Nondestructive Evaluation of Temporarily Repaired CFRP Laminates Subjected to Delaminations due to Localized Heating and Cyclic Loading Combined

  • The reliability of cold-bonding repair technique of carbon-fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) laminates, often used as a temporary repair for the airplane maintenance, has been evaluated during cyclic loading and localized heating by nondestructive methods. Major concern was given to the evolution of damage after repair in the form of delaminations due to localized heating and cyclic loading combined. An area of interest both on the specimen repaired by cold-bonding and the specimen without repair where delaminations were induced by localized heating and cyclic loading was monitored by acoustic emission (AE) testing and further examined by pitch-catch low-frequency bond testing, and pulse-echo high-frequency ultrasonic testing. The results showed that the reliability of cold-bonding repair would be significantly reduced by the localized heating and cyclic loading combined rather than by the cyclic loading only. AE monitoring appeared to be an effective and reliable tool to monitor the integrity of temporarily repaired CFRP laminates in terms of the structural health monitoring (SHM) philosophy.

  • AUTOSAR, a standard software platform for automotive, has been developed to manage software complexity and improve software reuseability. However Automated and standardized testing is needed to improve reliability and reduce time and effort on testing. Fundamental functionality of AUTOSAR RTE and basic software modules is guaranteed by using an AUTOSAR tool, but application software components have to be tested thoroughly. In this paper, we suggest a test system for the AUTOSAR software component using TTCN-3, a standardized testing language. Test execution system and test cases for the software component are generated automatically from AUTOSAR XML containing software design information. With the proposed testing techniques we can reduce time and effort to build the testing system.

  • Current testing(Iddq testing) on monitoring the quiescent power supply current is an efficient and effective method for CMOS bridging faults. The applicability of this technique, however, requires careful examination. Since cardinality of bridging fault is O($n^2$) and current testing requires much longer testing time than voltage testing, it is important to note that a bridging fault is untestable if the two bridged nodes have the same logic values at all times. Such faults should be identified by a good ATPG tool; otherwise, the fault coverage can become skewed. In this paper, we present an object-oriented redundant fault detection scheme for efficient current testing. Experimental results for ISCAS benchmark circuits show that the improved method is more effective than the previous ones.

  • This study proposed new approach for the information gifted discrimination test using EPL. We tried to distinguish high level thinking in the information gifted through test of this study. We categorized testing tool according to context type: simple attribute problem, complex same attribute problem, complex focus attribute problem, mathematic-verbal ability required problem. And testing tool divided into modifying scripts, guess scripts's result, using scratch program. In the effectiveness test of proposed tool, we confirmed content validity and credibility.

  • Recent evolution of communication networks has led toward increasingly a complex, large-scale protocol. Protocol conformance tests therefore, which consider only control flow, have many problems on testing data flow, transition condition, delay and so on. We propose, design, and implement the tool to solve these problems. The tool, which solves nondeterminism, generates test suites from an integrated flow graph and excludes infeasible path with reachable tree. The presented tool reduces the length of UIO sequence and is efficient partially to test the path that error rate is high. Our automatic test suite generator provides basis of protocol testing environment and high production.

  • The OPMT(Orientation-adjustable Patch-type Magnetostrictive Transducer) was proposed as a tool for generating and measuring the ultrasonic Lamb wave in plate type structures. This sensor has a lot of new features compared to the traditional piezo-type ultrasonic transducers. As an example, it does not need any kind of wiring for lunching or measuring ultrasonic waves. But it has also definite limitation for practical usage as a nondestructive testing tool in that it cannot help rotating the direction of ultrasonic wave manually. The idea for 'scanning OPMT' is proposed in this respect. Two kinds of basic ideas for rotating the wave direction not manually but electrically are proposed. The fabrication of the transducer and the testing for Identifying the primary characteristics are done for one of the proposed transducers. The results says that there are the possibilities as a new tool for NDE in that the proposed transducer follows well the characteristics of the traditional OPMT. But there are also the 1imitations to overcome.

  • In the present study, the structural safety of the bolt portion and collet tool structure of the pipe-fitting tool is analyzed by using the finite element technique. Two forces as piston forces with the magnitude of 187.5 Tons are applied to the inner and outer portions of the collet tool, respectively. A structural load of 750 Tons is applied to the bolt portion. In the analysis results, it is found that the structure becomes safe under the current loading conditions. The reliability rating of the pipe is calculated in this study. The material properties of the actual material are evaluated by using mechanical testing. Therefore, the material properties are used to carry out static structural and optimization analysis.

  • A power-plant simulation tool has been developed for training the plant operators and testing a plant control system. The simulation tool is composed of a graphic editor, a component model builder and a system simulation solver. Such new programing techniques as object-oriented modeling and GUI(Graphical User Interface) are employed in developing the simulation tool. The graphic editor is based on the OpenGL library for effective implementation of GUI while the component model builder is based on object-oriented programming for efficient generalization of component models. The developed tool has been verified through the simulation of a real power plant.

  • Achieving sustainability targets on construction projects has increasingly become one of the prime strategies for construction organizations. To provide more detailed guidance on sustainability implementation on projects, Construction Industry Institute (CII) Research Team (RT) 304 developed a catalog of the Construction Phase Sustainability Actions (CPSAs). The primary objective of this paper was the development of two support tools, the CPSA Screening Tool and the CPSA Implementation Index, that could be used to enable efficient application of CPSAs, support sustainability-related decisions, and measure CPSA implementation and performance. The authors developed the tools in four stages: conceptual, detailed planning, tool programming, and testing. The tools were then demonstrated on a capital project to confirm their efficacy and applicability. This paper presents the background, inputs and outputs, and the algorithms of each tool. The CPSA Screening Tool can prioritize the CPSAs most relevant to a project; the CPSA Implementation Index enables continuous monitoring of implementation levels.

  • This paper deals with the paddle type end of arm tool for rescue robot instead of rescue worker in dangerous environments such as fire, earthquake, national disaster and defense. It is equipped at the dual arm manipulator of the rescue robot to safely lift up an injured person. It consists of the paddle for lifting person, sensors for detecting insertion of person onto the paddle, sensor for measuring the tilting angle of the paddle, and mechanical compliance part for preventing incidental injuries. The electronics is comprised of the DAQ module to acquire the sensors data, the control module to treat the sensors data and to manage the errors, and the communication module to transmit the sensors data. After optimally designing the mechanical and electronical parts, we successfully made the paddle type end of arm tool and evaluated its performance by using specially designed jigs. The developed paddle type end of arm tool is going to be applied to the rescue robot for performance verification through field testing.
