metric spaces and the calculation of the material parameters are derived, and the aim of changing the apparent size of an object can be realized. Full wave simulations are performed to validate the proposed device’s performance. It is possible to think that the methodology will improve the flexibility of designing interesting applications in microwave and optical regimes.

  • We explain the basic principle of transformation optics, and introduce several design techniques for transformation cavities that can maintain the characteristics of whispering gallery modes (WGMs) even if the cavity is strongly deformed from a circular shape. As a method of obtaining various transformation cavities under a specific conformal mapping, we suggest a method of parallel movement of the initial cavity domain, and a method of rotating the ellipse as a cavity domain. The internal wave pattern and the far-field output characteristics of several designed resonant modes are numerically calculated. From these results, it is confirmed that a variety of GRIN resonators are possible for a given conformal coordinate transformation.

  • In this paper we present an alternative approach to addressing the problem of designing cloaks for radar targets, which have been dealt with in the past by using the transformation optics (TO) algorithm. The present design utilizes realistic materials, which can be fabricated in the laboratory, and are wideband as well as relatively insensitive to polarization and incident angle of the incoming wave. The design strategy, presented herein, circumvents the need to use metamaterials for cloak designs that are inherently narrowband, dispersive and highly sensitive to polarization and incident angle. A new interpretation of the TO algorithm is presented and is employed for the design of radar cross section-reducing absorbers for arbitrary targets, and not just for canonical shapes, e.g., cylinders. The topic of performance enhancement of the absorbers by using graphene materials and embedded frequency structure surfaces is briefly mentioned. The design procedure for planar absorbing covers is presented and their performance as wrappers of general objects is discussed. A number of test cases are included as examples to illustrate the application of the proposed design methodology, which is a modification of the classical TO paradigm.

  • This paper reports the study of the line-beam optical system of the laser lift-off (LLO) equipment used in the OLED manufacturing process. To obtain both a long process depth and a narrow width of the line beam, even with the poor M2 value of the laser source, the research is focused on the optical system, including the beam transformation unit (BTU). We also propose optical configurations for the super-Gaussian distribution and the fiber-based BTU for the flat-top distribution.

  • Enlarging the horizontal viewing angle is an important feature of integral imaging monitors. Thus far, the horizontal viewing angle has been enlarged in different ways, such as by changing the size of the elemental images or by tilting the lens array in the capture and reconstruction stages. However, these methods are limited by the microlenses used in the capture stage and by the fact that the images obtained cannot be easily projected into different displays. In this study, we upgrade our previously reported method, called SPOC 2.0. In particular, our new approach, which can be called SPOC 2.1, enlarges the viewing angle by increasing the density of the elemental images in the horizontal direction and by an appropriate application of our transformation and reshape algorithm. To illustrate our approach, we have calculated some high-viewing angle elemental images and displayed them on an integral imaging monitor.

  • The conventional study on the laser surface transformation hardening has been carried out with a beam of the specified shape and uniform power-intensity distribution in order to ensure the uniformity of the hardening depth. Two types of beams - the circular gaussian beam and rectangular beam of the uniform power-intensity distribution were used in this study. we were supposed to optimize the process parameters and to compare the hardening results with two optics respectively. As a result, the hardness distribution of the hardened zone was similar in both cases and the hardened phase by the rectangular beam was denser than that by the circular gaussian beam.

  • Synthesized 3-D CGH of a general three dimensional object is obtained by using a new 3-D coordinates transformation technique. A CCD camera is used to record several projected images of the 3-D object from different viewing angles. The recorded data are numerically calculated and processed to yield two-dimensional complex functions, which are then encoded fer the final synthesized 3-D CGH.

  • The reflectance spectrum of optical films thicker than a few microns shows an intensity oscillation due to interference. Since the spectral period of the oscillation is inversely related to film thickness, the thickness of an optical film can be determined from the spectral frequency of the oscillation. For rapid data processing, the spectral frequency is obtained by use of a Fast Fourier Transformation technique. The conventional method of applying a Fast Fourier Transformation to the reflectance spectrum versus photon energy is modified so as to clear the ambiguity in choosing the proper effective refractive index value and to prevent the broadening of the Fourier transformed peak due to the refractive index dispersion. This technique of modified Fast Fourier Transformation is suggested by the authors for the first time to their knowledge. From the analysis of the calculated reflectance spectrum of a 30-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$-thick dielectric film. it is shown to improve the accuracy in determining film thickness by a great amount. The improved accuracy of the modified Fast Fourier Transformation is also confirmed from the analysis of the reflectance spectra of a sample with 80-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$-thick cover layer and 13-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$-thick spacer layer on a PC substrate.

  • The eye movement of the eyeball's center of a rotation can represent with the rotation matrix $R_x$, $R_y$, $R_z$ due to a coordinate axis rotation transformation of Cartesian coordinate, and describes of an abduction, an adduction, an elevation, a depression, an intorsion, an extorsion in principle rotation six forms of the eye. The eye movement from primary eye position to tertiary eye position could be composed with the rotation matrix combination, and by the primary rotation of six and the secondary rotation of eight, could be represented with the extrocular muscle of six. The position of the cornea vertex point or pupil point due to the eye movement can describe to transform the rotation matrix of the cartesian coordinate to spherical coordinate$(r,{\theta},{\phi})$.

  • The transformation of the Italian retailing has permitted, in the last ten years, a quick modification of the strategic groups' weight at a distributive level. Such change regards the redesign of the competitive assets that sees as protagonist both the main foreign big multiple chains and the Italian retailing, characterized by small dependent enterprises. The analysis is focused on the solutions that independent retailers are adopting in order to strengthen their competitive ability in relation to the aforementioned prospective entrance of foreign distributors in the domestic market. In particular, the most commonly adopted strategic alternative are analysed, in an attempt to characterize the development models that can emerge. The paper presents a case of possible successful solution adopted by some independent retailers for a competitiveness recovery without sacrificing the enterprise's property and autonomy.
