The current ACI design code does not take into account the contribution of concrete for the torsional moment of reinforced concrete(RC) beams subjected to pure torsion. This code is not capable of evaluating the inter-effects between concrete and torsional reinforcement on the torsional resistance of the RC beams. In this study, 9 RC beams subjected to pure torsion were tested. The main parameter of the beams was the amount of torsional reinforcement and the angle of twist. Test results indicated that the current ACI code over-estimated the torsional strength of RC beams that had larger amount of torsional reinforcement.
This thesis studied whether friction welding of SPSS, localized torsion bar material could be accomplished or not. And then optimum welding conditions were examined and leaded through tensile, impact, torsion and hardness test after postweld heat treatment of the actual field condition. Obtained results were as follows; Linear relationship was existed between heating time and total upset, and a quadratic equation model could be made between tensile strength and heating time. Optimum welding conditions with fine structure were as follows in case total upset(U)=8.5mm; the number of rotations(n)=2,000 rpm, heating pressure($p_1$)=80MPa, upset pressure($p_2$)=200MPa, heating time($t_1$)=4sec, upset time($t_2$)=3 sec.

FRP has been used very much as high strength core materials for insulators because of its high strength and good insulation properties. In this study cantilever, tension and torsion stress were simulation along to the unidirection glass fiber. In addition, FRP was made by pultrusion method. This paper proposed the procedure of the finite element model updating and pretest using the commercial finite element code MSC. Nastran. To enhance the efficiency of experimental modal analysis, we proposed the process which is the selection of the locations and the number of measurement points for pre-test.
The evaluation of torsional effects on multistory buildings remains an open issue, despite considerable research efforts and numerous publications. In this study, a large number of multiple test structures are considered with normally distributed topological attributes, in order to quantify the statistically derived relationships between the torsional criteria and response parameters. The linear regression analysis results, depict that the center of twist and the ratio of torsion (ROT) index proved numerically to be the most reliable criteria for the prediction of the modal rotation and displacements, however the residuals distribution and R-squared derived for the ductility demands prediction, was not constant and low respectively. Thus, the assessment of the torsional parameters' contribution to the nonlinear structural response was investigated using artificial neural networks. Utilizing the connection weights approach, the Center of Strength, Torsional Stiffness and the Base Shear Torque curves were found to exhibit the highest impact numerically, while all the other torsional indices' contribution was investigated and quantified.

In this study, a small-scaled test system for a tip jet rotor was developed to contribute to the research on unmanned compound rotorcraft. The performance and dynamic characteristics of the tip jet rotor were investigated using the test system. The diameter of the tip jet rotor was set to 2m in consideration of the size of the test site and the pneumatic supply capacity of the. The rotating speed of the rotor was controlled by the pressure of the compressed air. The thrust and forces during the rotor rotation were measured using a load measuring device. A hydraulic actuator was installed for the dynamic test and full-bridge strain gages were attached to the root of each blade to measure the flap, lag, and torsion-wise responses generated when the rotor is excited by the actuator. The performance and dynamic characteristic tests were conducted at various rotor speeds and blade pitches. In order to check the validity of the test results, the results were also compared with the CAMRAD II analysis.

The high strain rate deformation behavior of ultra-fine grained 5083 aluminum alloys prepared via equal channel angular (ECA) extrusion was investigated in this study. The microstructure of ECA extruded specimens consisted of ultra-fine grains, and contained a considerable amount of second phase particles, which were fragmented and distributed homogeneously in the matrix. According to the dynamic torsion test results, the maximum shear stress and fracture shear strain of the route A (no rotation) specimen were lower than those of route C ($180^{\circ}$ rotation) specimen since that adiabatic shear bands of $100{\mu}m$ in width were formed in the route A specimen. The formation of adiabatic shear bands was addressed by concepts of critical shear strain, deformation energy required for void initiation, and microstructural homogeneity associated with ECA operations.

The Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) material is recently widely used in the composite industry with excellent rigidity and lightweight properties. A ship shaft system requires high standards of safety on torsional strength capacity. The purpose of this study is to verify the applicability of a CFRP shaft system to take the place of metal shaft systems for ships from a viewpoint of torsional strength. Selection of materials and manufacturing method are executed then two geometrically scaled CFRP shaft system models were designed and manufactured with three-layer patterns. The models were used for a series of torsion tests under single and repeated torsional loading conditions. Detailed design and manufacturing methods for a CFRP ship shaft system are documented and the torsion test results are listed in this paper. The results of this study could be useful guidelines on the development of CFRP ship shaft systems and a test method.

Among the various parts of automobile, automotive seat is the most fundamental item that ride comfort can be evaluated as the direct contact part with human body. Automotive seat must have the sufficient rigidity and strength at the same time with ride comfort. In this study, cushion frame and back frame at car seat are modelled with 3D. There are structural simulation analyses about 3 kinds of tests on torsion strength, vertical load strength and back frame strength. In the analysis result, the initial total deformation and the permanent total deformation has the maximum values of 5.4821 mm and 0.02539mm respectively at the torsion strength test of cushion frame. Total deformations at front and rear end parts of cushion frame become the values of 2.1159mm and 0.0606mm respectively at the test of vertical load strength of cushion frame. In case of more than this load, the maximum value of total deformation also becomes 3.1739mm. The maximum value of total deformation becomes 0.18634mm at 3 kinds of the strength tests on back frame. By the study result of no excessive deformation and no fracture cushion frame and back frame at automotive seat, the sufficient rigidity and strength to guarantee the safety of passenger can be verified.

This paper described improvement and operation of a 'Tail-Fan' anti-torque performance test system KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) developed a 'Tail-Fan' anti-torque system of a helicopter and a performance test-rig to test the performance of the Tail-Fan. The test-rig was improved for full rotating test in 4300rpm(100%). Machinery and hydraulic parts ware changed to reduce vibration and to increase safety. To find the operation rotating speed for the performance test, vibration test were carried out rising accelerometers on tail gear box. The performance test conditions of the Tail-Fan to avoid a resonance were found from vibration test results. The Tail-Fan operation tests were performed safely frier to carry out performance test.

This paper described operation and vibration characteristics of 'Tail-Fan' performance test system. KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) developed 'Tail-Fan' system as a kind of helicopter anti-torque system(ATS) and designed ATS performance test-rig for Tail-Fan system performance test. Test-rig consists of driving parts, supporting parts and rotating parts. For Tail-Fan system performance tests, firstly, test-rig operation tests were carried out for verification of design specifications. Secondly, natural frequencies of fan blade and test-rig were measured respectively. Lastly, to find the operation rotating speed for performance tests, vibration tests using accelerometers on tail gear box(TGB) were carried out. Through the fanplot and vibration test results, Tail-Fan performance test conditions to avoid a resonance were found and performance tests were well done safely.
