Purpose: This study aims to utilize geographic data to analyze how various retail formats of large-scale stores around the traditional market affect the performance of the traditional market in Seoul, Korea. Research design, data, and methodology: The two types of catchment areas were demarcated (circle of 1km radius and Thiessen polygon) for each traditional market, and the large-scale stores located within each catchment area were identified for 153 traditional markets in Seoul, Korea. Additionally, multiple regression analysis was utilized. Results: The results revealed that the influence on the performance of the traditional markets were different depending on the retail format of the large-scale stores. Large discount stores were found to have a negative effect on the sales and the visitors of traditional markets, whereas complex shopping malls and department stores had a positive effect on the traditional markets. Conclusions: As a result of the differences in the retail format such as product categories and leisure functions, the impact of some large-scale stores on the traditional market may have a greater agglomeration effect than the consumer churn effect. Therefore, it is suggested that in the regulation of these large-scale stores, the differences in retail format should be considered for the future.
Purpose - This study aimed to explore and examine the government policies and supporting systems of the traditional market in Korea. Research design / data / methodology - Recognizing these problems, the Korean government enacted three special legislations and adopted six support policies in support of the traditional markets. Results - Those markets with modernized stores, parking lots, and arcades have certainly increased sales and the number of customers. However, this uniform modernization support policy was short of supporting strategies that could have developed characteristics and advantages of each market, so many markets and merchants lost self-sustainable ability and ended up with relying on government support. Conclusions - The study indicates that Small & Medium Business Administration's role in implementing government policies including selection of the markets that needed to be modernized, developing commercial areas in connection with traditional market and neighboring shopping streets, customizing and improving distribution system, developing specialty stores, merchant college, merchants' self-sustainable ability, and creating convenient and safe shopping environment is vital to traditional markets' future success.
The result of efforts for the revitalization of traditional market have not been satisfied. The purpose of this study was to suggest implications on planning and design method for revitalization of the traditional market in Korean cities. For that, theoretical review and case analysis were conducted on public spaces in 'Quincy Market' and 'Granville Island Public Market'. The results of case analysis are as follows. (1) The various spaces and facilities that make up the traditional market show a synergistic effect through linkage. (2) Various public spaces for traditional market users have been made in market buildings and open spaces. (3) Food and beverages sold in traditional markets can be eaten in public spaces, and meetings, breaks, performances and events are held in public spaces. (4) A company or non-profit organization with unified executive power is in charge of or participating in market operation.
Objectives: This research aims to know the current status and prospect of traditional medical market to provide sources in setting a development strategy and making a policy on the traditional medicine Methods: This research categorized 11,611 clinics registered in telephone directory as of 2008 by region and some clinics were extracted with simple random method. The inquiry was made with questionnaires and analyzed on the base of frequency. Results: 1. The number of the employee in a clinic were slightly decreased from 2.9 in 2005 and 2006 to 2.8 in 2007. That of the patients also showed a downward tendency from 11,811 in 2005 through 11,716 in 2006 to 11,344 in 2007. 2. An annual turnover in a clinic amounted to 257 million won in 2007 from 232 million won in 2005 through 245 million won in 2006. 3. Approximately 92% of the responses made a negative diagnosis on the traditional medical market and 21% of responses indicated the overall economic recession as a primary reason in their opinions. 4. About 29% of responses presented the extension of medical insurance on traditional medicine as a prior policy. Conclusions: Based on the survey, the prospect of traditional medical market is positive, but the effort of the people in traditional medical system and the systematic support from government are required to activate the stagnated traditional medical market.
Purpose - Statistics of Traditional Market is the only source of information on traditional markets, shopping street, and underground shopping street. The government conducts a survey of traditional market conditions every year to look at the current status of traditional markets and provide effective support. Therefore, this study examines the necessity and validity of updating about the Survey Population of Traditional Market Research design, data, and methodology - This study investigated the necessity of updating about the Survey Population of Traditional Market through literature review. Therefore this study examined the necessity of the current population based on the review of the population related to the sample design, methods, and the sampling frame. Next, we examined the change patterns of the population and the sample by dividing the population and sample of the current survey of the traditional market survey into the market unit, the store unit within the market, and finally the individual store unit. Results - As a result, the population of traditional market changes about 4~6%. Next, the analysis of the store unit in the market shows that the number of stores is very variable even though the market is continuously included in the survey target. Finally, as a result of examining the characteristics of individual stores, the stores with less than one year were more than 6% of the total surveyed stores based on the traditional market. These results are generally inconsistent with the idea that stores in traditional markets will operate for a long time in one place. Next, we proposed the establishment of a management system, applying Citizen Generated Data, and circulation survey. Additionally, this study proposes to change the stratification variables at the regional level rather than the market unit. Conclusions - Therefore, in this study, it is suggested that a current population of traditional market is needed updating, and that a population survey should be updated at least four years. In addition, a system for investigating traditional markets and districts was established and a circulation survey was proposed for efficient use of budgets. Based on these research results and policy suggestions, the future research directions are suggested.

In this study, traditional markets were classified into two categories-urban or rural. This paper presents a case study of the Tongin market in Seoul and the Bongwha market in North Gyeongsang Province. Based on a survey of the customers and local residents in these markets, the peoples who have intention to show visitors around their traditional markets take more pride as local residents than peoples who do not have intention to show visitors around their traditional markets. This study includes surveys in 24 categories dealing with how local residents recognize the traditional market as regards local community, local culture and local economy. Consequently, the customers of the Tongin market and the Bongwha market had very strong expectations that their traditional markets would be popular with visitors. These surveys show that when these traditional markets were reported in the press and media, the satisfaction level of local residents was very high. Most of the respondents said that the more the local traditional market develops, the more the region develops. And, most of the respondents said that all local residents have to cooperate to develop a traditional market. To promote traditional markets that can revitalize communities, marketplaces need to be regarded as places that contain human life. In addition, there needs to a cultural and humane perspective brought to the fore. To conclude, the most effective way to solve the problem of traditional markets is to make them even more traditional.
Depending on the changing business environment in the traditional markets are experiencing a lot of difficulties. In order to enable traditional markets has been to the brink of a variety of studies in progress. Accordingly, the government has a budget to support the massive effort to modernize its traditional markets. However, traditional market is changing, but the bottom line is the actual appearance of solving performance was still little. Based on these issues, awareness of the current research conducted in this desirable market and the traditional market for the traditional differences in the recognition of the discovery. Recognition of these differences based on the traditional attractions market direction and composition of the present strategy.

This study was undertaken to identify success factors of traditional market delivery apps and lead digital transformation of traditional markets. The success factors of traditional market delivery apps are represented by four variables: system characteristics of the app, delivery, products, and responsibility towards customer responses. These factors were analyzed to examine their impact on the operations performance. Data was collected by surveying 148 traditional market business owners. Results of the empirical analysis revealed that the app system characteristics, delivery characteristics, and product sales promotion, impart a significant effect on the operations performance. Conversely, the customer response characteristics showed no significant effects. This could be because some apps lack the function to check customer reviews and respond appropriately. Currently, where traditional market delivery apps are in the early stages of implementation and are gradually expanding, data obtained from this study helps to identify characteristics of traditional market delivery apps, and offers suggestions to create development indicators of the traditional market delivery apps by analyzing their effects on operational performance, thereby contributing to the revival of traditional markets through digital transformation.
Purpose - A traditional retail market is a place that offers economic opportunity to employees and employers alike it also is a place where the community can meet. The Korean government has invested three trillion won to improve physical and non-physical aspects in traditional retail markets since 2004. However, little research on this has been conducted. We explore this research gap that could lead to theory extension. We analyze consumption behavior with respect to traditional retail markets through an empirical analysis, thus overcoming limits in previous research. We empirically analyze policy effects of traditional retail market projects supported by the Korean government. Research design, data, and methodology - We propose a traditional retail market improvement plan via the relation between cause and effect resulting from the analysis. More specifically, logit analysis was carried out with 1,754 consumers in 16 cities nationwide. In order to analyze consumer consumption behaviors nationwide, the probability was analyzed using a logit model. This research analyzes the link between support and non-support by the Korean government using binary values. The dependent variable is whether Korean government support is implemented; the binomial logistic regression is used as the statistical estimation technique. The object variables are:1 (support) or 0 (nonsupport), and the prediction value is between 1 and 0. As a result of the factor analysis of questions related to attributes of service quality, four factors were extracted: convenience, product, facilities, and service. Results - The results indicate that convenience, product, and facilities have a significant influence on consumer satisfaction in accordance with the government's traditional retail market support. Additionally, the results reveal that convenience, product, facilities, and service all have a significant influence on consumer satisfaction in a traditional retail market's service quality and consumer satisfaction. Finally, the analysis indicates that the highly satisfied traditional retail market customer has a significant influence on revisit intention. Moreover, the results reveal that the highly satisfied traditional retail market customer has a significant influence on recommendation intention. Conclusions - This research focused on consumers nationwide to measure policy effects of traditional retail markets compared to previous research that focused on one traditional retail market or a specific area. We verified the relationship of service quality and customer satisfaction and consumer behavior based on service quality theory. The results indicate that consumer satisfaction of traditional retail markets supported by service quality factors has a significant impact. In a concrete form, the results indicate that these effects are from facility modernization projects and marketing support projects of the Korean government. The results also imply that these facility and management support effects from the Korean government have been consistent. We realize that the Korean government has to selectively support traditional retail markets in major cities and small and medium-sized cities. To that end, the Korean government needs to select a concentration strategy for the revitalization of traditional retail markets.
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between customer trust and intention to return to the traditional market by using empirical analysis. Research design, data, and methodology - For the empirical analysis of this study, questionnaires were conducted for adults and over 20s. A total of 200 questionnaires were distributed to consumers with experience in traditional markets, and 163 of them were used for empirical analysis. In order to analyze the relationship between customer trust and return visit intention by consumers visiting the traditional market, variables were selected through 10 constructive concepts and revised based on previous studies. The SPSS for win 18.0 was used for data analysis. Results - In order to clarify the relationship between consumer's visit to traditional market and customer's trust, it was found that the tolerance values of both the visiting factors and the consumers' perceptions of traditional markets were higher than .01. In the relationship between visitor's visit to traditional market and customer's trust, price was positively related to customer trust at 0.1% level. Image, product quality and freshness of traditional market were 5% Positive effects were found. These results show that consumers who visit traditional markets gain customer's trust in price, image, product quality and reliability of traditional market. Conclusions - In this study, the results of this study are as follows: First, the effect of customer trust on customer satisfaction is affected by the image (emotion) consumers feel about traditional market, the trust level about the price of goods offered by the market, The confidence level of freshness, the reliability of consumers' connection with the local economy, the consumer's traditional marketplace, and the level of awareness of the service (kindness) of the variables on the independent variables. As a result of the analysis, it was found that among the influence variables of customer trust used in this study, consumers had a high level of confidence about the price of commodities offered by the market, quality of goods, and freshness, The same relationship, market environment such as hygiene or cleanliness, connection with a local economy, service (kindness) of traditional market did not affect consumers' trust in traditional markets.
