  • Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) produces two kind of torque that Magnetic and Reluctance torque. The permanent magnet linkage flux and d-axis and q-axis inductances have an important influence on the torque characteristic of IPMSM. Thus their accurate prediction is essential for predicting performance aspect such as the torque and flux-weakening capabilities. In this paper, is calculated by LC resonance method with FEM. The results are validated by comparison the calculated by another method.

  • The operating torque and tribological characteristics of the cam/tappet system in an I.C. engine have an important effect on engine efficiency. In this paper, we measured the torque of cam/tappet system with respect to the oil temperature and camshaft speed to characterize the tribological behavior. Also, accelerated test was performed to analyze the wear characteristics of cam/tappet interface. The torque of the cam/tappet system decreased with respect to camshaft speed and was not significantly affected by the oil temperature. The results of accelerated test showed that the running-in wear occurred during the tests and the center of the tappet was mainly damaged by the rolling and sliding friction.

  • Quantifying the nanoscale force between the atomic force microscopy (AFM) probe of a force-sensing cantilever and the sample is one of the challenges faced by AFM researchers. The normal force calibration is straightforward; however, the lateral force is complicated due to the twisting motion of the cantilever. Force measurement in a liquid environment is often needed for biological applications; however, calibrating the force of the AFM probes for those applications is more difficult owing to the limitations of conventional calibration methods. In this work, an accurate nondestructive lateral force calibration method using multiple pivot loading was proposed for liquid environment. The torque sensitivity at the location of the integrated probe was extrapolated based on accurately measured torque sensitivities across the cantilever width along a few cantilever lengths. The uncertainty of the torque sensitivity at the location of the integrated tip was about 13%, which is significantly smaller than those for other calibration methods in a liquid environment.

  • The single phase SRM has some demerits that has a torque ripple, noise and vibration because of being excited by switching pulse power source. Therefore, to make up for these demerits, it is realized many studies for the structure design used by computer and the operating methods by power electronic technique. On this paper, we will measure the accurate torque characteristics of the disk type single phase SRM, which is designed and manufactured for fan drive through the previous studies. With this results, we'll find the control elements to reduce the torque ripple and then design and manufacture the optimal drive circuit.

  • Occurrence of pressure pulsation in positive displacement hydraulic turbine is one of the principal problems which should be cleared to improve the turbine performance and to put the turbine to practical use. Therefore, present study is tried to examine the occurrence mechanism and characteristics of the pressure pulsation CFD analysis and experimental measurement are implemented in this study to clarify the phenomena of unsteady pressure pulsation. The results show that occurrence reason of the pressure pulsation is not only due to a series of opening and closing of the chamber formed between rotor and casing wall but also due to the variation of rotational speed of following rotor. The pressure pulsation causes torque variation and the curve patterns of the torque variation conforms to that of the pressure pulsation. Pressure in the chamber is equal to the averaged value of inlet and outlet pressures. Sudden pressure decrease by accelerated through-flow between lobe and casing wall results in torque loss.

  • This paper concerns a method for high precision torque control of induction motor supplied with power via a Transister inverter. The control system is totaly digitized using DSP - TMS32010.Since operation time leads to control delay in such a system, torque ripples are more significient than relieved considerably by using current preview control and vector pulse width control. The usefulness of these techniques will be demonstrated by showing the results of a simulation,and results of measurement on a 2.2Kw induction motor.

  • The gear system is commonly applied in the marine propulsion shafting system using the diesel engine with the power take off/in system and it also is necessary to reduce propeller revolution increasing the propulsion efficiency. The diesel engine has the advantage more than other thermal engines in high thermal efficiency and mobility. But the large vibratory torque which induced by higher combustion pressure is transmitted to these gears. In this paper, the surface durability and bending stress of gear system considering vibratory and transient torque is evaluated by ISO and AGMA regulation. And the influence of these in gear design is investigated with the theoretical analysis and onboard measurement result of torsional vibration.

  • This paper presents an adaptive approach to control the amount of slip of the torque converter bypass clutch using its estimated friction coefficient. The proposed approach can be readily implemented using the inexpensive speed sensors currently installed in an automobile. A measurement feedback control law to drive the slip error to zero together with an adaptation law to identify the unknown friction coefficient is developed using the Lyapunov control design method. The robustness of the control and adaptation laws to parametric and/or torque uncertainties as well as the convergence of the friction coefficient are investigated. Simulation results verify the viability of the proposed control algorithm in real-world vehicle control applications.

Acoustic Noise of Brushless DC Motors Induced by Electromagnetic Torque Ripple

  • Torque ripple is one of the major sources inducing vibration and noise in brushless DC motors. This is especially true in applications such as the spindle motors used in hard disk drives. However, the relationship between torque ripple and acoustic noise/vibration is quite complicated. This paper presents a way to investigate this relationship with acoustic noise measurement and analysis. Results obtained with three different drive modes are used in the analysis. The results show that the acoustic noise analysis is very helpful in designing a high-performance drive strategy for BLDC motors.

Impact on Retrievability by Cement Variety for Implant Restorations Equipped with a Lingual Slot

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to measure and compare the removal torques of different cements applied in attachments of zirconia restorations on titanium (Ti) abutments fitted with retrievable cement-type slot (RCS) on the lingual side for the better retrievablity by use of a slot driver. Materials and Methods: Three types of cements were used in the experiment: two permanent cements in $RelyX^{TM}$ U200 (RU) (3M ESPE) which is a resin cement and $FujiCem^{TM}$ (FC) (GC) which is a resin-modified glass ionomer cement, and a temporary cement in $Freegenol^{TM}$ temporary cement (TC) (GC). Measurements of removal torques were conducted as follows; an attached sample was fixed on the equipment customized for the experiment; a slot driver was connected to a MGT12 (Mark-10 Corp.), a torque measurement instrument; the sample had the driver fitted to its RCS and then was rotated until the it was removed; and finally, the maximum torque value was recorded. Result: As for the removal torque measurement results, the average values were $47.9{\pm}2.6Ncm$ for RU, $43.4{\pm}1.5Ncm$ for FC, and $20.9{\pm}1.0Ncm$ for TC. The statistical analysis using Kruskal-Wallis test yielded the significance probability of P<0.05 (P=0.002), which confirmed the presence of significant differences between the three groups. Conclusion: All three cements exhibit clinically acceptable levels of removal torque when applied to an upper zirconia implant restoration fitted with a lingual slot, with RU and FC, the two permanent cements, having the significantly higher values than that of TC, the temporary cement.
