  • This paper presents a disturbance accommodating sliding mode control for a quarter-car active suspension using an electro-hydraulic actuator. The electro-hydraulic actuator model is nonlinear and uncertain. The hardware constrains on the actuator prevent high gain in a sliding mode control, which deteriorates the force tracking performance. DAC(Disturbance Accommodating Control) is combined with the sliding mode control to improve the tracking performance. DAC observer estimates the pressure due to the actuator uncertainty. The additional control is designed to compensate the estimated pressure. Simulation results show the improved tracking performance with the Proposed control methods.

  • This paper was studied on the surface discharge characteristics and tracking phenomena on the solid insulator in liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) at atmospheric pressure. In order to investigate the bubbles which have much influence on electric surface discharge in liquid nitrogen, Knife type electrode and plane electrode were arranged in different modes(Mode A, Mode B, and Mode C) and investigated for surface discharge and tracking phenomena. In Mode A, by the movement of bubbles tracking damage was formed under the electrodes. The tracking pattern in Mode B was formed along the electrode axis.

  • A position tracking control schemes on the precise mechanical system in presence of nonlinear dynamic friction is proposed. A nonlinear dynamic friction is regarded as the bristle friction model to compensate effects of friction. The conventional sliding mode controller often has been used as a non-model-based friction controller, but it has a poor tracking performance in high-precision position tracking application since it completely cannot compensate the friction effect below a certain precision level. Thus to improve the precise position tracking performance, we propose the sliding mode control method combined with the friction-model-based observer having tunable structure of the transient response. Then this control scheme has a good transient response as well as the high precise tracking performance compared with the conventional sliding mode control without observer and the control system with similar type of observer. The experiments on the bali-screw drive table with the nonlinear dynamic friction show the feasibility of the proposed control scheme.

  • In this paper, we implement a viewer program that can monitor effectively using omni-directional images. The program consists of four modes: Normal mode, ROI(Region of Interest) mode, Tracking mode, and Auto-rotation mode, and the results for each mode is displayed simultaneously. In the normal mode, the wide angle image is rendered as a spherical image to enable pan, tilt, and zoom. In ROI mode, the area is displayed expanded by selecting an area. And, in Auto-rotation mode, it is possible to track the object by mapping the position of the object with the rotation angle of the spherical image to prevent the object from deviating from the spherical image in Tracking mode. Parallel programming for processing of multiple modes is performed to improve the processing speed. This has the advantage that various angles can be seen compared with surveillance system having a limited angle of view.

  • Multi-target tracking is the main purpose of many video surveillance applications. Recently, multi-target tracking based on the particle filter method has achieved robust results by using the data association process. However, this method requires many calculations and it is inadequate for real time applications, because the number of associations exponentially increases with the number of measurements and targets. In this paper, to reduce the computational cost of the data association process, we propose a novel multi-target tracking method that excludes particle samples in the overlapped predictive region between the target to track and marginal targets. Moreover, to resolve the occlusion problem, we define an occlusion mode with the normal dynamic mode. When the targets are occluded, the mode is switched to the occlusion mode and the samples are propagated by Gaussian noise without the sampling process of the particle filter. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness of the proposed multi-target tracking method even in occlusion.

  • In this paper, a higher-order mode coupler using coaxial-structure waveguide for Ku-band monopulse satellite tracking is proposed. The proposed higher-order mode coupler is built in a coaxial structure for compactness and weight reduction, making it suitable for mobile tracking systems. The inner circular waveguide of coaxial-structure is used to extract the fundamental mode signal and the high-order mode signal is extracted from the four slots of the outer circular waveguide and then transmitted via given stepped rectangular waveguide structure. The simulated results show that proposed higher-order mode coupler covers 250 MHz(12.75 GHz ~ 13.00 GHz) bandwidth with return loss and insertion loss characteristics. The antenna patterns of fundamental mode and higher-order mode applicable to monopulse tracking are generated successfully. Designed higher-order mode coupler using coaxial waveguide structure for Ku-band is expected to be used for high precision monopulse satellite tracking systems.

  • It is well known that the model of nuclear reactors features natural nonlinearity, and variable parameters during power tracking operation. In this paper, a disturbance observer-based adaptive sliding mode control (DOB-ASMC) strategy is proposed for power tracking of the pressurized-water reactor (PWR) in the presence of lumped disturbances. The nuclear reactor model is firstly established based on point-reactor kinetics equations with six delayed neutron groups. Then, a new sliding mode disturbance observer is designed to estimate the lumped disturbance, and its stability is discussed. On the basis of the developed DOB, an adaptive sliding mode control scheme is proposed, which is a combination of backstepping technique and integral sliding mode control approach. In addition, an adaptive law is introduced to enhance the robustness of a PWR with disturbances. The asymptotic stability of the overall control system is verified by Lyapunov stability theory. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate that the proposed DOB-ASMC strategy has better power tracking performance than conventional sliding mode controller and PID control method as well as conventional backstepping controller.

  • In this Paper, the moving image is detected by a collision preventive system. The noise of these images is reduced by a mean filter. In case of detecting a movement with a binary difference image the moving area is detected exactly by the labeling and the projective method. When the image move slowly with the tracking mode of the system, the center of the tracking window move to the previous tracking window. And the tracking windows are divided into a tracking mode and a coasting mode which are determine by the Contrast-Difference Correlation of the date obtained from a difference image. The coasting mode determine whether continue the tracking step or not comparing the coasting-time values to reducing the error by the disturbance. The coasting and tracking of these moving images are verified by the result of the simulation.

  • Nonlinear pulse width modulation (PWM) controlled system is considered to achieve control performance of thruster controlled spacecraft. The actual PWM controlled motions occur, very closely, around the average model trajectory. Furthermore nonlinear PWM controller design can be directly applied to thruster controlled spacecraft to determine thruster on-time. Sliding mode control for attitude tracking of three-axis thruster-controlled spacecraft is presented. Simulation results are shown which use modified Rodrigues parameters and sliding mode control law to achieve attitude tracking of a three-axis spacecraft with thrusters.
