  • For MHz-class high frequency inverter in wireless power transfer applications, the voltage/current surges can be occurred in power stage when driving on the inverter. And also, the high-frequency oscillations can be produced at a high switching frequency due to the parasitic elements. The voltage and current stresses of the switching devices lead to the switching losses. The efficiency of the high frequency inverter will be reduced. And the inverter circuit with the sudden voltage and current fluctuations also generates the noise such as the EMI. Zero voltage, zero current switching technique can be used to reduce the switching loss and the noise. The high power density and high efficiency can be obtained. In this paper, the high-frequency inverter for short-range wireless power transfer applications was discussed. The feasible inverter circuit is analyzed in the circuit operating characteristics and the results are verified by the simulation.

  • The trend of international concerns on environmental conservation and domestic demand of ambient air quality improvement, specially on sulfur dioxide level has resulted in the establishment of mid-term strategy of environmental improvement and stepwise strengthening of emission regulations in this decade in Korea. Development of flue gas desulfurization(FGD) process is becoming an essential task to be accomplished especially for the power plants and large industrial facilities. This study is an initial stage researc focusing on the mass transfer principles in wet type FGD process and the effects of operating variables of a jet bubbling scrubber utilizing limestone slurry on sulfur dioxide removal efficiency. Experimental results showed this type of scrubbing system has some advantages in terms of mass transfer mechanism and removal efficiency. More rigorous research is needed for the reaction system and the comparison with existing FGD processess for the possible development of a process which is compatative in view of installation cost and treatment of by-products.

  • We report the efficient red light-emitting diodes based on the fluorescent dye 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-i-propyl-6-(1,1,7,7-tetramethyljulolidyl-9-enyl)-4H-pyran (DCJTI) and 5,6,11,12-tetraphenyl naphthacene (rubrene) codoped in the tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum $(Alq_3)$. Luminance efficiency of 2.2 cd/A with a Commission International De L'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinate of x, y = (0.640, 0:350) are achieved at the driving current density of $20\;mA/cm^2$. Adding the rubrene to the DCJTI in tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum $(Alq_3)$, the red color purity and luminance efficiency improved comparing to the DCJTI only doped devices because the rubrene molecules assist the polarization effect of DCJTI by molecular interaction and enhance the energy transfer from $(Alq_3)$ to DCJTI.

  • As wireless power transfer (WPT) technologies emerge in a wide range of applications including public transportation, many expect that applying the technology to the current railway systems will bring positive effects to current railway systems. In this paper, we introduce design methodology of a WPT system for railway application. Fundamental principles of magnetic fields and a WPT circuit are first analyzed, and advantages and efficiency of a possible train system are discussed. It then examines other significant factors such as performance requirements and EMC criteria to design a wireless train system.

  • The spin transfer torque efficiency was determined experimentally by observing the current-driven domainwall depinning of Pt/CoFe/Pt nanowires with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The depinning time was exponentially proportional to the applied magnetic field, and was well explained by the Neel-Brown formula. The depinning time and threshold magnetic field were varied considerably by injecting current into the nanowire. The spin transfer torque efficiency was estimated to be $(7.2{\pm}0.9){\times}10^{-15}Tm^2$/A from the linear dependence of the threshold current density with respect to the applied magnetic field.

  • Alternative analytic expressions for the mutual inductance ($L_m$) and coupling coefficient (k) between circular loops are presented using more familiar and convenient expressions that represent the property of reciprocity clearly. In particular, the coupling coefficients are expressed in terms of structural dimensions normalized to a geometric mean of radii of two loops. Based on the presented expressions, various aspects of the mutual inductances and coupling coefficients, including the regions of positive, zero, and negative value, are examined with respect to their impacts on the efficiency of wireless power transmission.

  • This paper presents a new approach regarding thermal characteristics associated with a design of the high efficiency motor. The adjoint variable design sensitivity equations for both electromagnetics with respect to permeability and heat transfer considering conduction and convection terms are derived using the continuum method. For multi-objective topology optimization, FEA is validated in terms of electromagnetics and heat transfer by experiments. The proposed method is applied to a single-phase induction motor of the scroll compressor in order to control the direction of heat flow by maximizing/minimizing the temperature of the target area while maintaining the efficiency.

  • One of the major limitations in using adenoviral vector for gene therapy is inefficient infection of host cells. The presence of coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor (CAR) and ${\alpha}$-integrin on cell surfaces is required for efficient adenovirus infection. In this study, we investigated the effect of trichostatin A, a histone deacetylase inhibitor, on transfection efficiency after transduction of adenovirus mediated p16$\^$INK4a/ gene transfer. In our previous study, p16$\^$INK4a/ tumor suppressor gene transfer in the non-small cell lung cancer cells (A549 cells) by transduction of recombinant adenovirus (Ad5CMV-p16) resulted in significant inhibition of cancer cell proliferation. • This article presents an investigation of the effects on a grounding system of wireless power transfer (WPT) when transmitting over relatively far distances, that is, up to 1.25 m. Conventional two-coil WPT systems are sufficiently commercialized in strong coupling range, but it is important to accomplish the long-range WPT in weak coupling range for further various applications. This system depends on the coupling effect between the two coils that the grounds of the transmitting and receiving coils should be completely separated. However, when evaluating the performance of two-coil systems with the instrument consisting of two ports and one common ground, undesirable problems occur in weak coupling ranges, for example, obtaining disagreeable transmission efficiency and degrading system stability/reliability. We investigate the problems of the leakage power from common ground systems and provide a practical solution to obtain a reliable WPT system by using an isolation transformer. The usefulness of this approach is that it is possible to achieve the stability of the system with relatively far transmitting distances and to determine the exact transmission efficiency.

  • Swarm has recently become a critical component of offensive and defensive systems. Multi-agent reinforcement learning(MARL) empowers swarm systems to handle a wide range of scenarios. However, the main challenge lies in MARL's scalability issue - as the number of agents increases, the performance of the learning decreases. In this study, transfer learning is applied to advanced MARL algorithm to resolve the scalability issue. Validation results show that the training efficiency has significantly improved, reducing computational time by 31 %.
