  • In this paper, the problem of designing a feedback controller for a robotic manipulator, which is activated by a D.C. motor through a gear train and a flexible shaft or chain, is considered. When the response of the closed loop control system is relatively slow, a satisfactory controller may be designed as a PID controller. As the speed of the control system increases, however, the spring effect of the linkage becomes profound, and as a result, the transient response exhibits a substantial oscillation. To eliminate this oscillation, it is necessary to design the controller based on at least a fourth order system model. This, in turn, requires the feedback of the entire state variables. In practice, however, only the position of the manipulator and the velocity of the motor are readily measurable. The state variable reconstruction method or a state observer cannot be used because of the system nonlinearities such as the Coulomb frictions. In this study, an alternative controller, which is based on delayed feedback of the output variable only, is proposed, and a successful delayed feedback controller is designed and implemented on an actual experimental manipulator.

  • Although the identification of a moving noise source is important in reducing the source power of the transport systems such as airplane or high speed train, the direct measurement of the frequency characteristics is usually difficult due to wind noise when using a microphone running with that noise source. On the other hand the motion of a source causes the frequency characteristics of the pass-by sound measured at a fixed point to be distorted that it is quite difficult to identify the original source characteristics. In this study the relationship between the spectra of the source and the pass-by sound signal is analyzed for a source moving at a constant velocity. The effects of the speed and the frequency characteristics of the source on the pass-by noise spectrum are investigated through numerical simulations.

Experimental and Numerical Analyses of Unsteady Tunnel Flow in Subway Equiped with Platform Screen Door System (스크린도어가 설치된 지하철에서 열차운행에 의한 비정상유동의 실험 및 수치적 해석)

  • To optimize the ventilation and smoke control systems in subway equipped with platform screen door, the technology to analyze the unsteady tunnel flow caused by running of train should be developed. The development of model experiment and numerical analysis technique with relation to unsteady flow of subway were presented. The pressure and air velocity changes in 1/20-scaling experiment unit were measured and results were comparied to those of 3-D unsteady numerical analysis applied with sharp interface method. The experimental and numerical results were quantitatively similar and it would be reasonable to apply sharp interface method to analyze the unsteady flow in subway equipped with platform screen door.

  • Indoor air quality including metro subway is of recent interests in large cities. Inflow air to the inside of the train and circulating air flow through MVAC of stations contain large amount of iron based fine particles. This paper evaluated the collection of such a dust by magnetic filters as comparing to conventional particle capturing mechanisms such as inertia, direct impaction and diffusion. It was found that filtration velocity, magnetic field intensity, and fiber size were the most important parameters for magnetic filtration. Application of magnetic force obviously enhances the collection efficiency particularly in fine modes smaller than 10 mm. However, its effect was found greater in 2.5 mm than submicron particles.

  • Numerical simulation is conducted to clarify the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of brake shoe for freight car. High order up-wind scheme for governing equations, k-epsilon turbulent model and SIMPLEC algorithm based on finite volume method are used to solve the physical shoe model. The governing equations are solved by TDMA(Tri-Diagonal Matrix Algorithm) with line-by-line method and block correction. From the results of simulation, the characteristics of cooling pattern is strongly affected by the velocity of train and the material of shoe. The face lift of shoe affects on the temperature distribution of rear surface of shoe as well as the front surface of that. Due to the grooves in shoe, it will be expected to cool the frictional heat and result in the reduction of maintenance efforts.

  • The computer simulation techniques were adopted to evaluate the effects of seating positions of passenger under various accident scenarios. The baseline of computer simulation model was tuned by the sled impact tests which conducted under the upright and standard seating positions. This study shows the effect of relative velocity between occupant and struck vehicle while occupant is impacted to a front seat's seatback. Although, base on the current accident scenarios, The KHST is performed well enough to protect average adult male occupants. However, Results from the tests indicate small size occupant or higher impact speed may cause sever neck and femur injuries.

  • In this report, numerical investigations have demonstrated, that the displacement underneath a moving loa야ng reach a maximum value, if the speed of the load is equal to propagation velocity of the maximum wave. The load speed for which the maximum displacement occurs is called critical speed. The critical speed divides the velocities in a subcritical and a super-critical region. By means of calculations the dynamic behaviour of the slab track-soil is investigated. For concrete slab track dynamic wheel load are given in dependence of relevant excitation mechanism and speed of the train. These loads can be used for the dimensioning of the track as well as for the prognosis of the vibrations at the track and the surrounding soil.

  • The vertical slope of railway track is the differences of attitude for the horizontal distances between two positions of railway. It is better to be small vertical slope for the comfortable of passengers and the operation of railway system. However, the variable vertical slope is required that the simple vertical slope causes the huge quantities of embankment and cutting, the continuous welded rail tunnels, the continuous welded rail bridges, etc,. This research is for the relation between the vertical slopes and the trainset performances. This research shows that the effective vertical slopes for the operation of railway. The velocity of car and operation time and the consumed energy was considered for each vertical slope and type of car power system. The result of suitable vertical slope from this research is to be used for the design of railway plan.

  • At the present time, civil structure based of aseismatic design in the Korea began about 1997. However, most of the railway bridge constructed with block and block in the past can easily deteriorate with time due to the increase of repeated traffic loading, increase of train speed, etc. In this study, soil properties of the substructure of railway bridge with block and block was investigated through the SASW(spectral Analysis or Surface Waves) and RCTC test in the field and laboratories. Also, stabilization of liquefaction after occurred earthquake was investigated through the Seed & Idress method use of N value and Andrus and Stoke method use of S-Wave velocity.

  • Recently, the microprocessor with network function based-controlled systems instead of conventional microprocessors is widely used to industrial applications, and also those technologies are widely adopted for train control and monitoring in modern rapid transit systems such as railway vehicles. The purpose of this paper is to propose a high quality data transmission line of railway vehicle system controlled by a microprocessor, which was designed and realized through SMG 7&8 and ISA project. Noise, distortion and attenuation are always present in data transmission system and strictly limit performance. This paper describes a method to calculate the propagation constant, attenuation constant, phase velocity and length of stub.
