To examine the effect of packaging method on strawberry, tomato, and plum quality, the rate of weight loss, Hunter a value, decay rate, anthocyanin contents, and microbial (total bacterial counts, mold and yeast, and pseudomonas) changes were determined during storage. Strawberry was packaged with low density polyethylene (LDPE). Tomato and plum were packaged with high density polyethylene film (HDPE). Strawberries, tomatoes, and plums were then stored at 4$^{\circ}C$ and 20$^{\circ}C$, respectively. LDPE package was the most effective on the decrease of decay rate of strawberry and the rate of weight loss for packaged strawberry was lower than that of the non-packaged. HDPE package was the most effective on the rate of weight loss during storage of tomatoes and plums regardless of storage temperature. Hunter a value increased during storage. Anthocyanin contents of plums increased overall with increasing storage time, and plums stored without package were changed more than those with package. Microbial changes of strawberry, tomato, and plum stored at 4$^{\circ}C$ and 20$^{\circ}C$ were monitored during storage. Packaging method did not affect the microbial change, yet temperature did affect the microbial change significantly. These results indicate that storage of these commodities at 4$^{\circ}C$ should be recommended in terms ,of microbial safety as well as quality and shelf-life.

In this study, we investigated the variations of the kinetic coefficients and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), N and P mass used for assimilation of a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) system with the variation of SRTs; SRTs of 7.5, 10.0, 12.5, 15.0 and 20.0 days were tested in one cycle of SBR operation to determine the optimum conditions for the operation of the SBR and estimate its COD, nitrogen and phosphorus removal efficiencies. The SBR system was operated under the conditions as follows: an operation time of 6 hours per cycle, a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 12 hours, an influent COD loading of $0.4kg/m^3/day$, and an influent nitrogen loading of $0.068kgT-N/m^3/day$. The yield coefficient (Y) and decay rate coefficient ($k_d$) were estimated to be 0.4198 kgMLVSS/kgCOD and $0.0107day^{-1}$ by calculating the removal rate of substrate according to the variation of SRT. Considering total nitrogen amount removed by sludge waste process, eliminated by denitrification, and in clarified water effluent with reference to 150 mg/cycle of influent nitrogen amount, the percentage of nitrogen mass balance from the ratio of the nitrogen amount in effluent (N output) to that in influent (N input) for Runs 1~5 were 95.5, 97.0, 95.5, 99.5, and 95.5%, respectively, which is well accounted for, with mass balances close to 100%.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the radioactivity levels and radiological impacts of representative black sand samples collected from different locations in the Rashid area, Egypt. These samples were prepared and then analyzed using the high-resolution gamma ray spectroscopy technique with a high-purity germanium detector. The activity concentration ($A_c$), minimum detectable activity, absorbed gamma dose rate, external hazard index ($H_{ex}$), annual effective dose rate equivalent, radium equivalent, as well as external and internal hazard index ($H_{ex}$ and $H_{in}$, respectively) were estimated based on the measured radionuclide concentration of the $^{238}U$($^{226}Ra$) and $^{232}Th$ decay chains and $^{40}K$. The activity concentrations of the $^{238}U$, $^{232}Th$ decay series and $^{40}K$ of these samples varied from $45.11{\pm}3.1Bq/kg$ to $252.38{\pm}34.3Bq/kg$, from $64.65{\pm}6.1Bq/kg$ to $579.84{\pm}53.1Bq/kg$, and from $403.36{\pm}20.8Bq/kg$ to $527.47{\pm}23.1Bq/kg$, respectively. The activity concentration of $^{232}Th$ in Sample 1 has the highest value compared to the other samples; this value is also higher than the worldwide mean range as reported by UNSCEAR 2000. The total absorbed gamma dose rate and the annual effective dose for these samples were found to vary from 81.19 nGy/h to 497.81 nGy/h and from $99.86{\mu}Sv/y$ to $612.31{\mu}Sv/y$, which are higher than the world average values of 59 nGy/h and $70{\mu}Sv/y$, respectively. The $H_{ex}$ values were also calculated to be 3.02, 0.47, 0.63, 0.87, 0.87, 0.51 and 0.91. It was found that the calculated value of $H_{ex}$ for Sample 1 is significantly higher than the international acceptable limit of <1. The results are tabulated, depicted, and discussed within national and international frameworks, levels, and approaches.

The analysis for the coolability of the reactor cavity in typical Korean 1000 MWe Nuclear Unit under severe accidents is performed using MELCOR 1.8.3 code. The key parameters molten core-concrete interaction(MCCI) such as melt temperature, concrete ablation history and gas generation are investigated. Total twenty cases are selected according to ejected debris fraction and coolant mass, The ablation rate of concrete decreases as mass of the melt decreases and coolant mass increases. Heat loss from molten pool to coolant is comparable to total decay heat, so concrete ablation is delayed until water is absent and crust begins to remove. Also, overpressurization due to non-condensible gases generated during corium and concrete interacts can cause to additional risk of containment failure. It is concluded that flooded reactor cavity condition is very important to minimize the cavity ablation and pressure load by non-condensible gases on containment.

As a result of analyzing the quality of imported grapes during the 2018 season, the hardness of the grape berry was found to be 10 N or less in total. In the case of Chilean grapes, the soluble solids tended to be lower as imports and distribution periods were delayed. The berry weight was the largest at 14.4 - 14.8 g for the 'Red Globe', 7.1 - 7.4 g for the 'Thompson Seedless' and 6.0 - 7.0 g for the 'Crimson Seedless'. The 'Crimson Seedless' grapes imported from Chile, which had a high berry shatter rate, had a shorter pedicel length, pad width and brush length than that of the other 2 varieties. Regardless of the grape varieties, the weight loss during the distribution at room temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) increased rapidly as the import season was delayed. Additionally, it was found that the later the distribution seasons, a higher stem browning index was observed regardless of the variety. The 'Thompson Seedless' was revealed to be more susceptible to browning than that of the other varieties. The shrinkage of the stem and the pedicel browning progressed within a short time during shelf-life as the distribution time was delayed. The incidence of berry decay of the imported grapes tended to increase with the progression of the distribution period. In the fruits distributed on April, except for the 'Crimson Seedless', the grapes were rapidly corrupted in the second half of the distribution. The 'Red Globe' grapes completely lost marketability due to a berry decay of 26.1% and 69.9% at 9 and 12 days after shelf-life, respectively.
This study was conducted to analyze stem decay in Quercus mongolica and Quercus variabilis in Korea. To ensure even allocation, a total of 5,005 sample trees (2,504 Q. mongolica and 2,501 Q. variabilis) were cut and collected in five regions and 27 subregions. The trees were then examined for stump decay and assigned to four classes based on the degree of scar, tissue decay and decolorization, splitting, and tree hollowing. The results show that the decay rate of Q. mongolica was 66.1%, at least twice as high as that of Q. variabilis, which was rated at 35% (χ2 = 631.15, p < 0.001). The comparison among regions indicated that the highest ratio of Q. mongolica occurs in the Central Regional Forest Service zone (76.5%), followed by the Northern zone (74.8%) and Eastern zone (65.7%). In contrast, the greatest proportion of Q. variabilis is found in the Northern Regional Forest Service zone (38.6%), followed by the Southern (32.9%) and Eastern (37.8%) zones. A statistically significant difference was seen among the five zones (p < 0.05, p < 0.001). There was also a clear tendency for the proportions for the two species to increase with a rise in the DBH. With respect to age, however, a statistically significant difference was found (p < 0.01, p < 0.05) only in Q. mongolica, whose rate increased with the increase in age. Our results show that as the DBH and age increases, the conditions of tissue decay and decolorization are manifested in Q. mongolica, whereas scars are common in Q. variabilis.
Indoor air quality might be affected by source strength of indoor pollutants, ventilation rate, decay rate, outdoor level, and so on. Although technologies measuring these factors exist directly, direct measurements of all factors are not always practical in most field studies. The purpose of this study was to develop an alternative method to estimate the source strength and deposition constant by application of multiple measurements. For the total duration of 60 days, indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ concentrations every 3 days were measured in 30 houses in Seoul, Asan and Daegu. Using a compartment model by mass balance and linear regression analysis, penetration factor (ventilation divided by sum of air exchange rate and deposition constant) and source strength factor (emission rate divided by sum of air exchange rate and deposition constant) were calculated. Subsequently, the source strength and deposition constant were estimated. Natural ventilation was $1.80{\pm}0.42\;ACH,\;1.11{\pm}0.50\;ACH,\;0.92{\pm}0.26\;ACH$ in Seoul, Asan and Daegu, respectively. Calculated deposition constant(K) and source strength of $NO_2,$ in this study were $0.98{\pm}0.28\;hr^{1}\;and\;16.28{\pm}7.47\;ppb/h,$ respectively.
Indoor air quality is the dominant contributor to total personal exposure because most people spend a majority of their time Indoors. Especially when indoor environments have sources of contaminants, exposure to in-door air can potentially pose a greater threat than exposure to ambient air. In this study, estimations of volatile organic compounds and formaldehyde omission rate in indoor environments of new apartments were carried out using mass balance model in indoor environment, because indoor air quality can be affected by source generation, outdoor air level, ventilation, decay by reaction, temperature, humidity, mixing condition and so on. Considering the estimated emission rate of volatile organic compounds and formaldehyde, it Is suggested that new apartment should be designed and constructed in the aspect of using construction materials to emit low hazardous air pollutants.
The optimal rechlorination in water distribution systems was investigated by incorporating optimization techniques into a numerical water quality model. For a hypothetical system that consists of 10 junctions including a storage tank and 12 links, the bulk ($k_b$) and pipe-wall ($k_w$) decay-rate constants of chlorine residual are assumed to be 2.0 1/day and 1.5 m/day, respectively. It was also assumed that the lower and upper limits of chlorine residual in the network are 0.2 mg/L and 0.6 mg/L. When the chlorine source is only the storage tank (without rechlorination), the high levels of chlorine residual appear near the storage tank to maintain the chlorine residuals above the lower limit over the junctions. On the other hand, the chlorine residuals in the network are distribute within the desirable range (0.2 - 0.6 mg/L) after the optimal rechlorination through five injection sites including the storage tank. In case of a real water distribution system that comprises 28 junctions including a clear well and 27 links, the bulk and pipe-wall decay-rate constants are 0.3 1/day and 0.2 m/day, respectively. Before rechlorination, the required chlorine residual at the clearwell is 5.1 mg/L to keep the chlorine residuals above the minimum level (0.6 mg/L) over the junctions. By the optimal rechlorination at five injection sites, the chlorine residuals are distributed within a desirable range of 0.6 mg/L through 2.0 mg/L, which can avoid the excess of chlorine residuals near the clear well. Consequently, total chlirine doses are decreased by 81% in the hypothetical distribution network and 69 % in the real distribution network for satisfying the minimum chlorine residuals.

The photoconductive multilayer of Se-As(hole blocking layer)/Se-As-Te (photoconductive layer) /Se-As (layer for supporiting hole transport)/Se-As(layer or controlling total capacitance)/Sb2S3(electron blocking layer) was fabricated and its electrical and optical properties were investigated. The photoconductive multilayer is made of evaporated a-Se as the base material, doped with As and Te to prevent the crystallization of a-Se and to enhance red sensitivity, respectively. The multilayer with good image reproducibility has the following deposition condition. The first layer has the thickness of 250\ulcornerat the deposition rate of 250\ulcornersec. The second layer has the thickness of 800\ulcornerat the deposition rate of 250\ulcornersec. The third layer has the thickness of 125\ulcornerat the deposition rate of 250\ulcornersec. The fourth layer has the thickness of 1700\ulcornerunder the Ar gas ambient of 50x10**-3torr. The image pick-up tube, employing this multilayer demonstrates the following characteristics. The photosensitivity is 0.8, the resolution limit is above 300TV line, and the decay lag is about 7%. And spectral response convers the whole visible range. Therfore the application to color TV camera is expected.
