  • Swaging technique is frequently used to stiffen thin panels for reducing the vibration levels of the machine or vehicle structure. Because the internal constraints imposed by swages can distort the mode shapes of panels, they affect the sound radiation characteristics. In this paper, the radiated sound field generated by the idealized and baffled finite swaged panel is studied, in which the curved swage section is modeled as an incomplete cylindrical shell. The modal radiation efficiencies are predicted using the transfer matrix concept and compared with those of flat panels. It is observed that the radiation efficiencies of the swaged vibrational modes can increase slightly for frequencies below the critical frequency, while increase of radiation efficiency depends on the mode shapes and other related structural parameters.

  • To present the design direction of the thermoelectric module (TEM) refrigerator, analysis of the effect of the design parameters on the energy efficiency and performance of the refrigerator is performed. The design parameters considered are the cooling capacity of the TEM and the heat transfer performance of the heating and cooling surface of the TEM. The heat transfer performance is the most effective design parameter for improving cooling power. The smaller ΔT and cooling capacity of the TEM make the higher efficiency of the refrigerator.

  • Simple equivalent circuit model is developed for wireless energy transfer system via coupled magnetic resonances and practical design method is also provided. Node equations for the resonance system are built with the method expanding transformer's equations and the optimum distances of coils in the system is derived analytically for optimum coupling coefficients for high transfer efficiency. Moreover, to calculate the frequency characteristics for a lossy system the equivalent model is established at an electric design automation tool. The model parameters of the actual system are extracted and the results of modeling are compared with the measurement. Through the developed model, we can understand the principles that the system shows higher efficiency than conventional magnetic coupling systems and impedance matching is important to achieve high efficiency.

  • Heat transfer coefficient and fin efficiency of a heat exchanger dispersed in the microelement of control volume were predicted with various flow patterns, conditions and material properties. A computational program was developed by using the method of efficiency-NTU(Number of transfer unit). The modelling was applied to heat exchangers, also was integrated in power pack cooling system in an armored vehicle. The compatibility and the generality were proved by comparing the prediction values with the test results. The developed program may be useful for the design of the cooling system in an armored vehicle.

  • The present paper investigates the heat transfer characteristics in a cylinder packed with porous medium of solid spheres for various parameters such as mass flow rate, sphere diameter, length of the porous medium, and gas temperatures. Pressures and temperatures at the inlet and outlet regions were measured by using static pressure gages and R-type thermocouples. The modified relationship based on the Ergun equation is suggested for the estimation of pressure drops. In addition, the useful empirical correlation for thermal efficiency is obtained in the current study. Thermal efficiency is expressed in terms of non-dimensional time, sphere diameter, porosity, and pressure drops. It is also found that the pressure drop through the cylinder becomes larger as the gas temperature does higher at the inlet region, whereas it substantially decreases when the inlet flow rate decreases.

  • A computer simulation program of a high efficiency condensing heat exchanger is developed. The flue gas flows outside bare tube bundles both in strong cross flow and in weak counter flow and the cooling water inside the tubes. Condensing heat exchangers achieve high efficiency by reducing flue-gas temperatures to a level at which most of the water vapor in the flue gas is condensed and the latent heat associated with phase change of the water is recovered. The computer model has been verified by comparison with measured data. To verify the model, heat transfer coefficient was adjusted, along with the mass transfer diffusion coefficient and pressure drop coefficient, to achieve agreement between predicted and measured data. The efficiencies of heat exchanger increase 2.3 ~ 8.1% by condensations of 6.3 ~ 62.6% of the water vapor in the flue gas.

  • An experimental study has been carried out for the heat transfer and particle deposition during the Outside Vapor Deposition process. The surface temperatures of deposited layers, and the rates, efficiencies and porosities of particle deposition were measured. It is shown that the axial variation of the surface temperature can be assumed to be quasi-steady and that as the traversing speed of burner is increased, the deposition rate, efficiency and porosity increase due to the decreased surface temperature. As the flow rate of the chemicals is increased, both the thickness of deposition layers and the surface temperature increase. Deposition rate also increases, however, deposition efficiency decreases for tests done. Later passes in early deposition stage result in higher surface temperatures due to increased thickness of porous deposited layers, which cause the deposition rate, efficiency, and porosity to decrease.

  • This study investigates the air leakage and heat transfer characteristics of a rotary-type air-to-air heat exchanger with a fiber polyester matrix. The leakage airflow rate is measured using a tracer gas method for various ventilation rates and rotational speeds of the matrix wheel. A correlation equation for air leakage is obtained by combining the pressure leakage and the carryover leakage. The pressure leakage is observed to be a function of ventilation airflow rate only, and the carryover leakage is found to be a linear function of rotational speed. The real efficiency of the heat exchanger can be obtained from its apparent efficiencies by taking into account the air leakage ratio. As the ventilation rate increases, the heat recovery efficiency decreases. As the rotational speed of the matrix increases, the efficiency increases initially but reaches a constant value for the rotational speeds over 10 rpm.

  • In this paper, we intend to study the energy efficiency (EE) optimization for a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT)-based distributed antenna system (DAS). Firstly, a DAS-SWIPT model is formulated, whose goal is to maximize the EE of the system. Next, we propose an optimal resource allocation method by means of the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker condition as well as an ergodic method. Considering the complexity of the ergodic method, a suboptimal scheme with lower complexity is proposed by using an antenna selection scheme. Numerical results illustrate that our suboptimal method is able to achieve satisfactory performance of EE similar to an optimal one while reducing the calculation complexity.

  • Recently, several efforts have been made to improve the thermal efficiency of a refrigerant compressor. In this study, we attempted to improve energy efficiency ratio (EER) performance by reducing the superheat of the linear compressor. To this end, heat generated inside the compressor must be effectively dissipated. Therefore, heat dissipation was improved by processing ribs in the gap-flow region generated owing to the vibration of the compressor body. The results showed that the convective heat transfer coefficient becomes significantly high when ribs are used, increasing the heat dissipation rate. This helps improve EER by reducing the superheat of the compressor.
