  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of Platycodi radix Saponin(PRS) on the reduction of lipid status in rats fed on high fat diet for 6 weeks after which lipid contents were measured in serum , liver and feces. The results obtained from this study are as follows : That the levels of total lipid, total cholesterol and triglyceride in serum and liver were significantly lower in the PRS group as compared with the control group. The contents of total lipid and total cholesterol excreted in the feces were tended to be slightly increase in PRS group compared to the control group, which were not significant.

  • This study investigated the inactivation of the total coliform, an indicator organism in chlorine dioxide, in order to assess the optimal disinfection procedure for drinking water treatment and distribution systems. This research focus on a number of factors, including the dosage of disinfectant, contact time, pH, temperature and DOC. Water samples were taken from the outlet of a settling basin at a conventional surface water treatment system. As the pH increased in the range of pH 6-9, the bactericidal effects of disinfectants decreased. Changes in levels of pH did not significantly after the disinfection effect of chlorine dioxide for total coliform. With an increase in temperature, there was a subsequent increase in the bactericidal effects of disinfectants. Thus, it is evident that a decrease in temperature will higher the CT values required to inactivate coliform for during the winter. DOC addition can also reduce total coliform inactivation. DOC is the most significant variable in total coliform inactivation with chlorine dioxide.

  • A k-total-coloring of a graph G is a coloring of $V{\cup}E$ using k colors such that no two adjacent or incident elements receive the same color. The total chromatic number ${\chi}^{{\prime}{\prime}}(G)$ of G is the smallest integer k such that G has a k-total-coloring. Let G be a planar graph with maximum degree ${\Delta}$. In this paper, it's proved that if ${\Delta}{\geq}7$ and G does not contain adjacent 5-cycles, then the total chromatic number ${\chi}^{{\prime}{\prime}}(G)$ is ${\Delta}+1$.

  • A three-valued function f defined on the vertices of a digraph D = (V, A), $f:V{\rightarrow}\{-1,0,+1\}$ is a minus total dominating function(MTDF) if $f(N^-(v)){\geq}1$ for each vertex $v{\in}V$. The minus total domination number of a digraph D equals the minimum weight of an MTDF of D. In this paper, we discuss some properties of the minus total domination number and obtain a few lower bounds of the minus total domination number on a digraph D.

  • Complete vertebral tumor resection is important in order to prevent local recurrence. Among the available techniques for total spondylectomy, the total en bloc spondylectomy has been accepted as the most sophisticated one. After a total en bloc spondylectomy, anterior and posterior column reconstruction is mandatory in order to achieve stability. We experienced the usefulness of an expandable cage for anterior column reconstruction especially in this surgery. The chance of cutting the nerve root and damaging the spinal cord is minimized because the size of the expandable cage is initially small enough to be inserted into the anterior column. The technical details of total vertebral body replacement with an expandable cage after an en bloc lumbar spondylectomy are described herein.

  • The intra-annual and interannual variations of total, high, middle, low clouds, and cloud forcing net solar radiation flux, cloud forcing net long-wave radiation flux, and SSTs over the tropical oceans are investigated with the use of ISCP D2, NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis for January 1983-December 1993. The intra-annual variation of total cloudiness is dominated by high and middle clouds in the western Pacific and central tropical oceans, the interannual variation of total cloudiness is also dominated by high and middle clouds in the central Pacific and Atlantic. The dominant intra-annual and interannual EOFs of total cloudiness have spatially coherent link with those SSTs. For the interannual EOFs, total cloudiness and SSTs are related to E1 nino-Southern Oscillation(ENSO). The second most important intra-annual EOFs of total cloudiness are related to Inter Tropical Convergence Zone(ITCZ). The third most important intra-annual EOFs show coherent relation in the western Pacific. The correlation analysis between cloud radiative effects and SSTs show spatially coherent relation over the tropical oceans even though cloud forcing cooling effect is much higher than heating effect.

  • Let G = (V,E) be a graph. A function $f:V{\rightarrow}\{-1,+1\}$ defined on the vertices of G is a signed total dominating function if the sum of its function values over any open neighborhood is at least one. The signed total domination number of G, ${\gamma}^s_t(G)$, is the minimum weight of a signed total dominating function of G. In this paper, we study the signed total domination number of generalized Petersen graphs P(n, 2) and prove that for any integer $n{\geq}6$, ${\gamma}^s_t(P(n,2))=2[\frac{n}{3}]+2t$, where $t{\equiv}n(mod\;3)$ and $0 {\leq}t{\leq}2$.

  • Inactivation rates between enterococci and total coliforms were compared in order to find the suitability of enterococci as an indicator microorganism under various experiment conditions - freshwater and/or seawater, indoor and/or outdoor conditions. In case of indoor laboratory experiments, inactivation rates of enterococci ($k_D$: 0.050~0.082) were faster than those of total coliforms ($k_D$: 0.034~0.045) in freshwater matrix. In seawater matrix, however, survival rate of enterococci was longer than that of total coliforms at two out of three experiments in indoor condition. When incubated in outdoor conditions, enterococci were inactivated significantly more rapidly than total coliforms both in freshwater and seawater matrices. With these results, enterococci appear to be less suitable than total coliforms in terms of inactivation rates.

  • This study examined the insolvency of debtors using multiple-indicator approaches and compared the outcomes across income levels with the 2016 'Household Financial and Welfare Survey'. This study used (1) the total debt to total assets ratio (DTA), (2) the total debt service ratio (DSR), and (3) the Household Default Risk Index (HDRI) recently developed by the Bank of Korea. Households in the lowest income quintile were more likely to be insolvent than any other income group. Demographics, such as age and gender of the household head, and most of the financial variables significantly increased the likelihood of insolvency based on the DTA. The number of household members and job status increased the likelihood of insolvency based on the DSR. Also, age, gender of the household head, and most of the financial variables increased the likelihood of household insolvency based on the HDRI after controlling for other demographics and financial variables.

  • Tectona grandis (teak) is one of the most important timber species worldwide and India is one of the major teak growing countries. Though some volume equations were developed for teak in India but the models developed were neither evaluated using robust statistical criteria nor validated. Hence, the objective of this study was to develop statistically tested appropriate volume equation to predict total wood volume (over- and under-bark) for teak trees in Gujarat. A total of 41 trees with age varying from 15 to 33 years and diameter at breast height (dbh) from 7.3 to 30.8 cm were felled for the purpose. Linear and non-linear equations were used to model the relationship of the total wood volume with respect to dbh and total height. The equations tested mostly fitted well to the data. Model evaluation and validation indicated that models should be calibrated with local data for greater accuracy in the prediction.
