An experimental investigation on heat transfer characteristics of two-dimensional heated blocks using a confined impinging slot jet has been performed. The effect of jet Reynolds number(Re=3900, 5800, 9700), streamwise block spacing(p/w=0.5, 1, 1.5) and dimensionless nozzle to block distance(H/B=1, 2, 4, 6) have been examined with five isothermally heated blocks. With the measurement of jet mean velocity and turbulence intensity distributions at nozzle exit, initially turbulent regimes, are classified. To clarify local heat transfer characteristics, naphthalene sublimation technique as used. The maximum Nusselt number at the stagnation point for the jet Reynolds number is occurred at H/B=4. Besides, the local and a average heat transfer of heated blocks increase with decreasing streamwise block spacing and increasing jet Reynolds number.
The heat transfer phenomenon was investigated in this study when a single round water jet with the low velocity and against the direction of gravity flows to the downward facing Isothermal of definite thickness circular plate. Experimental investigation is performed for a single round jet diameter 4mm, 6mm, and 8mm with the jet velocity 2.4m/s and jet fluid temperature of $24^{\circ}C$, varied the ratio of nozzle clearance/nozzle diameter (H/D)1, 2, 3, 6, and 8, on circular plate isothermal condition with $85^{\circ}C$. The local convection heat transfer coefficient distributions are analyzed based on the visualization of jet flow field. The effects of the diameter of Nozzle, the ratio of H/D and the ratio of nozzle diameter/circular plate diameter on heat transfer phenomenon are investigated. As a results of experiment is obtained correlation equation, $Nu_r=3.18Re_r^{0.55}Pr_r^{0.4}$.
This paper presents the promotion of heat transfer through the use of wire-mesh screens. To improve heat transfer in an impingement water system, the wire-mesh screens are installed between the nozzle-to-heater surfaces. When the wire-mesh screens are not employed, this report exhibits the maximum heat transfer and the secondary maximum value at the stagnation point. But in case of using the wire-mesh screens, the transfer coefficient value of maximum heat exists at the stagnation point, and the second maximum value doesn't occur. Therefore, the heat transfer is more improved than 4~6 times that of the mean Nusselt numbers of simple water jet system, Also, within the region presented in this study, the heat transfer was promoted by using the wire-mesh screens at the stagnation point ; thus, the heat transfer was more increased than 6-7. 5 times that of simple water jet system.
An experimental study of jet flow and heat transfer has been carried out for the jet impingement cooling on a semi-circular concave surface. For the jet impingement on the concave surface, three different regions-free jet region, stagnation region, and wall jet flow region-exist, and the distributions of mean velocity and fluctuating velocity for each region have been measured by Laser Doppler Velocimeter. Of particular interests are the effects of jet Reynolds number, the distance between the nozzle exit and cooling surface apex, and the distance from the stagnation point in the circumferential direction. The resulting characteristics of heat transfer at the stagnation point and the variation of heat transfer along the circumferential direction including the existence of secondary peak have been explained in conjunction with measured impinge jet flow.
The effect of triangular tabs attached at the perimeter of jet nozzle on heat transfer enhancement was investigated experimentally. The modified flow structure was visualized using a smoke-wire method. Four different types of jet nozzle having 0, 4, 6 and 8 tabs were tested at jet Reynolds number Re=15,000 to investigate the effect of tabs on the variation of heat transfer rate. The local and average Nusselt numbers are increased with increasing the number of tabs. At nozzle-to-plate distance of L/D=4, the average Nusselt number was increased about 9.9% at Re=15,000 in the impingement region for the case of 8 tabs attachment. As the nozzle-to-plate distance increases, however, the heat transfer enhancement effect of triangular tabs is reduced. For the case of 4 tabs, the heat transfer enhancement is not so distinctive at L/D=8. As the protrusion depth of tabs into the jet flow increases, the heat transfer rate is also enhanced when the nozzle-to-plate distance is smaller than L/D=6.
Axisymmetric circular water jet impinges against rectangular heated surface with uniform hear flux and wire-mesh screens are set up in the nozzle-to-heater space to augment heat transfer. In the free jet region to be used them, pressure drop and intensive turbulence flow was brought up. When water jet system is not used wire-mesh screens, maximum heat transfer appears in the stagnation point and the secondary maximum appears X/D=4 but it disappears when they are is used. In the low velocity(Vo<6.0m/s), coarse mesh-screen enhanced heat transfer but fine mesh-screens inpeded heat transfer. In the high velocity(Vo>6m/s), all of them enhanced heat transfer. Average Nusselt number of experimental system to be used wire-mesh screens was promoted $4{\sim}6$times than that of simple water jet system. The stagnation heat transfer of experimental system to be used wire-mesh screens was augmented 6times that of simple water jet system.
An experimental study is conducted to investigate the flow and heat transfer characteristics of a multi-tube inserted impinging jet. Four different multi-tube devices are tested for various nozzle-to-plate distance. Flow visualization by smoke-wire method and velocity measurements using a hot-wire anemometer are applied to analyze the flow characteristics of the multi-tube insert impinging jet. The local heat transfer coefficients of the multi-tube inserted impinging jet on the impingement surface are measured and the results are compared to those of the conventional jet. In multi-tube inserted system the multi-tube length plays an important role in the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the jet flow. With multi-tube insert of I3d4 and I6d4 which has relatively longer tube length than the multi-tube-exit of I3d1 and I6d1, the flow maintains its increased velocity far downstream due to interaction between adjacent flows. For the small H/D of 4, the local heat transfer coefficients of multi-tube inserted impinging jet are much higher than those of the conventional jet because the flow has higher velocity and turbulent intensity by the use of the multi-tube device. At large gap distance of H/D=12, also higher heat transfer rates are obtained by installing multi-tube insert except multi-tube insert of I3d1.
The Paper studies the flow and heat transfer characteristics to a jet impinging at different oblique angles, to a plane surface by numerical methods. The flowfield and heat transfer rate associated with the oblique Impingement of an axisymmetric jet are of interest as a result of its presence in numerous technological Problems. For the computation of heat transfer rate, the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ and ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}-\bar {{\upsilon}'^ 2}$ turbulent model were adapted. The accuracy of the numerical calculations was compared with various experimental data reported in the literature. ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}-\bar {{\upsilon}'^ 2}$ model showed better agreement with experimental data than standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model in prediction of the turbulent intensity and the heat transfer rate. In the case of computation of flowfield, the study carries on the ${\alpha}=45$ deg, h/D=4.95. The jet Reynolds number based on the nozzle diameter(D), was 48,000. For the computation of heat transfer rate, the Re=20,000, the jet orifice-to-plate spacings(L/D) are 4, 6 and 10, and the angle between the axis of the jet orifice and the plate surface is set at 30, 45, 60, or 90 deg. For the smaller spacings, the near-peak Nusselt numbers are not significantly effected by the initial decreases in the Jet angle. The overall shape of the local Nusselt number x-axis profile is influenced by both the jet orifice-to-plate spacing and the jet angle.
The experimental study on flow and heat transfer characteristics was conducted to investigate and to compare the performance of swirl jet by a twisted tape as a swirl generator with the performance of impinging single circular jet in fully developed flow tube. The effects of jet Reynolds number(Re=8700, 13800, 20000, 26500), dimensionless distance of nozzle-to-plate(H/d=2, 4, 6, 8) and swirl ratio(S=0.11, 0.23, 0.30) of the jet on the local and average Nusselt number have been examined. Measurements of local heat transfer rate and flow patterns on the jet impinging plate were used naphthalene sublimation technique and flow visualization technique respectively. Mean velocity and turbulence intensity of the jet along the centerline were measured. With a twisted tape in the nozzle exit, average Nusselt number at the around area of stagnation point were higher than those without the twisted tape at H/d=2, 4 and with the increase of Reynolds number. With a twisted tape in the nozzle, in the case of H/d=2, Re=26500 and S=0.11, maximum local Nusselt number at the region of y/d=0 and x/d=0.44 was obtained.
Experimental measurements of the heat transfer and heat flux to a jet impinging on a heated surface were obtained in the nucleate boiling regimes. Tes-variables were jet at velocity and aspect ratio ($b/\ell$) of the heated surface. A slope of nucleate boiling curve increased with increasing the aspect ratio of the heated surface, namely approaching a rectangular square, and it is shown that surface tension has an important role for the onset of nucleate boiling heat transfer. A generalized correlation of the jet nucleate boiling heat transfer. A generalized correlation of the jet nucleate boiling heat transfer was found using a pi theorem.
