A mariner feels the ship-handling difficulty when the vessel onboard passes through breakwater. Until now, there is no a layout design of breakwater to take into account the ship-handling difficulty for the mariner. 11Us paper reproduced this situation which ship-handling is difficult by using marine traffic flow simulation, and it applied to Environmental Stress Model as the assessment model which is a quantitative model for evaluating the difficulty of ship-handling arising from restriction in maneuvering water areas and arising from traffic congestion The results are as follows. (1) The layout change of breakwater has little influence for reduction of ship-handling difficulty in the areas of vessel traffic volume. (2) In the situation of same breakwater width, difference of ship speed has an effect on decrease of ship-handling difficulty. (3) Expansion of breakwater width decreases ship-handling difficulty quantitatively.

This Study aims to change and expand present traffic regulation from the human driver to Automated Vehicle(AV), we conducted an in-depth interview(IDI) into the traffic regulation service's strategy for an AV-related information consumer group(AVs and service developers) and a manager group (an information service management agency). The IDI results confirmed several important opinions and requirements for an information service by regulatory information manager groups (enough for AV development), such as a systematic need for dynamic regulatory information and a unified information management system. Also, we find out implications about adopting the Internet of Things (IoT) technology in traffic safety facilities to provide dynamic regulation information on the roads.
In order to manage traffic operations efficiently, it is required to establish evacuation strategies, including path, disaster prevention, and signal control. This is because the delayed response of operators would cause dreadful loss of our community. Therefore, it is very important to do the research related to traffic disaster prevention system. In this paper, we select the City of Cheongju as a study area since lots of damage resulting from natural disaster such as storm and flood have been frequently taken place. In addition, this paper suggest traffic disaster prevention measures and analyzed its effect on signal operation to achieve high level of traffic efficiency. As a result, traffic flow is similar to normal condition when we applied developed signal operation method. It is also demonstrated if disaster information is spread out as fast as it can be, and signal operation is managed properly in case by case, we conclude that user safety has to be secured.

Recent advanced sensors and communication technologies have been widely applied to advanced safety vehicle (ASV) for reducing traffic accident and injury severity. To apply the advanced safety vehicle technologies, it is important to quantify the safety benefits, which is a fundamental for justifying application. This study proposed a methodology for quantifying the effectiveness of the advanced driver assistant system (ADAS), and applied the methodology to lane departure warning system (LDWS) and automatic emergency braking system (AEBS) which are typical advanced driver assistant systems. When the proposed methodology is applied to 2008-2010 gyeonggi-province crash data, LDWS would reduce about 10~14% of relevant crashes such as head-on, run-off-the road, rollover and fixed-object collisions on the road. In addition, AEBS could potentially prevent about 50% of total rear-end crashes. The outcomes of this study support decision making for developing not only vehicular technology but also relevant safety policies.

This study was initiated to develop an optimal signal control algorithm for coordinated signalized intersections using individual vehicle's information which can be collected in a format of prove vehicle data (PVD) via V2I (Vehicle to Infrastructure) communication environment. For developing this signal optimization algorithm, three modules were developed for phase group length computation, split distribution, and phase sequence assignment. The simulation analysis using the microscopic simulation model, Vissim, was conducted for evaluating the effectiveness of the developed algorithm. The analysis result represented that the performance of the developed algorithm is far superior to that of the fixed coordinated signal control method which is the most common signal control method for coordinated signalized intersections in Korea.

Objectives To explore the traffic injury patients' experience on health care utilization of Korean Medicine (KM) practice and perception of health care system for developing a Korean medicine clinical practice guideline (CPG) of traffic injuries by survey method. Methods Two hundred ten patients in suffering from traffic injuries were surveyed from September 1st, 2019 to January 31th, 2020 at 2 University Hospitals (Pusan National Korean Medicine Hospital and Kyung Hee Korean Medicine Hospital at Gangdong) and 1 Spine Specialty Hospital (Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine). A structured questionnaire of experience on health care utilization of KM practice and perception of health care system of was distributed to responders by visits and all data were statistically analysed. Results Survey results showed high satisfaction of patients with the experience of KM treatments in order of daoyin exercise (7.8±2.3), chuna manual therapy (7.7±4.0), pharmacoacupuncture (7.4±3.0) etc. Safety concerns were reported in 9.1% subjects and 205 (97.6%) patients answered that collaboration with KM and western medicine is necessary for patients with traffic injuries. For the patients' requirement for extending insurance coverage, the most required therapy was chuna manual therapy (57.5%) and pharmacoacupuncture (42.0%). Conclusions This study presented the realistic patient-centered perception of KM practice and health care system in Korea. These results will provide basic data to be reflected in the process of adaptation for the revision of Korean Medicine CPG for traffic injuries.

The use of ranging sensors on automobiles is becoming common with the desire of traffic safety by providing drivers the information of the relative distance between the vehicles. In this paper, the LED visible light ranging system different from the conventional ranging systems using the RF signal is investigated. For such a system, we propose a novel ranging algorithm which combines the time-of-flight (TOF) with the CDMA technology. Via the CDMA technology, the TOF ranging system can accurately distinguish the desired ranging signal from the visible light interferences of the neighbor vehicles. In addition, the proposed system can also overcome the light noise from other luminaries, i.e. sun-light, traffic-light, and so on. The simulation results show that the CDMA-based LED ranging system has a significant improvement for the ranging accuracy compared with the case without employing the CDMA.
The traffic of tug/barges which are carrying construction materials, large plants for harbor development, or offshore structures has recently increased in the coast of Korea. The west and south coast of Korea are always congested due to a lot of islands and traffic concentration. Specially tug/barges have higher probability of marine accidents due to their bad maneuverability than others. Considering the operational circumstance and maneuverability, this study was to develop a wide-area monitoring and control system for tug/barges in the coastal area of Korea. The system was made in the form of three program modules i.e. navigation analysis program module, monitoring and control program module, database module. And seven functions were programmed to monitor and control the tug/barges efficiently. These are ship information search, tug/barge information and track management, designated area and safe navigation zone management, fairway management, accident data management, warning of danger, safety information management.
Recently, many ships such as VLCCs, dangerous cargo ships, high speed ferry boats are visiting Yeosu, Gwangyang harbor. The traffic volume of the year 2003 has increased as many as 2.5 times of 1988. However there is no suitable ships' routeing system which takes account of today's traffic situations in this area This study aims at the settling of hazardous factors to mitigate the danger to vessels in Yeosu${\cdot}$Gwangyang bay and to secure the safety of maritime environment.
The variable message sign (VMS) is equipment to improve the efficiency of traffic flow and safety of travel by providing real-time information to road users on traffic, road, weather situation, and traffic control due to construction. The information messages of the letter-based VMS taking up most of the VMS on the general national highways consist of section, travel time in sections, and road control situation. This study devised an improvement plan centered on road users, not road managers-centered existing message-based VMS through an analysis of road users' preference targeting the letter-based VMS operated in the general national highways in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. By presenting the measure for system improvement through which information on unexpected situations that road users prefer the most can be quickly and efficiently provided, this study aims to improve the efficiency of road user-centered VMS traffic information.
