  • Before COVID-19, tourist destinations have experienced problems with congestion of both famous tourist attractions and public transportation. Over-tourism is not an issue at this time, but it is likely to rekindle after the COVID-19 pandemic ends. One method of mitigating over-tourism is to estimate tourist behavior using a tourist transition model and consequently adjust public transportation operations. In this study, we propose a construction method for a model of tourist transitions among tourist attractions based on tourist GPS trajectory data. We construct tourist transition models using actual trajectory data for tourists staying in the vicinity of Kyoto City. The results verify the model performance.

  • This study aims to test the interrelationship among perceived value, tourist satisfaction, quality of life, and tourist loyalty in an Indonesian tourist adventure destination. The respondents were recruited from Bromo Mountain, East-Java Province, Indonesia. For this study, 250 questionnaires were distributed, of which 240 could be used for analysis, yielding a response rate of 96%. Data was analyzed using Partial Least Squares with smartPLS 3 software. Both outer model and inner model evaluation were conducted to ensure the robustness of the proposed model. The findings showed that perceived value does not have a direct significant effect on tourist loyalty. However, tourist satisfaction and quality of life have significant effects on tourist loyalty. The mediating effect test indicated that tourist satisfaction and quality of life significantly mediated the effect of perceived value on tourist loyalty. The multi-group analysis test found that the demographic factor does not have any influence. By accomplishing its research objectives, this study provides both theoretical and practical contributions. From a theoretical standpoint, this study provides a comprehensive conceptual model in explaining Indonesia adventure tourist loyalty. From a practical standpoint, this study offers recommendations to adventure tourism management to enhance the sustainability of the tourism destination, especially the adventure tourism destination.

In the location of the tourist function, there is all the difference between sea or land. Because sea and land are a remarkable contrast in physical condition and tourist activity space. Consequently, the basic types of the tourist location are sea-oriented, land-oriented, sea land-oriented. A model of tourist satisfactioin process is developed based based on the confirmation / disconfirmation which is originated from consumer behavior literature. Three elements of the model include 'expectation','performance', and 'discrepancy between expectation and performance'. 340 questionnaires were delivered to find Everland visitors' perceptions of the determinants of tourist satisfaction. LISREL 8.14 was used to analyze the interaction among the determinants. The results are as follows : 1) 'expectation' has indirect effect on tourist satisfaction while 'performance' and 'discrepancy' has direct effect on the tourist satisfaction, 2) two precedent variables such as 'expectation' and 'performance' have indirect effect on the satisfaction through 'discrepancy',3) among the three determinants it is found that 'performance' is the most effective determinant of tourist satifaction, and 4) the model which was composed from the aspect of 'travel cost' was more effective to describing tourist satisfacton rather that from the aspect of 'service quality'.

  • Korean tourist areas are designated/managed in accordance with the Tourism Promotion Act. Since Taejongdae was designated as a tourist area in 1969, a total of 230 tourist areas have been designated/built/operated. It has been 46 years since the first tourist area was designated. According to the Tourism Area Life Cycle by Butler, it is estimated that the flow of the life cycle will be reflected in ups and downs over time. Thus, this study aimed to provide basic data for suggesting the direction of changes and development of the future tourist areas after analyzing the life cycle stage of domestic tourist areas, by applying the Tourism Area Life Cycle by Butler. The research method was based on the tourist areas by year, the number of visitors, and data of the target to derive the change transition curve, obtained by dividing the life cycle stages of the tourist areas based on the visitor rate of change. In the analysis results, more than 1/3 of domestic tourist areas are reaching the stagnation/decline stage, and tourist areas such as hot springs and seaside/beach resources show a particularly high ratio of stagnation/decline. The tourist areas that already have reached the stagnation/decline stage will need to analyze the causes for the decline, seek for resolution measures, and introduce new innovative elements. Even though the results of this study are not sufficient to be used as an absolute standard to decide the life cycle stage of domestic tourist areas, it is considered to be adequate for phenomenologically understanding the life cycle stage of Korean tourist areas. Based on this study, the causes for the stagnation/decline of tourist areas can be revealed while it can be also used as basic research to establish revitalization measures for tourist areas by introducing new innovation.

  • This research is written for offering an approach to activate the stagnated industry of the tourist farm through analysis of the current operational problems and situation on some existing tourist farm nominated as such by the authority. There will be some considerations from three different categories : local autonomous groups, tourist farm associations and farm owners. On the other hand, it is assumed that this research can also be utilized as a basic material for activating the tourist farms in the suburban area of Taegu City. The operational problems in the suburban area of Taegu City are as follows : lack of a specialized Product development, the farm operation fund, lack of operational or management ability, lack of public information, etc. There are other Problems regarding law, institution and supporting : complexity of the current system involving all kinds of permission, shortage of financial and taxation supporting, lack of training an expert manpower, lack of ability and cooperation of a deskclerk in charge, etc. Here are some suggestions taking into consideration a respective sector of local autonomous group, tourist farm associations and farm owners for activating the tourist farms in the suburban area of Taegu City. First, a mental turnabout toward a tourist farm is needed from local autonomous groups. The law and institutional base should be arranged while the financial and taxation support is materialized. Second, tourist farm associations should amend or reinforce the existing institution to refresh the current recognition toward the tourist farm through many publicity activities. On the other hand, they should develop the overall tourist farm industry into a better service industry of the rural community by keeping an active system of cooperation with other related groups. Finally, It is advised that they should conceive farms and facilities which can symbolize the tourist farm from the stage of the first construction. In addition to a four-season souvenir development, an effective publicity activity and rational investment management. Above all, they should train themselves in terms of a service spirit before they see the prosperity of the tourist farm community.

  • This paper closely examines the relation between ‘how the local residents' involvement in a tourist industry and their perception of tourist development have an influence on tourism' and also 'how the understanding of a tourist effect has an influence on the local residents' participating intention in the tourist policy'. The local residents' involvement in the tourist industry was influenced by economical and socio-cultural factors among the influencing perceptions on local festivals, but, statistically, was not influenced by an environmental factor. The local residents' perception of tourist development has influenced on each local festival, and for the rate of influence, the environmental factor was the highest, and in the next order, the residents' intention to participate in tourist policy, the socio-cultural factor, and the economical factor followed. In the relation between local residents' perception of tourist influence and their participating intention, only the factor of socio-culture had a plus(+) influence on the participating intention in the tourist policy. It is expected that this result will be different from the tourist influence of tourist development. Therefore, a study of the perception on the influence of tourist development will be required in the future.

  • Tourist destination remodeling project is the tourist destination activation program to promote underdeveloped tourist destination that the Ministry of Culture and Sports has been implementing as a pilot program since 2005. Since previous tourist destination development programs focused on developing facilities, they could not quite cope with the changes in the tourism paradigm. Especially for caves, they could not escape from the simple sightseeing for the characteristics of the resource were fit to the caves. These results failed to meet tourist demands to experience and participate that the number of tourists is continuously decreasing. To cope with the circumstances, the government introduced a pilot program, a comprehensive tourist destination reorganization plan designed to comprehensively promote the tourism contents development (software) that can differentiate the region such as the tourism activation programs, tourist destination management and operation system reorganization (humanware) along with the repair of facilities (hardware project). This study emphasized the participation of residents who are the actual subject of management and operation of tourist facilities and programs in the course of establishing the master plan for remodeling for Gossi Cave that it can be used as the reference for establishing remodeling plan based on resident participation in the future.
