  • Video Image Detection System can be used for various traffic managements including traffic operation and traffic safety. Video Image Detection Technique can be divide by Tripwire System and Tracking System. Autoscope, which is widely used in the market, utilizes the Tripwire System. In this study, we developed an individual vehicle tracking system that can collect microscopic traffic information and also developed another image detection technology under the Tripwire System. To prove the accuracy and reliability of the newly developed systems, we compared the traffic data of the systems with those generated by Autoscope. The results showed that 0.35% of errors compared with the real traffic counts and 1.78% of errors with Autoscope. Performance comparisons on speed from the two systems showed the maximum errors of 1.77% with Autoscope, which confirms the usefulness of the newly developed systems.

  • A computer vision system applied to an intelligent safety vehicle has been required to be worked on a small sized real time special purposed hardware not on a general purposed computer. In addition, the system should have a high reliability even under the adverse road traffic environment. This paper presents a design and an implementation of an onboard hardware system taking into account for high speed image processing to analyze a road traffic scene. The system is mainly composed of two parts: an early processing module of FPGA and a postprocessing module of DSP. The early processing module is designed to extract several image primitives such as the intensity of a gray level image and edge attributes in a real-time Especially, the module is optimized for the Sobel edge operation. The postprocessing module of DSP utilizes the image features from the early processing module for making image understanding or image analysis of a road traffic scene. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated by an experiment of a lane-related information extraction. The experiment shows the successful results of image processing speed of twenty-five frames of 320$\times$240 pixels per second.

  • Actually, The present traffic accident detection system is subsisting limitation of accurate distinction under the crowded condition at intersection because the system defend upon mainly the image information at intersection and digital image processing techniques nearly all. To complement this insufficiency, this article aims to estimate the level of present technology and a realistic possibility by analyzing the acoustic characteristic of crash sound that we have to investigate for improvement of traffic accident detection rate at intersection. The skid sound of traffic accident is showed the special pattern at 1[kHz])${\sim}$3[kHz] bandwidth when vehicles are almost never operated in and around intersection. Also, the frequency bandwidth of vehicle crash sound is showed sound pressure difference oyer 30[dB] higher than when there is no occurrence of traffic accident below 500[Hz].

  • This paper proposes a new method of the traffic signal detection and the recognition in an HSI color model. The proposed method firstly converts a ROI image in the RGB model to in the HSI model to segment the color of a traffic signal. Secondly, the segmented colors are dilated by the morphological processing to connect the traffic signal light and the signal light case and finally, it extracts the traffic signal light and the case by the aspect ratio using the connected component analysis. The extracted components show the detection and the recognition of the traffic signal lights. The proposed method is implemented using C language in Raspberry Pi 4 system with a camera module for a real-time image processing. The system was fixedly installed in a moving vehicle, and it recorded a video like a vehicle black box. Each frame of the recorded video was extracted, and then the proposed method was tested. The results show that the proposed method is successful for the detection and the recognition of traffic signals.

  • The most typical method to generate traffic information is installing vehicle detectors and collecting various traffic variables. The information collection accuracy of a vehicle detector affects the reliability of the generated traffic information. The most universal vehicle detector is an image detector. This study installed a magnetic detector in the same position as an image detector and evaluated the accuracy of traffic volume and speed data depending on a variety of environment. Based on the evaluation, more errors occurred as the image detector was placed farther from the camera, whereas more errors were found to occur during the night rather than the day. Although rainfall did not affect the collection of traffic volume, it negatively affected speed data collection. Therefore, an analysis of the camera's view angle and its optimization depending on the camera installation position and height are required to enhance the currently operated image detector performance. It is judged that a separate performance evaluation criterion should be prepared in a bad weather environment.

  • This paper discusses a method for optimizing the semi-actuated traffic signal control system by adjusting the initial interval according to the number of vehicles waiting for the green light in the actuated phase. We also present a Left-Turn actuated traffic signal control strategy that examines the vehicular noise in the detection area and determines the phase extension and the gap-out. In order to detect the vehicles in real-time, an image detector's Video Image Tracking technology was adopted. A 'Zone in Zone'method was implemented, and the image detection area is segmented into three zones: 1) Zone1 for verifying a vehicles obligatory presence, 2) Zone2 for counting the standby vehicles, and 3) Zone3 for examining the number of vehicles that have passed. The on-site assessment of the Left Turn Actuated Control is carried out using CORSIM, and the results show that the Control Delay decreased by 23.10%, 15.06%, and 4.34% compared to the delays resulted from pre-timed control, semi-actuated control-1 and semi-actuated control-2 traffic signal control systems respectively. The Queue Time also decreased by 36.24%, 20.10% and the Total Time by 14.36%, 7.02% for the same scenario. Which clearly demonstrates the operational efficiency. A sensitivity analysis reveals that the improvement from the propose traffic control strategy tends to increase as the through traffic volume reaches a saturated condition and the left-turn traffic volume decreases.

  • The main purpose of this study was to estimate a new regression model to explain the relationship between urban forest and air temperature in summer, 2001. This study consists of two parts: correlation coefficient analysis and regression analysis. According to correlation coefficient analysis, thermal infra-red radiations of the major land use categories found significant difference in each category. However there were no significant relationship between the data (thermal infra-red radiation and NDVI) derived from Landsat-7 ETM+ image and air temperature at Automatic Weather Stations(AWSs). After estimating various regression models for summer air temperature, the final models were chosen. The final regression models consisted of two variables such as forest m and traffic facilities area. The regression models explained over 78% of the variability in air temperatures. The regression models with variables of forest area and traffic facilities area showed that the coefficient of the first variable was even more significant than the second one. However, the negative impact of the traffic facilities area was slightly greater than the positive impact of the forest area. Consequently, the effects of forest area and traffic facilities area were apparent to explain summer air temperature in Seoul. Therefore two policies have the most important implications to mitigate the summer air temperature in Seoul: to expand and to conserve the urban forest; and to change the Oafnc facilities'characteristics. The results from this study are expected to be useful not merely in informing the public that urban forest mitigates summer air temperahne, but in urging the necessity of budgets for trees and managing urban forests. It is recommended that field swey of summer air temperature be Performed for the vadidation of the models. • With digitalization accelerated by the 4th industrial revolution, the marine traffic environment is also expected to change rapidly. The purpose of this study was to derive a new service for Aids to Navigation (AtoN) to respond to a new marine traffic environment and suggest service requirements from the perspective of the ship's operator. For this purpose, a survey of ship operators was conducted and IPA analysis was performed. Marine traffic intelligence and information services and Image-based ocean environment information services were deduced as high-priority services from the perspective of ship operators. Thus, the derived results can serve as basic data for developing new AtoN services and determining policy directions.
