  • The correlations for cross-flow have not been well established, because of the complexity of breakup and atomization mechanism. A study was performed to investigate the characteristics of spray behaviour of liquid jet in the bag breakup regime injected into low-speed cross-flow with the pressure single-hole nozzle. The shadow-graphy method was used for the cross-flow jet visualization. The experimental variables of liquid jet were nozzle diameter $(0.3mm{\sim}1.0mm)$, injection pressure $(50kPa{\sim}150kPa)$, and the velocity of cross-flow $(27m/s{\sim}42m/s)$. The highest penetration trajectories of liquid jet are governed by the momentum ratio $({\rho}_{\iota}U_{\iota}^2/{\rho}_aU_{cross}^2)$ rather than the Weber number and the new empirical equations of the highest penetration trajectory and breakup point at low-speed corss-flow are established.

  • Three-dimensional trajectory of fluid particle is simulated by a particle motion, which is able to examine the influences of changes in the several parameters. To calculate the trajectory of a particle, the Runge-Kutta method was utilized. The use of a projectile of particles for the trajectory of liquid jet has been shown to be useful to estimate the influence of different operating parameters such as best particle diameter, density of liquid body, initial take-off velocity, wind velocity, cross wind velocity, take-off angle, and base angle for a released flow from the nozzle. The results give the trajectories of various types of particle of body and at different elevations, base angles, wind velocities and densities of liquid body. The trajectories in a vacuum show that air resistances decreases both the distance and the maximum height of a projectile, and also explain that the termination time is also reduced in air. In addition, the maximum distance in the x direction was obtained with take-off angles from 30 degrees to 45 degrees in still air and the projectile of particles was highly effected by wind and cross wind. Clearly, a particle has to be so positioned as to take the optimum possible advantage of the wind if the maximum distances is requested. The wind astern increased the maximum distances of x direction compared with the wind ahead. Finally, it is possible to optimize the design of pump by using these results.

  • Liquid is commonly introduced as transversal jets in venturi scrubber which is one of the gas cleaning equipments. The jet dynamics such as penetration and breakup is of fundamental importance to the dust-collection efficiency. We have developed a model that can numerically simulate the breakup of the liquid jet in crossflow. This simulation consists of models on liquid column, jet surface breakup, column fracture and secondary droplet breakup. These models have been embedded in the KIVA3-V code. We have calculated such parameters as the jet penetration, jet trajectory, droplet size, velocity field and the volume flux distribution. The results are compared with the experimental data in this paper.

  • The present study has numerically and experimentally investigated the spray behavior of liquid jet injected in subsonic cross-flow. The corresponding spray characteristics are correlated with jet operating parameters. The spray dynamics are known to be distinctly different in the three regimes: the column, the ligament and the droplet regimes. The behaviors of column, penetration and breakup of liquid jet have been studied. Numerical and physical models are base on a modified KIVA code. The primary atomization is represented by a wave model base on the KH(Kelvin-Helmholtz) instability that is generated by a high interface relative velocity between the liquid and gas flows. In odor to capture the spray trajectory, CCD camera has been utilized. Numerical and experimental results indicate that the breakup point is delayed by increasing gas momentum ratio and the penetration decreases by increasing Weber number.

  • High velocity, gas-assisted liquid drop trajectories were investigated under well-controlled experimental conditions at elevated gas densities and room temperature. A monodisperse stream of drops which are generated by a vibrating-orifice drop generator were injected into a transverse high velocity gas stream. The gas density and air jet velocity were adjusted independently to keep the Weber numbers constant. The Weber numbers studied were 72, 148, 270, 532. The range of experimental conditions included studied the three drop breakup regimes previously referred as bag, stretching/thinning and catastrophic breakup regimes. High-magnification photography and conventional spray field photographs were taken to study the microscopic breakup mechanisms and the drop trajectories in high velocity gas flow fields, respectively. The parent drop trajectories were affected by the gas density and the gas jet velocities and do not show similarity with respect to the either Weber or the Reynolds number, as expected.

  • In this study, spray characteristics research of steady/pulsed injection in crossflow was performed experimentally in the model ramjet combustor. High-speed-camera photography was performed through a visualization window of model combustor, and then, steady and pulsed spray structures were observed and analyzed. Varying influx air temperature and fuel species, we could obtain the trajectory correlation in the steady injection case. In the experiment of pulsed injection, it is found that the pulsed frequency hardly influences spray trajectory. Also, it is found that, in the same injection pressure differential, the trajectory correlation of steady condition can be used for estimating pulsed spray trajectory.

  • The spray characteristics of liquid jet minted in subsonic cross-flow were investigated numerically and experimentally. The behaviors of column, penetration and breakup of plain liquid jet in non-swirling cross-flow of air have been studied. Numerical and physical models are based on a modified KIVAII code. The primary atomization is represented by a wave model based on the KH(Kelvin-Helmholtz) instability that is generated by a high interface relative velocity between the liquid and gas flows. CCD camera has been utilized in oder to capture the spray trajectory. The nozzle diameter was 0.5 mm and its L/D ratios were between 1 and 5. Numerical and experimental results indicate that the breakup point is delayed by increasing gas momentum ratio, the penetration decreases by increasing Weber number and the turbulent or nonturbulent liquid jet is obtained at different L/D ratio.

  • The liquid column and spray trajectory have been experimentally studied in liquid jets injected into subsonic crossflow. With water as fuel injection velocity, injection angle were varied to provide of jet operation conditions. The Pulsed Shadowgraph Photography and Planar Liquid Laser Induced Fluorescence technique was used to determine the injection characteristics in a subsonic crossflow of air. And the mainly objectives of this research was to get a empirical formula of liquid column and spray region trajectory with forward and reversed injection of air stream. As the result, This research has been shown that each trajectories were spatially dependent on air-stream velocity, fuel injection velocity, various injection angle, and normalized injector exit diameter. Furthermore, the empirical formula of liquid column trajectories has been some different of drag coefficient results between forward and reversed angled injection.

  • A study was performed to investigate the characteristics of two-phase jet injected into subsonic cross-flow using the external mixed gas blast two-phase nozzle. The shadowgraph method was adopted for the cross-flow jet visualization and PDPA system was used to measure droplet size, velocity, and volume flux. The atomization of two-phase jet is initially determined according to gas to liquid mass flow-rate ratio and the Reynolds number of cross-flows. The highest penetration trajectories of two-phase jet injected into cross-flow are governed by the momentum ratio at subsonic cross-flow. As GLR of two-phase jet injected into cross-flow increases, the droplet size decreases and the distribution area of volume flux increases. The distribution of volume flux that influenced by the counter vortex pair at the downstream of cross-flow is symmetric in shape of horseshoe.
