This paper proposes a new cascoded configuration for hybrid energy storage system (HESS) which consists of batteries and supercapacitor (SC) for Electric Vehicle applications. In this configuration,a resonant LLC converter is interfacedin series with a battery module and it converts a part of the energy from the batteries and transfer it to the dc-link bus. The LLC converter is controlled by a phase-shift angle between the primary and secondary switches to maintain a constant dc-link voltage and obtain soft-switching conditions for all the primary switches. By placing the SC moduleina cascoded concept, the rated voltage of SC can be reduced significantly compared with the conventional topologies. It helps save the cost and reduce the number of SC cells. The proposed configuration can operate with four different modes: feeding load, acceleration, regenerative braking andSC charging. A scaled-down prototype converter (2 kW, 600V output) is designed and tested to verify the advantages of the proposed topology. The maximum efficiency obtained with the proposed topology is 99%.
This investigation studies the effects of material properties and corresponding propagation wave types on optimal configurations of sound absorbing porous materials in maximizing the absorption performance by topology optimization. The acoustic behavior of porous materials is characterized by their material properties which determine motions of the frame and the air. When the frame has a motion, two types of compressional wave propagate in the porous material. Because each wave in the material make different influence on the absorption performance, it is important to understand the relative contribution of each wave to the sound absorption. The relative contribution of the propagating waves in a porous material is determined by the material properties, therefore, an optimal configuration of a porous material to maximize the absorption performance is apparently affected by the material properties. In fact, virtually different optimal configurations were obtained for absorption coefficient maximization when the topology optimization method developed by the authors was applied to porous materials having different material properties. In this investigation, some preliminary results to explain the findings are presented. Although several factors should be considered, the present investigation is focused on the effects of the material properties and corresponding propagation waves on the optimized configurations.

Continuum element sensitivity analysis (CONTESA) and system optimization (SYSOPT) for Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) have been developed and applied to automobile structures for sizing, topology, and configuration design using Mindlin plate and Timoshenko beam theories. The topology optimization has been developed using the density approach, sequential linear programming, and the adjoint variable method. CONTESA has been tested using various vehicle models. Optimized vehicles using CONTESA and SYSOPT are manufactured to validate the simulation-based design methodology.

Several multilevel converter topologies have been proposed and compared. The three-level (3L) neutral-point-clamped (NPC) topology is promising and widely accepted. However, this topology suffers from uneven loss distribution among switches due to its fixed switching strategy. The 3L active NPC (ANPC) topology, which exhibits improved loss distribution profile, was proposed to address this disadvantage. The 3L T-NPC topology, a hybrid configuration of 2L and 3L NPC topologies, was introduced to address not only the loss distribution problem but also the reduction in the number of switches. In the present research, the application of these three topologies in PMSG-based medium-voltage wind turbines was investigated. The power devices considered were 10 kV IGCTs. Performance was evaluated in terms of a power loss of 10 kV IGCT for each NPC topology, which is a crucial indicator of thermal behavior, reliability, cost, and lifetime of any converter. The comparison was performed using ABB make 10 kV IGCT 5SHY17L9000 and the simulation tool PLECS.

This paper presents a multi-step structural design optimization method fur machine tool structures using a genetic algorithm with dynamic penalty. The first step is a sectional topology optimization, which is to determine the best sectional construction that minimize the structural weight and the compliance responses subjected to some constraints. The second step is a static design optimization, in which the weight and the static compliance response are minimized under some dimensional and safety constraints. The third step is a dynamic design optimization, where the weight static compliance, and dynamic compliance of the structure are minimized under the same constraints. The proposed design method was examined on the 10-bar truss problem of topology and sizing optimization. And the results showed that our solution is better than or just about the same as the best one of the previous researches. Furthermore, we applied this method to the topology and sizing optimization of a crossbeam slider for a high-speed machining center. The topology optimization result gives the best desirable cross-section shape whose weight was reduced by 38.8% than the original configuration. The subsequent static and dynamic design optimization reduced the weight, static and dynamic compliances by 5.7 %, 2.1% and 19.1% respectively from the topology-optimized model. The examples demonstrated the feasibility of the suggested design optimization method.
This paper deals with the topology optimized design of the riser support structures for floating production storage and offloading units (FPSOs) under global and local loading conditions. For a preliminary study and validation of the numerical approach, a simplified plate under static loading is first evaluated with the representative topology optimization methods, the Homogenization Design Method (HDM) and Density Method (DM) or Simple Isotropic Material with Penalization (SIMP). In the context of the corresponding riser support structures, the design problem is formulated such that structure shapes based on design domain variables are determined by minimizing the compliance subject to a mass target, considering the stress criterion. An initial design model is generated based on an actual FPSO riser support configuration. The topology optimization results present improved design performances under various loading conditions, while staying within the allowable limit of the offshore area.
This paper presents a new single-phase asymmetrical cascaded multilevel DC-link inverter. The proposed inverter comprises two stages. The main stage of the inverter consists of multiple similar cells, each of which is a half-bridge inverter consisting of two switches and a single DC source. All cells are connected in a cascaded manner with a fixed neutral point. The DC source values are not made equal to increase the performance of the inverter. The second circuit is a folded cascaded H-bridge circuit operating at a line frequency. One of the main advantages of this proposed topology is that it is a modular type and can thus be extended to high stages without changing the configuration of the main stage circuit. Two control schemes, namely, low switching with selective harmonic elimination and sinusoidal pulse width modulation, are employed to validate the proposed topology. The detailed approach of each control scheme and switching pulses are discussed in detail. A 150W prototype of the proposed system is implemented in the laboratory to verify the validity of the proposed topology.

A network topology has been an important factor for an efficient network management, but data collection for the network configuration has been done manually or semi automatically by a network administrator or an expert. Requirements to generate an intro-domain network topology ar usually either all IP addresses with subne $t^ernet mask or the network identification of all IP addresses. The amounts of traffic are generally high in the semi-automatic system due to using large number of low-level protocols and commands to get rather simple data. In this paper, we propose an algorithm which can be executed with only publicly available input. It can find all IP addresses as well as the network boundary of an intra-domain by using an intelligent method developed in this algorithm. The collected data will be used to draw a network map automatically by using a proposed network topology generation algorithm.hm.

Traditionally, the continuum-based topology optimization methods employing the SIMP technique have been used to design compliant mechanisms. Although they have been successful, the optimized mechanisms by the methods are usually difficult to manufacture because of their geometrical complexities. The objective of this study is to develop a topology optimization method that can produce easy-to-fabricate mechanism structure. The proposed method is a ground beam method where beam connectivity is controlled by the beam joint stiffness. In this approach, beam joint stiffness determines the mechanism configuration. Because b the ground structure beams have uniform thicknesses varying only discretely, the resulting mechanism topologies become easily manufacturable.
A new fault-tolerant control topology for open-loop motor-drive systems with Delta-connected stator windings is introduced in this paper. This new control topology enables the operation of a three-phase induction machine as a two-phase machine fed by a three-phase inverter upon a failure in one of the motor phases. This topology utilizes the "open-Delta" configuration to independently control the current in each of the two remaining healthy phases. This new control technique leads to the alleviation of any torque pulsations resulting from the consequences of the asymmetrical conditions associated with this class of faults.
