Acquired tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) can occur rarely from various causes. Recently, cuff-related tracheal injury after endotracheal intubation with the orotracheal tube and tracheostomy cannula is the most common etiology of nonmalignant TEF. Since cuff-related TEF is usually preventable with proper selection of the cuffed tube and close monitoring of cuff pressure. Although most patients present increased secretions, recurrent pneumonia, or coughing after swallowing, a high index of suspicion is required in patients at risk for developing a TEF. Surgical correction for the defectis required. In most cases, primary closure of the esophageal defect and tracheal resection and end-to-end anastomosis give the best results.
A 14-year-old castrated male Persian cat presented with a 2-week history of respiratory difficulty. On physical examination, the patient showed intermittent open-mouth breathing and thoracic auscultation revealed wheezing. Thoracic radiographs revealed a narrowed upper airway and pulmonary infiltration. Computed tomography detected a mass occluding the lumen of the trachea at the level of the entrance to the thorax, a mass causing right main bronchus stenosis, and a nodule on the right caudal lung lobe. Bronchoalveolar lavage cytology tentatively diagnosed a carcinoma. Tracheal mass resection was performed through tracheostomy. Histopathology confirmed the presence of tracheobronchial carcinoma. The survival time after diagnosis was 10 months, during which time the cat underwent tracheostomy, debulking by endotracheal tube, and tracheal stent placement procedures in combination with toceranib phosphate adjuvant chemotherapy.
The extent of resection and release of the trachea is important for successful anastomosis. Bilateral bronchial dissection is one of the release techniques for resection of the lower trachea. We present the experience of cervical video-assisted mediastinoscopic bilateral bronchial release for long segmental resection and anastomosis of the lower trachea.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of coblation resection for the treatment of laryngotracheal disease. Methods : We conducted a retrospective review, evaluating 7 patients with laryngotracheal disease treated using coblator. Information collected included demographic data of the patients, diagnosis, size and location of the disease, procedure time, the number of previous operation, and the postoperative complication. Results : Among the etiology, granulation is most frequent (n=4), followed by recurrent repiratory papillomatosis (n=2) and tracheal stenosis (n=1). The location of lesions was peristomal area (n=2), glottis (n=2), subglottis (n=2) and mid-trachea. Coblation resection could remove the lesions completely and there was no significant complication including local burn, bleeding, and hypertrophic scar. The procedure time was shorter than the previous operation using $CO_2$ laser. Conclusion : Coblation resection is an effective and safe method for layngotracheal disease and can substitute the classic method such as $CO_2$ laser.
We report 22 cases of well -differentiated thyroid carcinoma infiltrating the upper airway tract. This retrospective study was undertaken to evaluate the prognosis md to determine optimal therapy for thyroid carcinoma adhering to or invading the trachea or larynx from 1984.3 to 1996.12. The treatment was individualized depending on the extent of the cancer. There were 12 cases dissected free by an laryngotracheal shaving, 7 cases removed by an tracheal resection with end to end anastomosis, 3 cases removed by an total laryngectomy. In all of these cases, we performed a total thyroidectomy with an accompanying neck dissection. There were no major complications during the operation. Over the 5-years observation period, 11 patients are alive without a sign of recurrence, 4 Patients are alive with recurrence, 7 died of thyroid carcinoma; 2 of 12 in an laryngotracheal shaving cases, 2 of 7 in an tracheal resection with end to end anastomosis case, 3 of 3 in an total laryngectomy case. The result showed an radical operation for thyroid carcinoma invading the laryngotrachea improves the survival rate, but limits improving the cure rate, and the invasion of the thrchea or larynx must be treated whenever possible by an total resection followed by radioiodine and external beam radiation.

The treatment of choice for post-intubation tracheal stenosis is partial tracheal resection and end-to-end ana-stomosis. The surgical treatment of tracheal restenosis that results from unsuccessful repair of post-intubation tracheal stenosis is not easy. Failed reoperation results in permanent tracheostomy and loss of voice. If the first operation fails, about $4\~6$ months of period for resolution of inflammatory reaction, edema, and fibrosis is needed. The exact evaluation of the patient's status is necessary and success rate of reoperation for the appropriate candidates is over $90\%$. We report the results of treatment in two cases of tracheal restenosis that resulted from unsuccessful repair of post-intubation tracheal stenosis with review of literatures.
Myoepithelioma is a benign tumor composed of sheets and islands of various proportion of spindle, plasmacytoid, epitheloid, and clear cells. We are reporting of a 38-year-old woman with an extremely rare neoplasm of the trachea, myoepithelioma. The patient had an right neck mass and diagnosed presumptively as the thyroid tumor with tracheal invasion. Resection and anastomosis of the trachea with partial thyroidectomy was done. The tumor was a well circumscribed mass with solid growth pattern and composed of spindle and epitheloid cells, which were positive for S-100 protein and smooth muscle actin. In electron microscopy, a large amount of microfilaments in the cytoplasm and layers of basement membrane-like materials in the intercellular spaces were observed, which are characteristics of myoepithelioma. Patient has been well for 8 months postoperatively.
; A 15 years old girl was operated due to tuberculous paratracheal lymph node enlargement resulted in marked narrowing of lower part of trachea. She had suffered from sputum expectoration difficulty, which was developed dyspnea and cyanosis. 1st operation was simple removal of enlarged paratracheal lymph node through Rt. thoracotomy but restenosis sign developed 2 months later in spite of Anti-Tbc. medication. 2nd operation was resection of constricted tracheal portion [2.5cm] 8 end to end anastomosis under Extra Corporeal Circulation. Under Extra Corporeal Circulation trachea reconstruction offered many conveniences during operation. Till now, she has been follow up checked for one year, she was very good post-operation state without any restenosis signs.

Chronic invasive aspergillosis is a life-threatening disease, especially in immunocompromised patients. The diagnosis and treatment of tracheal aspergillosis (TA) are challenging because of its rarity and nonspecific clinical presentations. The treatment standard of TA has been medical treatment like other forms of invasive aspergillosis, but patients with medically resistant TA require surgical intervention. We demonstrated a successful surgical outcome of chronic invasive TA in a 16-year-old patient with immunocompromised status related to acute myelocytic leukemia.

The complications of endotracheal intubation are inevitable, of which postintubation tracheal stenosis may be required for surgical resection with primary reconstruction. Before surgery, several less invasive therapeutic modalites including bougie dilatation, stenting, and Nd-YAG laser incision are still available in use. Especially, good results were noted in selected patients with lengthy scars of less than 1cm and without tracheomalacia using endoscopic laser incision and dilatation. We report a case of a 54 yr-old woman with postintubation tracheal stenosis who was successfully treated by endoscopic Nd-YAG laser incision and esophageal balloon catheter.
