A study on the characteristics in the vicinity of the railway track (철도 선로 주변의 자연풍 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Anemometers to examine the characteristics of the natural wind in the vicinity of the railway track has been installed in two spots, one at the Cheon-Asan station of the Seoul-Busan high-speed line, and the other at the Daechon station of the Changhang conventional railway line in 2006 to examine the characteristics of the natural wind around the railway track to estimate the actual wind speed acting on the train and to develop the wind gust model consisting with the Korean climate condition. The measured data shows that the instant wind velocity frequently exceeds the velocity of train speed restriction, 20m/s, and the actual wind velocities measured in the vicinity of the track are larger than the that measured by the Korean Meteorological Administration(KMA) because the anemometers are installed on the highly-elevated bridges.

  • Lateral ballast resistance is one of track components that causes much effects in track buckling. Ballast work or tie renewal if is done the ballast original lateral resistance lose. Reduction of lateral ballast resistance may significantly reduce the stability of track. Lateral ballast resistance that is decreased by these work increases slowly according to the increase of train passing tonnage. We measured the ballast lateral resistance in Okchon station neighborhood in Seoul-Busan line to grasp fluctuation phenomenon of ballast resistance by ballast class-2 work. The rate of decrease of ballast lateral resistance shortly after ballast work and the rate of increase by increase of train passing tonnage were investigated.

  • As the high speed rail to be opened at 2004, the. railroad will dominate over the transportation market in the Seoul-Busan corridor compared to road transport. But, it is obvious that the LOS(level of service) of railroad at 2004 will be worse in the areas that are not served KTX. For the speed-up of conventional line, it is a worldwide trend that tilting trains are served on the conventional railway line. That is the reason serving tilting trains is very efficient to use existing facilities and improve cruise time when capacity is available. In this paper, we suggest 10 routes are replaced with present operating trains(saemaeul, mugunghwa) by the tilting train.

Survey Methodology for Estimating Patronage of High-Speed Rail in Korea

  • High-speed rail study needs to focus on passenger movements as a key element of the planning process. A particular challenge is obtaining comprehensive information on high-speed rail passenger movements. A national preference stated survey was conducted from October to November of 2011 to meet this challenge through direct personal interviews of travelers between Seoul and Busan (the so called Kyung-Bu corridor). Over 40 interviewers were hired and trained to conduct personal interviews at several stations along locations within Kyung-Bu Seoul and Busan corridor. A total of 4,550 travelers were interviewed, furnishing an extensive database on high-speed rail passenger movements. The methodology and procedure employed to collect the national data for Korean high-speed train KTX are described. Specific issues investigated include survey design, questionnaire and strategy. Lessons learned from the high-speed rail passenger movement study provide insights for other countries contemplating similar high-speed rail studies.

  • This Study is about adoption of slab track on the new high speed railway line between Daegu and Busan. While ballast track currently used is easy to construct with low investment, the error margin of rail track occurs in the track due to the repetition load of the train. Therefore, repairs should be carried out all the time to put the railway track at the repair level or less. In addition, noise caused by such repairs has become a new social problem at night. Construction costs for slab track are about 1.3-1.5 times higher than those for ballast track. However, slab track will save labor costs by solving various problems of ballast track. In this regard, it is feasible to adopt slab track on the new high speed railway line between Daegu and Busan.

  • According to a paper on estimating and forecasting the size of the pet-related industry published in 2018, 26.9% of the nation's pet-owned households were in their 30s and one-person households, consisting only of couples, as of 2015. Regarding the social increase in single-person households and double-income couples, it is believed that the surge in neglect time and lack of training time that pets do not want is a problem. This paper conducted the development of hardware and software products for the training and management of companion animals using Lego Mind Storm. Lego mind Storm is equipped with a variety of sensors and can produce equipment to train or care pets with simple programming through easy assembly and visual scripting. It is also expected that switching to new equipment will be easy because it is well modularized. We hope that this study will help the training and management of pets when the expansion of the pet market becomes active through this study.

A Study on TPS based on ATO for Driverless LRT (ATO 자동운전 기반의 무인운전 경전철 TPS에 관한 연구)

  • TPS (Train Performance Simulation) based on ATO (Automatic Train Operation) is required for driverless LRT (Light Rail Transit) operation plan instead of typical TPS based on driver operation. In this paper, new TPS model using ATO pattern is proposed and compared with the automatic train operation result in a test line of Seoul Metro Line 6 and in a whole line of Busan-Gimhae LRT. The actual ATO pattern can be very accurately simulated by new TPS model with the introduction of 4 parameters such as commercial braking rate, jerk, station stop profile and grade converted distance. The commercial scheduled time for driverless automatic train operation can be proposed to have "Fast" mode TPS trip time plus 3 seconds/km margin recommended by Korean standard LRT specification in this paper.

  • KTX has started commercial service from Seoul to Busan and Mokpo since April 1, 2004. The service line is composed of new-high speed line and conventional line. Before KTX is runs, the maximum operational speed on conventional line was 140km/h. In order to reduce the traveling time, operation speed of KTX must be increased on the conventional line. So, we performed test running with prototype HSR-350x and verification of safety was made in $10\%$ speed-up. Korean High Speed Train HSR-350x) was developed by G7 - R&D project. In this study, in safety aspect, several technical reviews are introduced and the possibility for reduction of traveling time is investigated on the conventional line by using HSR-350x.

  • Vibration exposure of the KTX and ITX-saemaeulho on the Gyung-Bu line was evaluated and compared in terms of human health based on ISO 2631. RMS value of KTX was calculated as much lower than ITX-saemaeulho in all travel sections. When VDV result of the two trains drived return travel from Seoul to Busan in single day is compared on the health guidance caution zone of ISO 2631, vibration exposure of KTX is safer than ITX-saemaeulho which is marginally under the caution line.
