사상(四象) 체질별(體質別) 약재(藥材) 분류(分類)에 관한 연구(硏究)(소음인편(少陰人編)) (A Research on the Classification of Herbal Medicines based on the Sasang Constitution (Soeumin Part))

  • We analyzed 57 types of herbal medicines for Soeumin, clinically applied in Dongyisoosebowon. In order co discover the standard of herbal classification for the Sasang Constitutions, four concepts of Sasang Medicine were applied. These included 'Sadangron (theory of four groups)', 'Seungganggaehap(ascending-descending and gathering-dispersing)', 'Pyorihanyoul(exterior-interior and hot-cold)', and 'Hyungchiaekmi(fragrance, smell, bodily fluid and taste)'. According to these analyzing methods of herbal properties, we have reached the following conclusions: 1. Lee Je-ma first established the physiology of the internal organs of the Sasang Constitutions through the understanding of constitutional pathology. Dr. Lee then classified herbal medicines into four constitutional groups by observing the herbal effects according to such perspective of organ physiology and pathology. 2. Among the Sasang concepts applied in the analysis of herbal properties based on the physiology and pathology of Sasang constitutions, 'Seungganggaehap (ascending-descending and gathering-dispersing)' was found to be the most useful. Meanwhile, 'Sadangron, (the theory of four groups - Spirit, Qi, Blood and Essence),' along with 'Pyorihanyoul (exterior-interior and hot-cold)' and 'Hyungchiaekmi (fragrance, smell, bodily fluid and taste)' were partially useful. 3. Herbal medicines for Soeumin are characterized by ascending energetics that protect the Yang Qi. The 'Exterior heat disease' is treated with herbal medicines that raise the "Exterior Yang" in three different way: by tonifying Qi. by tonifying Blood and by releasing exterior. The 'Interior cold disease' is treated with herbal medicines that descend "Interior Yin" in two ways. One by warming the stomach, and the other by regulating Qi. 4. Cases where a whole category of herbs with the same effect have been applied co one constitution, are most frequent among Shaoyin herbs. There was an intimate connection between the treatment methods and the traditional effects of herbs for 'Soewnin'. These discoveries allowed us to see that the development of the pharmacology of the Sasang Constitutional pathology more progressed in 'Soeumin'. *analysing simple herbs of "DongEuiBoGam JangBu" we compare JangBu of traditional oriental medicine with JangBu of Sasang Constitutional Medicine. So we can comprehend the JangBu's difference of traditional-oriental with sasang-constitional medicine.

  • The review of the literature had been done to investigate the mechanism of the herbal medicines contained in traditional Korean medical books. We had thought the results could provide the theoretical basis of adding herbal medicies to functional drink. This study is a document research in cluding a historical review of traditional beverages from after the period of the Joseon Dynasty, analysis of the characteristics of tradition the herbal medicine of the Joseon entered the new stage at the era of King Sejong. In the reign of Sejong, there had been a noticeable increase in kinds of herbs. Besides understanding the quality of herbs by provinces, the Joseon government also had pushed ahead with increase policy of herbs. The more the standard of living and incomes have increased, the more the concern of our health has been raised. This social phenomenon has affected on the food& beverage industry. The food& beverage industry of Korea has been already reorganized like the ones in developed countries in the early 21st century. Consumers are particular choosing their beverages; they concern their health, convenience, and taste more than ever. We had selected several herbal medicines contained in functional drink, and investigated the mechanism in field of oriental medicine and pharmacology.

천연물로부터 항암면역증강물질 탐색연구 (Screening of Antineoplastic Immunomodulator from Herbal Medicines)

  • Currently, cancer is the primary cause of death and 50% of cancer patients are incurable by surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Therefore, immunotherpy is interested as the fourth remedy. Biological response modifier (BRM), such as organometallic compounds, glycoproteins, polysaccharides and other natural products. Is the one which can enhance the immune response against cancer cell. To develop new BRM from natural sources, we investigated 63 species Korean traditional medicines by observing the mitogenic activity to splenocytes, generation of activated killer cells and activation of macrophages. Finally, we selected 9 species including Angelicae gigantis Radix, Mori Cortex Radicis, Arisaematis Tuber, Salviae Radix, Cnidii Rhizoma, Ligusti Fructus, Pasoraliae Semen, Loranthi Ramulus, Ginseng Radix. Bioassay-guided fractionation and purification is undergoing.

한의서에 기재된 광물(鑛物) 약재 및 아토피피부염 활용 외용성 광물(鑛物) 약재 (Mineral Medicine Described in the Oriental Medicine Book and Mineral Medicines Applicable to Atopic Dermatitis Treatment)

  • 본 조사에서 사용된 중국 본초도감(本草圖鑑)에서는 총 93종의 광물성 약재가 보고되었고, 동의보감(東醫寶鑑)에서는 총 77종이 수재되었는데, 토부(토부) 18종, 옥부(玉部) 4종, 석부(석부) 55종으로 나누어 기술되었으며, 현재 전국한의과대학 교재인 본초학(本草學)에서는 23종이 수재되었다. 이 중 아토피피부염 외용제로 활용 가능한 약물은 동의보감(東醫寶鑑)에서는 주사(朱砂), 반석(礬石), 녹반(綠礬, 靑礬), 웅황(雄黃), 자황(雌黃), 석류황(石硫黃, 崑崙黃), 석회(石灰, 惡灰) 등 7종이 선별되었고, 本草圖鑑에서 15종으로 東醫寶鑑에서 선별된 광물약재 7종과 활석(滑石), 경분(輕粉), 연단(鉛丹), 노감석(爐甘石), 석(錫), 수은(水銀), 밀타승(密陀僧), 은주(銀朱) 등이 선별되었다. 本草學에서는 석고(石膏), 망초(芒硝), 활석(滑石), 주사(朱砂), 유황(硫黃), 비석(砒石), 웅황(雄黃), 경분(輕粉), 연단(鉛丹), 노감석(爐甘石), 붕사(硼砂), 금박(金箔), 한수석(寒水石) 등 14종이 선별되었다. 전반적으로 한의학적 이론인 이독치독(以毒治毒)에 의해 독성이 있는 약물이 대부분을 차지하고 있어, 매우 정교한 독성제거 방식 즉 수치 방식을 통한 독성제거를 실시한 후 사용되었다. 따라서 약물로 사용하는 경우 비독성 약물을 제외한 독성 약물은 현대적 방식에 의해 독성제거를 어떻게 것인가에 대한 논의가 필요할 것으로 보인다. 이 밖의 주요성분 또는 많은 함량을 가진 화합물 위주로 분류한 광물약재 역시 유의적인 결과 도출이 있을 수 있어 다양한 실험 및 분석기법을 통하여 효능 평가가 이루어질 경우 아토피피부염뿐만 아니라 염증성 질환에 광범위하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

INHIBITORY ACTION OF PROCESSED HERBAL MEDICINES ON THE PRODUCTION OF ADVANCED GLYCATION ENDPRODUCTS(AGEs)

  • Diabetic nephropathy is major chronic complication of diabetes mellitus. Advanced glycation endproducts(AGEs) are largely involved in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy. The irreversibly formed AGEs do not return to normal even if hyperglycemia is corrected and continue to accumulate over the lifetime of protein. The AGEs inhibitor. aminoguanidine(AG), is the only protein glycation inhibitor currently under development. its safety however is desirable. To find possible AGEs inhibitor in herbal medicines, bovine serum albumin was added to a mixture of sugars and some of processed. unprocessed herbal medicines or AG. Cyperi rhizoma was processed in four different methods according to chinese pharmacopoeia and traditional literatures. In comparision to the negative control with no inhibitor and positive control with AG. alcoholic extracts of these processed cyperi rhizoma proved to have more potent inhibitory activities than that of unprocessed cyperi rhizoma. These results revealed that some processed herbal medicines have a more potent in vitro inhibitory action on AGEs formation than AG. suggesting the possible candidate for diabetic nephropathy from the processed herbal medicines.

Emodin-Provoked Oxidative Stress Induces Apoptosis in Human Colon Cancer HCT116 Cells through a p53-Mitochondrial Apoptotic Pathway

  • Emodin, a natural anthraquinone isolated from the traditional Chinese medicine Radix rhizoma Rhei, can induce apoptosis in many kinds of cancer cells. This study demonstrated that emodin induces apoptosis in human colon cancer HCT116 cells by provoking oxidative stress, which subsequently triggers a p53-mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. Emodin induced mitochondrial transmembrane potential loss, increase in Bax and decrease in Bcl-2 expression and mitochondrial translocation and release of cytochrome c to cytosol in HCT116 cells. In response to emodin-treatment, ROS increased rapidly, and subsequently p53 was overexpressed. Pretreatment with the antioxidant NAC diminished apoptosis and p53 overexpression induced by emodin. Transfecting p53 siRNA also attenuated apoptosis induced by emodin, Bax expression and mitochondrial translocation being reduced compared to treatment with emodin alone. Taken together, these results indicate that ROS is a trigger of emodin-induced apoptosis in HCT116 cells, and p53 expression increases under oxidative stress, leading to Bax-mediated mitochondrial apoptosis.

곤충 생약으로부터 항응고 및 항혈전 물질의 탐색 (Evaluation of Anticoagulant and Fibrinolytic Activities from Crude Extracts of Insects)

  • The in vitro anticoagulant and fibrinolytic activities of crude extract from insects which have been used as traditional medicines. The extracts of Formica, Huechys and Eupolyph-aga/Steleophaga prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time and thrombin time compared to the value of the control. The fibrinolytic activity of insect extracts was also tested by fibrin plate method. We found that the extracts of Cicadae Periostracum, Eupolyphaga/Steleophdga, Mantidis $O{\ddot{o}}otheca$ and Huechys directly could hydrolyze the fibrin clot without the activation of plasminogen by plasminogen activators.

무동무언증과 인지기능장애를 주소로 하는 급성 백질뇌증 환자 치험 1례 (A Case of Acute Leukoencephalopathy Patient with Akinetic Mutism and Cognitive Dysfunctions)

  • This case report presents a 34-year-old female patient. Her chief complaints are akinetic mutism and cognitive dysfunctions. We have diagnosed her with leukoencephalopathy. She was treated with Korean traditional herbal medicines (Joojackwhan) for 33 days continuously. The effects of treatment were measured by the Korean Mini - Mental State Examination and Modified Bathel Index. After treatment, her chief complaints have been improved. Furthermore, the K-MMSE, MBI scores increased. From this case, we deduced that the Korean traditional herbal medicines (Joojackwhan) could be effective for cognitive dysfunctions and akinetic mutism caused by leukoencephalopathy.

『제중입효방(濟衆立效方)』에 관한 의사학적 고찰 - 교효산(交效散)을 중심으로 - (Historical study of 濟衆入效方 -focusing on 交效散)

  • "濟衆立效方" is the oldest Koryo dynasty medical document known to date. Despite its historical importance, due to the absence of its original copy, its true characters could not be understood. Through comparison of the many documents that cited 濟衆立效方, it could be found that 濟衆立效方 can be classified into two parts based on its contents and form. In Chinese medical texts, neither the name 交效散 nor any similar prescription is mentioned. 濟衆立效方 was the first in suggesting the usage of pine needles and salt for fomentation and not for internal use. Thus 交效散 can be thought of as the oldest indigenous prescription preserved in Korean history. 濟衆立效方 conveys records of the combination of the ancient origin pine needle fomentation and the creative addition of salt.

The Chemokine SDF-1α Suppresses Fibronectin-mediated In Vitro Lymphocytes Adhesion

  • Stromal cell-derived factor (SDF-1) is a CXC chemokine that selectively activates the CXCR4 chemokine receptor. Fibronectin is an intracellular matrix component that binds integrin and mediates cell-matrix adhesion. Activation of the integrin receptor can occur in two ways: by ligand binding (outside-in signaling), and in response to intracellular events (inside-out signaling). In the current study we showed that SDF-$1{\alpha}$ inhibited adhesion of T lymphocyte Jurkat cells resulting from binding high concentrations of fibronectin as well as that of THP-1 monocytes. The effect of SDF-$1{\alpha}$ on fibronectin-mediated adhesion was partly reversed by the CXCR4 receptor antagonist T140. Our results suggest that an SDF-1/CXCR4 signal pathway modulates fibronectin-mediated lymphocytes adhesion.
