In this study, the 750㎾ scale composite blade for the horizontal axis wind turbine system was designed and manufactured, and it was tested and evaluated by the specific structural test rig. In the test, it was found that local bucklings at the trailing edge of the blade and excessive deflections at the blade tip were happened. In order to solve these problems, the design of blade structure was modified. after improving the design, the abrupt change of deflection at the blade tip was reduced by smooth variation of the spar thickness and the local buckling was removed by extending the web length. The modified design was analyzed by the FEM, the safety and stability of th blade structure.

In this study, a method for optimal design of impeller and diffuser blades in the centrifugal compressor using response surface method (RSM) and multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) was evaluated. A numerical simulation was conducted using ANSYS CFX with various values of impeller and diffuser parameters, which consist of leading edge (LE) angle, trailing edge (TE) angle, and blade thickness. Each of the parameters was divided into three levels. A total of 45 design points were planned using central composite design (CCD), which is one of the design of experiment (DOE) techniques. Response surfaces that were generated on the basis of the results of DOE were used to determine the optimal shape of impeller and diffuser blade. The entire process of optimization was conducted using ANSYS Design Xplorer (DX). Through the optimization, isentropic efficiency and pressure recovery coefficient, which are the main performance parameters of the centrifugal compressor, were increased by 0.3 and 5, respectively.

The thickness, loading, and broadband noise generated from the trailing edge of the UH-1H main rotor are numerically compared each other. The Kocureck and Tangler's prescribed wake model is adopted to represent the wake geometry during the hovering motion. Three tip Mach numbers of $M_{T}$ = 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8, are selected to analyze the effects of different tip Mach numbers. At $M_{T}$ = 0.8, in considering the A-weighting and audible frequency band, the random noise is smaller than the tonal noises such as the thickness and the loading noise which have the low frequency characteristics. Especially most of the random noise frequency spread on the ultrasound region. On the other hand, below $M_{T}$ = 0.4, the band of random noise moves to the audible frequency region, and the random noise becomes larger than the tonal noise. It turns out that the random noise analysis of the rotor should be necessary at low speed operating condition.

This study deals with the design of a safety device around a leisure boat propeller. The safety device is to be designed to minimize performance degradation attached to propulsors in coastal waters. These devices, important for preventing propeller accidents, negatively gives influence boat performance, especially at higher speeds. In order to minimize the negative effect, the accelerating ducts, normally used in ESDs (Energy Saving Devices) have been chosen as a safety device. The present study aims to design an optimal duct (minimizing negative effect) through the parametric study. Based on the Marine 19A nozzle, the nozzle's thickness and angle were varied to obtain the optimum parameter in the preliminary design by the computational fluid dynamics program Star-CCM+ Ver. 15.02. In the detailed design, a NACA 4-digit Airfoil shape resembling the Marine 19A by modification at the trailing edge was chosen and the optimum shape was chosen according to variation of camber, thickness, and incidence angle for optimization. The optimally designed duct shows a speed decrease of about 10% in the sea trial result, which is much smaller than the normal speed decrease of at least 30%. The present designing method can give wide applications to the leisure boat because the wake is almost the same due to using the outboard propulsor.

A numerical study on the viscous flow around a 2-dimensional circulation control foil is carried out for application on the field of naval architecture and ocean engineering. The governing equations are the RANS and the continuity equations. The equations are discretized by finite difference method and MAC method and the pressure poisson equation is calculate by a SOR method and an O-type non-staggered boundary fitted coordinate system which is overlapped near the slot is used to improve the numerical accuracy. Turbulence is approximated by a modified Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model. In the present paper, the Coanda effect on a 2-dimensional foil of a 20% thickness ellipse with modified rounded trailing edge has been numerically studied. The change in drag and lift of the foil with various jet momentums are calculated and compared to the experimental results to show good agreements.
The resolving capacities of xanthophyll pigments on thin-layers of Silica Gel, Hyflo super-Cel, and Micro-Cel C with varying concentrations of acetone in petroleum ether as the developing solvent were compared. The results showed that the resolving capacity of Micro-Cel C thin-layer was superior to others and satisfactory for the separation of leaf carotenoids in clearly separated six bands; carotenes, lutein-zeaxanthin, antheraxanthin, violaxanthin, an unidentified band, and neoxanthin, when it was developed with $13\%$ acetone-petroleum ether solution for 15 to 20minutes in an unsaturated chamber. Adhension of Micro-Cel C to glass was adequate without binder. Calcium sulfate used as a binder appeared to inactivate the resolving capacity of Micro-Cel C. Removing an about 0.2cm-wide layer on bo side of thin-layer slide helped to prevent 'edge effect' which gave tailing and faster solvent ascending along the side than the center. An adequate thickness of thin-layer was obtained when a 3 ml aliquot of the suspension in which l0g powdered Micro-Cel C was suspended in 75 ml distilled water was coated on a $2\times20cm$ glass slide.
Microturbomachinery (< 250 kW) using gas foil bearings can function without oil lubricants, simplify rotor-bearing systems, and demonstrate excellent rotordynamic stability at high speeds. State-of-the-art technologies generally use bump foil bearings or leaf foil bearings due to the specific advantages of each of the two types. Although these two types of bearings have been studied extensively, there are very few studies on leaf-bump foil bearings, which are a combination of the two aforementioned bearings. In this work, we illustrate a simple mathematical model of the leaf-bump foil bearing with leaf foils supported on bumps, and predict its static and dynamic performances. The analysis uses the simple elastic model for bumps that was previously developed and verified using experimental data, adds a leaf foil model, and solves the Reynolds equation for isothermal, isoviscous, and ideal gas fluid flow. The model predicts that the drag torques of the leaf-bump foil bearings are not affected significantly by static load and bearing clearance. Due to the preload effect of the leaf foils, rotor spinning, even under null static load, generates significant hydrodynamic pressure with its peak near the trailing edge of each leaf foil. A parametric study reveals that, while the journal eccentricity and minimum film thickness decrease, the drag torque, direct stiffness, and direct damping increase with increasing bump stiffness. The journal attitude angle and cross-coupled stiffness remain nearly constant with increasing bump stiffness. Interestingly, they are significantly smaller compared to the corresponding values obtained for bump foil bearings, thus, implying favorable rotor stability performance.

In the jet engines on the aircrafts cruising at high altitude over 20 km and subsonic speed, the Reynolds number in terms of the compressor blades becomes very low. In such an operating condition with low Reynolds number, it is widely reported that total pressure loss of the air flow through the compressor cascades increases dramatically due to separation of the boundary layer and the secondary-flow. But the detail of flow mechanisms causes the total pressure loss has not been fully understood yet. In the present study, two series of numerical investigations were conducted to study the effects of Reynolds number on the aerodynamic characteristics of compressor cascades. At first, the incompressible flow fields in the two-dimensional compressor cascade composed of C4 airfoils were numerically simulated with various values of Reynolds number. Compared with the corresponding experimental data, the numerically estimated trend of total pressure loss as a function of Reynolds number showed good agreement with that of experiment. From the visualized numerical results, the thickness of boundary layer and wake were found to increase with the decrease of Reynolds number. Especially at very low Reynolds number, the separation of boundary layer and vortex shedding were observed. The other series, as the preparatory investigation, the flow fields in the transonic compressor, NASA Rotor 37, were simulated under the several conditions, which corresponded to the operation at sea level static and at 10 km of altitude with low density and temperature. It was found that, in the case of operation at high altitude, the separation region on the blade surface became lager, and that the radial and reverse flow around the trailing edge become stronger than those under sea level static condition.
