Power Transmission Determined by the Mutual Impedance and the Transducer Power Gain in the Near Field Region

  • This paper describes the role of mutual impedance and the transducer power gain which comes from key parameters to determine the amount of wireless power especially in a near-field environment. These two key parameters are applied to the two configurations; one is a dipole-dipole, and the other is a dipole-metal plate-loop configuration. Discussions are given on the achievable maximum power transfer between the sender and the receiver affected by the matching and the pass blockage.

  • A wireless power transfer (WPT) system is generally designed with the optimum source and load impedance in order to achieve the maximum power transfer efficiency (PTE) at a specific coupling coefficient. Empirically or intuitively, however, it is well known that a high PTE can be attained by adjusting either the source or load impedance. In this paper, we estimate the maximum achievable PTE of WPT systems with the given load impedance, and propose the condition of source impedance for the maximum PTE. This condition can be reciprocally applied to the load impedance of a WPT system with the given source impedance. First, we review the transducer power gain of a two-port network as the PTE of the WPT system. Next, we derive two candidate conditions, the critical coupling and the optimum conditions, from the transducer power gain. Finally, we compare the two conditions carefully, and the results therefore indicate that the optimum condition is more suitable for a highly efficient WPT system with a given load impedance.

  • An intrinsic small signal equivalent circuit model of Cylindrical/Surrounded gate MOSFET is proposed. Admittance parameters of the device are extracted from circuit analysis and intrinsic circuit elements are presented in terms of real and imaginary parts of the admittance parameters. S parameters are then evaluated and justified with the simulated data extracted from 3D device simulation.

  • The broadband microwave amplifier in the 3~4GHz frequency range has been designed by using potentially unstable GaAs FET. Input matching network is designed by 14dB available power gain circles which are in the stable region. In order to obtain maximu, transducer power gain, output matching network which is in the stable region can be designed using Fano's bandpass matching network. The measured values of transducer power gain, $S_11$and $S_22$ show close agreements with the theoretical valuse.

  • Recently, side scan sonar system has been developed and operated to survey cable laying, sunken bodies, geometry of sea bottom and so on. It uses the acoustic signals, which are emitted from two transducer arrays, left and right sides, to get geometric information of the specified area. This system consists of transceiver board, towed body, deck unit and GPS receiver. The transceiver board, nested in a watertight canister, controls the transmitting and receiving of the acoustic pulses from transducer arrays. After receiving the scattered signals, it processes BP(Band Pass) filtering, AGC(Automatic Gain Control), TVG(Time Varying Gain) and Heterodyne. The deck init has the signal processing part, A/D converter, power supplier, and real-time monitoring part. The towed body has been designed to satisfy the optimal hydrodynamic behavior during towing, In this paper, brief introductions on the design theory of transceiving part and some results from the field which have been operated recently will be introduced.

  • GaAs power MESFETs with 1 .mu.m gate length and an undoped GaAs surface layer on the doped GaAs channel are fabricated using IR(image reversal) and air-birdge processes. And then We have measured and calculated DC and RF characteristics. We have obtained saturation current 107-500 mA (197-255 mA/mm), maximum linear RF output power 111-518.8 mW (204-270 mW/mm), current gain cut-off frequency 7-10 GHz, maximum unilateral transducer power gain 5.7-12.7, and power added efficiencies 37.9-41.2 % from the devices with gate width 0.45-2.2 mm, at 6 GHz.

Study on Two-Coil and Four-Coil Wireless Power Transfer Systems Using Z-Parameter Approach

  • A wireless power transfer (WPT) system is usually classified as being of either a two-coil or four-coil type. It is known that two-coil WPT systems are suitable for short-range transmissions, whereas four-coil WPT systems are suitable for mid-range transmissions. However, this paper reveals that the two aforementioned types of WPT system are alike in terms of their performance and characteristics, differing only when it comes to their matching-network configurations. In this paper, we first find the optimum load and source conditions using Z-parameters. Then, we estimate the maximum power transfer efficiency under the optimum load and source conditions, and we describe how to configure the matching networks pertaining to both types of WPT system for the given optimum load and source conditions. The two types of WPT system show the same performance with respect to the coupling coefficient and load impedance. Further, they also demonstrate an identical performance in the two cases considered in this paper, that is, a strong-coupled case and a weak-coupled case.

  • Flow phantom with stenosis was manufactured using an auto-injector to obtain angiostenotic flow information and quality assurance (QA) for ultrasound diagnostic instrumentation. Effectiveness of manufactured flow phantom with stenosis was investigated with power Doppler that was known to have diagnostic efficiency for angiostenosis. The flow phantom with stenosis was manufactured to 70% stenosis with 8 mm and 2.4 mm silicon tube, and silicone tube was covered with gelatin that has acoustic characteristics similar to soft tissue. When the linear transducer was used for measurement, the estimated diameter of normal vessel was measured lower than that of normal value, and the estimated diameter of stenosed vessel was measured higher than that of normal value. The measured parameters were not affected except for the radical conditions such as gain of 60%, PRF of 3000 Hz, use of maximal filter or angle. In addition, when the convex transducer was used for measurement, measurement parameters were affected by gain, PRF, filter, and angle. Therefore it is expected that flow phantom with stenosis manufactured with an auto-injector will be utilized effectively for QA of angiostenotic diagnosis.

  • The purpose of this research was to discuss the system that operated Ultra sonic transducer of Pelzo electric ceramics type. The structure of controller was made up of digital signal part drive and feedback circuit, and half bridge inverter. Digital signal part was designed to gain the stable oscillation frequency by making consideration of pointed resonance bandwidth. We tried to control inverter by forward feedback condition because BLT based on the flexibility of elements such as temperature and load condition. In addition, transducer was operated as inverter in order to enhance its power efficiency. In this experiment, output voltage waveform and current waveform have been observed by using BLT.
