  • This paper presents the fine-shearing experimental investigation using brass sheets. Shearing including blanking, trimming, piercing, etc is one of the most frequently used processes in sheet metal manufacturing. In this study, an individual set of tooling was designed and fabricated to carry out experiment for shearing process. In order to investigate the effect of shearing surface correspond to die clearance, the profile of shearing surface was examined by using microscope. Futhermore, the relationship between shearing force and the profile of shearing surface was considered.

  • This study presents a way to construct 3D shape in STL format from 2D slice data. Nowadays ahape reconstruct has been done in many ares, the application of this method is important especially in Reverse Engineering which reconstructs original shape from cross-section data. Current RP (Rapid Prototyping) is used not only for the verification of a part designed but also for the production and tooling in more effective way. In RP technology, data should be prepared in STL format. In this paper, the way to make 3D shape data in STL format form 2D slice data is described which can be used to reconstruct an original shape in RP equipment.

  • This paper presents a method of grinding and polishing automation of precision die after CNC machining. The method employs a robot system equipped with a pneumatic spindle and a special abrasive film pad. The robote program is automatically generated off-line from a PC and downloaded to robot controller. Position and orientation data for the program is supplied from cutter contact (CC) data of NC machining process. This eliminates separate robot teaching process. This paper aims at practical automation of die finishing process which is very time consuming and suffering from shortage of workpeople. Time loss for changeover from one product to next is eliminated by off-line programming exploiting appropriate NC machining data. Dextrous 6-axis robot with rigid wrist and simple tooling enables the process applicable to larger, rather complex 3 dimensional free surfaces

  • Even as many methods and technologies have been introduced on data generation, parts orientation and layer slicing to acquire the rapid prototyping(RP) parts that have useful surface to satisfy customers' needs such as stylingldesign verification directionlindirect tooling directly from the RP machine, these trials continue to suffer from the surface roughness due to the build characteristics of RP technology. A new postprocess finishing method is suggested in this paper to overcome the surface roughness problem on the surface of the RP parts. To prevent deterioration of dimensional accuracy from the conventional grinding-only, and coating-grinding methods, 4-step surface finishing process is applied. To satisfy the various requirements from the RP oriented industrial f elds, effective procedure, coating material, grmd~ng tools and methods are employed.

SLS의 공정 파라미터 최적화에 관한 연구 (Optimization of Build Parameters in SLS Process)

  • RP(Rapid Prototyping) technology is gaining its popularity in building a prototype in all industries. SLS(Slective Laser Sintering) is one of RP technologies, which is focused on tooling processes as well as three dimension solid model. There are several factors, the length and the cross-sectional area of a part, that have an effect on build setup in SLS process. In this paper, the computation on geometrical relationship is used to slice STL file and to estimate these factors. Based on these values, the build setup parameters such as the heating temperature, the laser power, and the powder cartridge feed rate are determined by neural network approaches. The test results show that the computation time is saved and the neural network approach is able to apply to get the optimal parameters of build process within an acceptable error rate.

  • In order to ensure that the prototype corresponds as closely as possible to the serial part subsequently to be manufactured, the materials used for the prototye should, wherever possible, be identical to those used in production. In case of metallic parts, however, this demand is still not completely fulfilled by the available Rapid Prototyping techniques. Since only conventional manufacturing processes caan currentlybe used to produce metallic prototypes directly, these are extremely cost and labor intensive. For this reason, work is being undertaken worldwide to develop Selective Laser Sintering (referred to SLS) and Laser Generating for direct manufacture of metallic parts. In this paper the results of both process developments are reported. As the present results show, they have great application potentials in prototyping tools, especially molds and dies.

  • The formed tool is used to machine the unique shape of rubber seal for geometrical shaping and reduction of cutting time. The bearing rubber seal produced by hot press forming has complex geometry for the complex geometrical shape to prevent leakage of lubricant oil and influx of the dust effectively. Because it is difficult to machine the unique shape exactly by the conventional tool, the formed tool is used in machining mold of the seal. In this paper, It is performed for selection of the formed tool to investigate cutting edge wear, cutting force, and surface quality. Also, an efficient high precision machining is proposed on the experiment data.

  • Materials of the Frame hole in fishing trackle reel is made up a number large and small holes. Thus, it is difficult to effective machining. Abrasive flow machining(AFM) is useful to polish a internal or external surface of the 3-dimensional shape parts, which are used in many fields such as aerospace, automative, semi-conductor, and medical component industries. The machining process is that two hydraulic cylinders, which are located face to face, enforce abrasive media to the passage between workpiece and tooling parts alternately, and then the abrasives include in the media pass the passage and polish the surface of workpiece. The media which is made of polymer and abrasives plays the role of the tool for deburring or polishing complex shap workpiece by its viscoelastic characteristics. In this study, the abrasive media for abrasive flow machining was made by mixing viscielastic polymer with alunina and silicon carbide abrasive. Also, we present AFM device design and preliminary results of an investigation in to some aspects of the AFM process performance in fishing trackle reel.

  • Abrasive flow machining is useful to abrasive polish a internal or external surface of the free shape dimensional parts, which are used in many fields such as machine tool parts, semi-conductor, and medical component industries. The machining process is that two hydraulic cylinders, which are located surface to surface, are enforce media to the passage between workpiece and tooling part alternately, and then the abrasives included in the media pass the passage and polish the surface of workpiece. The media which is made of polymer and abrasive plays complex have workpiece by its viscoelastic characteristics. In this study, the media for AMF was made by mixing viscoelastic polymer with alumina and silicon carbide abrasive respectively. As a result, alumina include media is also the experiments of deburring the inside burr of in order to analyse the deburring machinability of abrasive flow machining according to various machining parameters which were media flow rate extrusion pressure, passage gap, media viscosity, abrasive content, and abrasive grain size.

  • The 3-dimensional complex parts which construct automobile and aerospace parts are very difficult to polish by traditional polishing method. Abrasive flow machining is useful to polish an internal or external surface of the 3-dimensional shape part. In this paper media flow between workpiece and tooling part has been simulated and the charateristics of abrasive flow machining process have been analyzed according to various machining conditions by calculating the material removal and surface roughness.
