The Effect of Real-time Traffic Information System Relieving Traffic Congestion

  • This study investigates the effect of real-time traffic information on the traffic flows in Korea. Recently, the development of smartphones has made it easier to use the route guidance service based on real-time traffic information. By the Big Data analysis in the study, it was found that the number of postings on the web community sites increased sharply in 2010 and 2011 when the smartphones spread widely. In the analysis of the traffic speeds by time, the average traffic speeds for morning and evening rush hours on weekdays from 2009 to 2014 of the 142 sections in the 6 national highways in Gyeonggi-do, Korea were used. From the results of the analysis, it was found that the percentage of the number of sections with the improved traffic flows increased greatly in 2012 compared to 2011. The findings of the study indicate the effect of the real-time traffic information on improving traffic flows.

Traffic-induced vibrations at the wet joint during the widening of concrete bridges and non-interruption traffic control strategies

  • The rapid development of road transport has increased the number of bridges that require widening. A critical issue in the construction of bridge widening is the influence of vibrations of the old bridge on the casting of wet joint concrete between the old and new bridges owing to the running traffic. Typically, the bridge is closed to traffic during the pouring of wet joint concrete, which negatively affects the existing transportation network. In this study, a newly developed microscopic traffic load modeling approach and the vehicle-bridge interaction theory are incorporated to develop a refined numerical framework for the analysis of random traffic-bridge coupled dynamics. This framework was used to investigate traffic-induced vibrations at the wet joint of a widened bridge. Based on an experimental study on the vibration resistance of wet joint concrete, traffic control strategies were proposed to ensure the construction performance of cast-in-site wet joint concrete under random traffic without interruption. The results show that the vibration displacement and frequency of the old bridge, estimated by the proposed framework, were comparable with those obtained from field measurements. Based on the target peak particle velocity and vibration amplitude of the wet joint concrete, it was found that traffic control measures, such as limiting vehicle gross weight and limiting traffic volume by closing an additional traffic lane, could ensure the construction performance of the wet joint concrete.

  • One of the most important issues in designing a network and realizing a service is dealing with traffic characteristics. Recent experimental research on LAN, WAN, and VBR traffic properties has highlighted that real traffic specificities can not be displayed because the current models based on the Poisson assumption under estimate the long range dependency of network traffic and self-similar peculiarities. Therefore, a new approach using self-similarity characteristics as a real traffic model was recently developed. In This paper we discusses the definition of self-similarity traffic. Moreover, real traffic was collected and we generated self-similar data traffic like real traffic to background load. On the existing ABR congestion control algorithm transmission throughput with the representative ERICA, EPRCA and NIST switch algorithm show the efficient reaction about the burst traffic.

  • 최근 급속히 증가하는 데이터 트래픽을 지원할 수 있도록 네트웍을 관리해야 할 뿐만 아니라 안정적인 인프라를 유지하기 위해 트래픽 엔지니어링을 지원할 수 있는 MPLS가 필요하게 되었다. 트래픽 엔지니어링은 대규모 사용자가 트래픽을 네트웍 상의 특정 노드를 지나는 사전 지정된 경로로 이동시키는 방법으로 트래픽 플로우를 물리적인 네트웍 토폴로지에 매핑시키는 작업이라고 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존 RSVP의 트래픽 엔지니어링의 단점을 보완하고 보다 안정된 인프라를 구축하기 위해 ERSVP 시그널링 프로토콜에 대한 진화방향을 제시하고져 한다.

An Accurate Method to Estimate Traffic Matrices from Link Loads for QoS Provision

  • Effective traffic matrix estimation is the basis of efficient traffic engineering, and therefore, quality of service provision support in IP networks. In this study, traffic matrix estimation is investigated in IP networks and an Elman neural network-based traffic matrix inference (ENNTMI) method is proposed. In ENNTMI, the conventional Elman neural network is modified to capture the spatio-temporal correlations and the time-varying property, and certain side information is introduced to help estimate traffic matrix in a network accurately. The regular parameter is further introduced into the optimal equation. Thus, the highly ill-posed nature of traffic matrix estimation is overcome effectively and efficiently.

  • 트래픽 엔지니어링(Traffic Engineering)은 트래픽을 네트워크 전체에 가능한 균등히 분배하여 사용자들이 원하는 서비스 품질을 보장해주면서 동시에 네트워크 자원의 활용도를 극대화시키는 기술이다. 트래픽 엔지니어링의 주요 목적은 트래픽 레벨과 자원 레벨에서 네트워크의 성능을 향상시키는 것인데, 이것은 네트워크 자원을 경제적으로 그리고 신뢰성 있게 이용하면서 트래픽에 관련된 성능 요구사항을 만족해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 IP/WDM 트래픽 엔지니어링을 구현하기 위한 두 가지 모델에 대해서 비교 분석하고 마지막으로 IP/WDM 트래픽 엔지니어링의 기능 구조에 대해서 설명한다.

  • The traffic congestion caused by the exploding increase of vehicles became one of the severest social problems. Among the various approaches to solve this problem, controlling the length of traffic signals appropriately according to the individual traffic situation would be the most plausible and cost-effective method. To design a traffic signal controller which has such a property as adaptive decision-making process, we adopt fuzzy logic control method(fuzzy traffic signal controller), Moreover, using genetic algorithms we obtain an optimized fuzzy traffic signal controller (GA-fuzzy traffic signal controller). To evaluate and validate the proposed fuzzy and GA-fuzzy traffic signal controller, simulation results are presented.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm to effectively detect the traffic lights and recognize the traffic signals using a monocular camera mounted on the front windshield glass of a vehicle in day time. The algorithm consists of three main parts. The first part is to generate the candidates of a traffic light. After conversion of RGB color model into HSI and YCbCr color spaces, the regions considered as a traffic light are detected. For these regions, edge processing is applied to extract the borders of the traffic light. The second part is to divide the candidates into traffic lights and non-traffic lights using Haar-like features and Adaboost algorithm. The third part is to recognize the signals of the traffic light using a template matching. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm successfully detects the traffic lights and recognizes the traffic signals in real time in a variety of environments.
