  • Until a recent date Wan-do Port have been made efforts to advance its marine policy toward the base of marine distribution industry. Therefore the administration of Wan-do port have been carried out many projects on improvements of harbour system very actively. The improvement of ship traffic system would be one of them. This research examined the general view of present situations of marine traffic system in Wan-do waters area and suggested improvements in ship route and anchorage.

A Development of an Evaluation System for Traffic Calming Schemes (교통정온화사업 평가체계 개발에 관한 연구)

  • In the study, evaluation indicators that should be considered in applying traffic calming schemes were developed, and it was intended to analyze the importance of indicators that should most considered in evaluation traffic calming scheme through AHP analysis on the basis of it. The result of the study is summarized as follows. The result of evaluation indicators may be summarized by dividing into residential area and commercial area. In category, the safety is shown to be more important than other indicators in the analysis when evaluation (residential area is 0.514 and commercial area is 0.439). Importance of evaluation indicators was analyzed in order Average Vehicle Speed, Traffic Accident Severity, and Pedestrian Separation. Residential areas to help keep the safety of pedestrians 'Average Vehicle Speed' as the major indices were derived. In commercial areas were analyzed as an important indicator Pedestrian Separation. Because there are so many pedestrians. When applying the effect of Traffic Calming, residential is greater than the commercial area.

Study on Improving the Navigational Safety Evaluation Methodology based on Autonomous Operation Technology (자율운항기술 기반의 선박 통항 안전성 평가 방법론 개선 연구)

  • In the near future, autonomous ships, ships controlled by shore remote control centers, and ships operated by navigators will coexist and operate the sea together. In the advent of this situation, a method is required to evaluate the safety of the maritime traffic environment. Therefore, in this study, a plan to evaluate the safety of navigation through ship control simulation was proposed in a maritime environment, where ships directly controlled by navigators and autonomous ships coexisted, using autonomous operation technology. Own ship was designed to have autonomous operational functions by learning the MMG model based on the six-DOF motion with the PPO algorithm, an in-depth reinforcement learning technique. The target ship constructed maritime traffic modeling data based on the maritime traffic data of the sea area to be evaluated and designed autonomous operational functions to be implemented in a simulation space. A numerical model was established by collecting date on tide, wave, current, and wind from the maritime meteorological database. A maritime meteorology model was created based on this and designed to reproduce maritime meteorology on the simulator. Finally, the safety evaluation proposed a system that enabled the risk of collision through vessel traffic flow simulation in ship control simulation while maintaining the existing evaluation method.

Deep Learning-Based Roundabout Traffic Analysis System Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Videos (드론 영상을 이용한 딥러닝 기반 회전 교차로 교통 분석 시스템)

  • Roundabouts have strengths in traffic flow and safety but can present difficulties for inexperienced drivers. Demand to acquire and analyze drone images has increased to enhance a traffic environment allowing drivers to deal with roundabouts easily. In this paper, we propose a roundabout traffic analysis system that detects, tracks, and analyzes vehicles using a deep learning-based object detection model (YOLOv7) in drone images. About 3600 images for object detection model learning and testing were extracted and labeled from 1 hour of drone video. Through training diverse conditions and evaluating the performance of object detection models, we achieved an average precision (AP) of up to 97.2%. In addition, we utilized SORT (Simple Online and Realtime Tracking) and OC-SORT (Observation-Centric SORT), a real-time object tracking algorithm, which resulted in an average MOTA (Multiple Object Tracking Accuracy) of up to 89.2%. By implementing a method for measuring roundabout entry speed, we achieved an accuracy of 94.5%.

  • In Korea, an intelligent transportation system(ITS) is established to efficiently operate traffic congestion on roads and is being used for traffic information collection and speed control systems. Currently, designated and dedicated lanes are in place to ensure traffic circulation and traffic safety, and systematic and accurate illegal vehicle crackdown systems with artificial intelligence technology are needed. In this study, we propose a vehicle number recognition model that can improve the efficiency of the traffic of designated vehicles. By applying computer vision technology, we are going to identify three-lane and four-lane multi-lane roads in real time and detect vehicle numbers by car to suggest ways to crack down on vehicles that violate the designated lane system.

Analysis on Installation Criteria for Scrambled Crosswalks Considering Vehicle and Pedestrian Traffic Volume (교통량과 보행량을 고려한 대각선 횡단보도 설치기준 정립 방안 연구)

  • Nowadays, interest in safety of pedestrians who are relatively weak when compared with vehicles increases. Also, concern for pedestrian accidents on crosswalks increases. For these reasons, scrambled crosswalks which are considered to contribute pedestrian safety by reducing conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians are actively discussed and there are also a few intersections where they are actually installed. However, scrambled crosswalks must include all-red phase for all vehicle traffic flows, which inevitably leads to increase of lost time per cycle. Therefore, evaluation in terms of efficiency should be done before installation of scrambled crosswalks. This research suggests installation criteria for scrambled crosswalks so that it is possible to judge whether installation of scrambled crosswalks is appropriate only by surveying vehicle traffic volume and pedestrian traffic volume. This research derives optimum cycle length from signal optimization models which considers both vehicle traffic volume and pedestrian traffic volume. From this optimum cycle length, this research compares total delay time before and after installation of scrambled crosswalks. From an analysis, two research results are derived. Firstly, there is critical traffic volume above which installation of scrambled crosswalks can not efficient. Secondly, appropriate areas for installation of scrambled crosswalks are different by each signal intersection or by each signal system and those difference vary. From these results, this research suggests installation criteria for scrambled crosswalks which consists of two steps. The delay time of the pedestrians may be increased after the diagonal crosswalk is installed, but it may be desirable to install in consideration of the appropriate traffic level to ensure safety.

  • Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) is designed to enhance safety in aircraft operations, by reducing the incidences of mid-air collision between aircraft. The current version of TCAS provides only vertical resolution advisory to the pilots, if an aircraft's collision with another is predicted to be imminent, while efforts to include horizontal resolution advisory have been made, as well. This paper introduces a collision resolution algorithm, which includes both vertical and horizontal avoidance maneuvers of aircraft. Also, the paper compares between the performance of the proposed algorithm and that of algorithms with only vertical or horizontal avoidance maneuver of aircraft.

Modeling of an isolated intersection using Petri Network

  • The development of a mathematical modular framework based on Petri Network theory to model a traffic network is the subject of this paper. Traffic intersections are the primitive elements of a transportation network and are characterized as event driven and asynchronous systems. Petri network have been utilized to model these discrete event systems; further analysis of their structure can reveal information relevant to the concurrency, parallelism, synchronization, and deadlock avoidance issuse. The Petri-net based model of a generic traffic junction is presented. These modular networks are effective in synchronizing their components and can be used for modeling purposes of an asynchronous large scale transportation system. The derived model is suitable for simulations on a multiprocessor computer since its program execution safety is secured. The software pseudocode for simulating a transportation network model on a multiprocessor system is presented.

Implementation of CWP MRT Data Processing Module for Efficient Correlating Flight Plan (효율적인 비행계획 연관을 위한 CWP MRT 데이터 처리 모듈 구현)

  • It is very important to correlate flight plan for safe and prompt ATC(air traffic control) operation. In this paper, we design CWP(controller working position) MRT(multi radar tracking) processing module to achieve improvement of overall ATC automation system's performance by minimizing network traffic overload when correlating MRT with flight plan. This implemented module can guarantee efficiency and safety of ATC automation system by applying distributed correlated manner, and reduce network usage by using encoded flight plan correlated MRT data format. We found that this module has 8.54~12.11% lower network usage and 8.37~11.27% higher network traffic fairness than the module using standalone manner.

  • A median barrier in the road is to separate driver and passenger the traffic flow in the 4-line over highway. In order to keep thee safety of and minimize the traffic jam in the traffic accidents, the ubiquitous intelligent median barrier system is proposed in this paper. This system is required to develop the sensor node fields in the median barrier, which detects the traffic accident using vibration sensors and wireless communication network. Free space test to sensing & receiving radio frequency, verification of middleware to report and countermeasure the accident intelligently to police and hospital are carried out.
