남부지역 논에서 토양의 이화학적 특성 및 벼의 생산성과 미질 향상을 위한 이탈리안 라이그라스-벼 이모작 작부체계의 적용 (Application of Italian Ryegrass-Rice Double Cropping Systems to Evaluate the Physicochemical Properties of Soil and Yield and Quality of Rice in Paddy Field in Southern Parts of Korea)

  • The physicochemical properties of soil and the yield and quality of rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Sailmi) were assessed using Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam. cv. Kowinearly)-rice double cropping systems in the paddy fields at Goseong and Miryang in southern Korea. The average temperatures during the ripening period were approximately 1 ℃ higher than the optimal temperature for rice ripening and the sunshine duration was reduced by frequent rainfall. Consequently, it was slightly below the optimal conditions required for rice ripening. In the soil at Goseong, winter Italian ryegrass cropping increased the pH, electrical conductivity, and the contents of organic matter, total nitrogen (T-N), available P2O5, K, Ca, and Mg than winter fallowing. Particularly, the contents of T-N and available P2O5increased significantly. In the soil at Miryang, Italian ryegrass slightly increased the electrical conductivity and the T-N, Mg, and Na contents. Therefore, winter Italian ryegrass cropping improved the physicochemical properties of paddy soils; however, Italian ryegrass-rice double cropping slightly reduced the culm length at both Goseong and Miryang, without markedly changing the panicle length or number compared to fallow-rice cropping. Furthermore, at Goseong, Italian ryegrass-rice double cropping slightly decreased the spikelet number and milled rice yield, and increased the ripened grain rate; however, at Miryang, contrasting results were observed. In addition, fallow-rice cropping revealed no differences in the head rice or opaque rice rates. The protein content was slightly increased in Italian ryegrass-rice double cropping, without significant changes in the amylose content or Toyo value, compared to that in fallow-rice cropping. The peak and breakdown viscosities were slightly decreased. These results indicate that winter Italian ryegrass cropping might alter rice taste but may not exhibit remarkable negative effects on rice cultivation. Therefore, Italian ryegrass-rice double cropping system is recommended for paddy fields in southern Korea. Nevertheless, to increase the rice yield and quality, fertilization standards for rice cropping that consider the changes in the T-N and organic matter contents in paddy fields caused by winter Italian ryegrass cropping need to be established.

낙동강 유역 SS, TN, TP 수문학적 플럭스 (The hydrologic flux of SS, TN and TP in Nakdong River Basin)

  • 본 연구에서는 현재 시행되고 있는 수질오염총량관리제 모니터링 시스템에 적용가능한 하천 오염부하량 추정기법을 제안하고 있다. 하도추적기능과 증발산량 계산 기능을 추가한 수정 TANK 모형을 이용하여 국립환경과학원에서 8일 간격으로 관측된 유량자료를 일 유량 자료로 확장하였다. 관측된 수질-유량 동시관측자료를 이용하여 7변수 대수선형모형의 매개변수를 최소분산 비편향 추정기법에 의해 추정하였다. 확장된 일 유량자료와 7변수 대수선형모형의 결과가 연계되어 관측지점별일 오염부하량이 계산되었다. 그 결과 SS, TN, TP 하천 오염부하량 추정에서 만족스러운 결과를 확인할 수 있었다. 적용의 일환으로 낙동강유역을 대표할 수 있는 SS, TN 및 TP 수질항목별 대표 단위면적당 부하량 유황곡선을 작성하였으며, 이를 통하여 낙동강 유역의 전체적인 하천오염부하량의 배출분포를 살펴보았다.

Analysis of the Phenolic Content and Antioxidant Activities of Soybean Extracts from Different Regions and Cultivars

  • Phenolic compounds such as isoflavones contribute to the antioxidant properties of soybean. This study investigated differences in the phenolic content and antioxidant activity of ten soybean cultivars grown in two different locations in Korea. We observed a wide range of variation in total isoflavone and phenolic content by location and cultivar. The total isoflavone content of cultivars grown at Pyeongchang (sub-highland) was significantly higher than that in cultivars grown at Gangneung (lowland). In contrast, the total phenolic content of cultivars grown at Gangneung was greater than that of cultivars grown at Pyeongchang. The radical scavenging activity of DPPH was similar to that of the total phenolic content rather than that of the total isoflavone content. These results suggest that antioxidant activity of soybean was associated with phenolic compounds rather than isoflavones. To identify the individual antioxidant components, we used an on-line HPLC-$ABTS^+$-based assay system, ESI/MS, and NMR. The results showed that the strongest antioxidant activity was linked to epicatechin.

다중 톤 방해신호가 존재하는 나카가미 페이딩 전송로에서 DS/SFH 복합 확산대역 시스템의 성능분석 (Performance of a Hybrid DS/SFH Spread Spectrum System over Nakagami Fading Channel in the Presence of Multiple Tone Jamming)

  • 본 논문에서는 다중톤 방해신호가 존재하는 나카가미 페이디 전송로에서 BPSK 변조 및 동기검출을 이용하는 직접시퀀스/느린 주파수 도약(DS/SFH) 복합 확산대역 시스템의 성능을 분석한다. 나카가미 페이딩 전송로 모델은 페이딩 지수 m에 따라 다양한 전파환경을 표현할 수 있는 장점을 지니는데, m=1이면 레일레이 페이딩 분포를 나타내고, $1/2{\le}m{\le}1$이면 레일레이 페이딩보다 심한 페이딩을 나타낸다. m>1이면 라이시안 페이딩을 나타내고, m이 무한대로 감에 따라 페이딩이 없는 조건을 나타낸다. 본 논문은 이 모델을 근거로 복합 확산대역 시스템의 비트오율식을 유도하고, 여러가지 시스템 파라미터에 대하여 계산한 결과를 제시한다. 계산결과로부터 m이 증가함에 따라 페이딩의 영향은 줄어들고 이에 따라 더 좋은 성능을 나타내는 것을 알 수 있으며, 방해신호대 원하는 신호의 전력비(JSR)가 작은 경우에는 DS 확산대역 시스템의 성능이 DS/SFH 복합 확산대역 시스템보다 좋은 성능을 나타내지만, 방해신호대 원하는 신호의 전력비(JSR)가 큰 경우에는 DS/SFH 복합확산대역 시스템의 성능이 DS 확산대역 시스템 성능보다 더 우수하다. 결론적으로, 전체 대역폭을 일정하게 유지할 경우, 다중톤 방해신호가 존재하는 환경에서 DS/SFH 복합 확산대역 시스템의 성능이 DS확산대역 시스템의 성능보다 훨씬 더 우수함을 알 수 있다.

이끼를 활용한 공기정화 시스템 개발 및 이끼별 공기정화 능력 평가 (Development of an air purification system using moss and evaluation of air purification capability for each moss)

  • 미세먼지는 대기를 타고 호흡기를 거쳐 폐 혹은 혈관에 침투한다. 최근 미세먼지 문제 때문에 국내에 공기청정기 수요도 급증하고 있다. 이끼는 가장 오래된 지상식물로 중금속과 미세먼지를 흡착하여 분해하는 성질을 가지고 있는 것으로 알려졌고 본 연구진은 이를 활용하여 화학적 필터를 대체할 수 있는 시스템에 대해 연구하였다. 이끼와 기존 화학적 필터(Hepa)의 미세먼지 감소 효과를 비교하기 위하여 1 m3의 큐브를 제작하고 통제된 환경하에서 미세먼지의 감소량을 비교하였다. 미세먼지 상황 하에서 우산 이끼 필터, 쥐꼬리 이끼 필터, 깃털 이끼 필터, 비단 이끼 필터 등을 삽입한 4가지 상황별로 각각 10회씩 총 40회의 실험을 진행하였으며 각각의 미세먼지 감소량을 비교한 결과 미세먼지 양과 30분후의 감소량의 차이는 모든 필터에서 모두 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. 하지만 필터별 차이는 확인 결과 미세먼지, 혼합 가스, CO2, O2 모두 필터별 간 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없음을 확인하였다. 특히 기존에 알려진 이끼의 산소 발생의 효과는 거의 없었음을 확인하였다. 이 결과를 통해 이끼의 종류와 관계없이 미세먼지 감소는 효과가 있는 것을 확인하였고 향후 개선을 통해 기존 공기정화기의 화학 필터를 대체하거나 보조할 것으로 기대된다.

Kinetic Investigation of CO2-CH4 Reaction over Ni/La2O3 Catalyst using Photoacoustic Spectroscopy

  • Ni/$La_2O_3$ with a high dispersion was prepared by reduction of $La_2O_3$ perovskite oxide to examine the catalytic activity for the $CO_2-CH_4$ reaction. The Ni/$La_2O_3$ catalyst was found to be highly active for the reaction. The ratios of $H_2$/CO were measured in a flow of the reaction mixture containing $CO_2/CH_4$/Ar using an on-line gas chromatography system operated at 1 atm and found to be varied with temperature between 0.66 and 1 in the temperature range of $500-800^{\circ}C$. A kinetic study of the catalytic reaction was performed in a static reactor at 40 Torr total pressure of $CO_2/CH_4/N_2$ by using a photoacoustic spectroscopy technique. The $CO_2$ photoacoustic signal varying with the concentration of $CO_2$ during the catalytic reaction was recorded as a function of time. Rates of $CO_2$ disappearance in the temperature range of $550-700^{\circ}C$ were obtained from the changes in the $CO_2$ photoacoustic signal at early reaction stage. The plot of ln rate vs. 1/T showed linear lines below and above $610^{\circ}C$. Apparent activation energies were determined to be 10.4 kcal/mol in the temperature range of $550-610^{\circ}C$ and 14.6 kcal/mol in the temperature range of $610-700^{\circ}C$. From the initial rates measured at $640^{\circ}C$ under various partial pressures of $CO_2$ and $CH_4$, the reaction orders were determined to be 0.43 with respect to $CO_2$ and 0.33 with respect to $CH_4$. The kinetic results were compared with those reported previously and used to infer a reaction mechanism for the Ni/$La_2O_3$-catalyzed $CO_2-CH_4$ reaction.

Morphologic change of rectosigmoid colon using belly board and distended bladder protocol

  • Purpose: This study investigates morphologic change of the rectosigmoid colon using a belly board in prone position and distended bladder in patients with rectal cancer. We evaluate the possibility of excluding the proximal margin of anastomosis from the radiation field by straightening the rectosigmoid colon. Materials and Methods: Nineteen patients who received preoperative radiotherapy between 2006 and 2009 underwent simulation in a prone position (group A). These patients were compared to 19 patients treated using a belly board in prone position and a distended bladder protocol (group B). Rectosigmoid colon in the pelvic cavity was delineated on planning computed tomography (CT) images. A total dose of 45 Gy was planned for the whole pelvic field with superior margin of the sacral promontory. The volume and redundancy of rectosigmoid colon was assessed. Results: Patients in group B had straighter rectosigmoid colons than those in group A (no redundancy; group A vs. group B, 10% vs. 42%; p = 0.03). The volume of rectosigmoid colon in the radiation field was significantly larger in group A (56.7 vs. 49.1 mL; p = 0.009). In dose volume histogram analysis, the mean irradiated volume was lower in patients in group B (V45 27.2 vs. 18.2 mL; p = 0.004). In Pearson correlation coefficient analysis, the in-field volume of rectosigmoid colon was significantly correlated with the bladder volume (R = 0.86, p = 0.003). Conclusion: Use of a belly board and distended bladder protocol could contribute to exclusion of the proximal margin of anastomosis from the radiation field.

Occupational stress changes and new-onset depression among male Korean manufacturing workers

  • Background: Studies on the association between occupational stress and depression have been frequently reported. However, the cross-sectional designs of studies limited insight into causal associations. In this study, we investigated the longitudinal association between occupational stress and new-onset depression among employees in a single manufacturing plant. Methods: The annual health checkup data of employees at a manufacturing plant in Korea were collected. A total of 1,837 male employees without depression who completed a health checkup during two consecutive years were included. Occupational stress was measured using a short form of the Korea Occupational Stress Scale (KOSS-SF), and depression was assessed using a Patient Health Questionnaire-2. The association between occupational stress change over the two years and newly developed depression was investigated using two logistic regression models. Results: Across all sub-factors of KOSS-SF, employees who reported increased occupational stress had a higher risk of new-onset depression. Newly developed depression was significantly associated with job demand (odds ratio [OR]: 4.34; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.37-7.96), job insecurity (OR: 3.21; 95% CI: 1.89-5.48), occupational climate (OR: 3.18; 95% CI: 1.91-5.31), lack of reward (OR: 2.28; 95% CI: 1.26-4.12), interpersonal conflict (OR: 2.14; 95% CI: 1.18-3.86), insufficient job control (OR: 1.93; 95% CI: 1.05-3.56), and the organizational system (OR: 1.84; 95% CI: 1.01-3.36). Conclusions: For every sub-factor of the KOSS-SF, occupational stress increase and persistent high stress were associated with the risk of developing new-onset depression. Among the seven sub-factors, job demand had the most significant effect. Our results show that occupational stress should be managed to promote employee mental healthcare.

중국 두만강 하류 유역의 습지 분류 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study On the Classification and Characteristics of Wetlands - Cases on the Watershed of Tumen River downstream in China -)

  • This study aims to understand wetland distribution and type-specific classification features with a focus on Tumen River downstream in China by adjusting and improving the classification system used in Korea with a reference to international wetland classification systems and their criteria & methods. In this study, wetland types were determined based on hydrology, vegetation, and soil conditions, which are the most basic elements of wetlands. Also, topography analytical map, vegetation analytical map, and soil analytical map for wetland classification were developed and used based on currently available topography map, vegetation map, and soil map. In addition, codes were defined based on topography, location, hydrology, and vegetation. The result shows that, in the Tumen River downstream, wetlands are often found near natural revetment and terrace land & river-bed lakes. In the discovered wetlands, riverine, lacustrine, and inland wetlands were mostly found at system level. Riparian and human-made wetlands were also identified. At a sub-system level, perennial and seasonal wetlands were found to a similar degree. At a class level, perennial open water, herbal plants, and shrubs were mostly found and sandy plain, hydrophytes, and forest tree types were also observed. An overall detailed classification shows that a total of 17 wetland types were found and a large distribution of sand dunes and river-bed lakes, which are scarce in Northeast Asia, indicates that other rare wetland types such as palustrine seasonal sand plain wetland and lacustrine seasonal sand plain wetland may be discovered.

순환여과시스템에서 사육밀도와 용존산소 농도가 돌돔(Oplegnathus fasciatus)의 성장과 혈액성상에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Stocking Density and Dissolved Oxygen Concentration on the Growth and Hematology of the Parrotfish Oplegnathus fasciatus in a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS))

  • The parrotfish Oplegnathus fasciatus is a sub-tropical species that is difficult to culture during the winter in South Korea. As a result, a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) was developed to rear parrotfish. This study investigated the effects of stocking density and dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration on the growth and hematology of the parrotfish in the RAS. The experimental stocking densities were 5 (SD05), 10 (SD10), 15 (SD15), and 20 kg/m3 (SD20) total body weight to tank water volume. As the stocking density increased, the mean weight gain, feed efficiency, and specific growth rate tended to decrease. However, SD10 and SD15 did not differ statistically from SD05 in feed efficiency (P>0.05). Although better growth was achieved in SD05, SD10 and SD15 appeared to be acceptable, practically and economically, in terms of feed efficiency. The experimental DO concentration ranges were 3-4 (DO3), 5-6 (DO5), and 7-8 mg/L (DO7). The mean weight gain and survival tended to increase with the DO concentration, but there were no differences among treatments (P>0.05). Although the feed efficiency did not differ among the treatments, the specific growth rates and daily feed intake increased with the DO concentration and were the highest in DO7 (P<0.05). The cortisol concentration was the highest in DO3 (P<0.05), while there was no difference between DO5 and DO7 (P>0.05).
