CIMS를 위한 밀링공구관리 시스템 'TOOLMAN-II'의 개발 (Development of Tool Management System 'TOOLMAN-II' for CIMS : -on the Application of Milling Operation)

  • This paper describes the development of a tool management system of milling operations in CIM environment. The system consists of modules for tool room management, tool purchasing, tool magazine management and tool selection. The tool selection is interactively performed by the aid of the graphic icons of milling cutter. The so-called UNICODE tool coding system is also developed to unify different kinds of codes from different tool manufacturers. The system runs on IBM PC AT.

  • An effective tool management system is one of the keys to maximizing the benefits of a computer integrated manufacturing (CIM). Tool management systems, however, are often tailored to the requirement of a highly automated system. Therefore, a different approach is needed for small and medium sized mold shops. This work deals with the implementation of tool management system for milling operations in small and medium sized CIM environment of injection mold production. In this paper, a distributed management approach is proposed for efficient tool management in relatively small machining shops in mold industry. And the design and the functions of the developed system are described.

  • At present, the manufacturing industry is in a process of a great change. There is a demand for a variety of types and shorter product life. The change increases the number of different tools and frequencies of tool changes. For the most part, the tools are presetted and offset values are entered manually or via punched tapes to NC machines. Thus a large amount of capital is tied up in the tool area and considerable productive time is lost. Consequently, there is a need for improvement in tool management. This paper describes a computer controlled tool data management system which include: 1) tool identification with bar code. 2) computer aided management and updating of tool data. 3) tool data communication with tool presetter, CNC, etc.

  • In order to manage a cluster system that consists of a number servers, management aspects such as configuration management, fault management, performance management, and user management should be considered. Especially, it is necessary to monitor performances for performance and fault management. An agent in each server collects performance counters, status changes, and events occurred in normal or abnormal states. The data collected are delivered to a collector sorter and processed in a report tool for performance analysts and management decision in the cluster system point of view, by detecting fault state and tracing out resource usage, service response, and response, and states until failed. In this paper we propose an architecture modeling of a performance report tool for proactive cluster system management. Some results on a cluster system are presented.

  • As the requirement of user for robot functionality, the function and interface for controlling the robot system is more sophisticated and complicated. Accordingly development process of robot is more complicated and it takes much longer time to develop a robot system. Software development using project management tool is more important in software engineering because of the complexity of software, especially robot system. This paper proposes SEED (Software Engineering Equipment for Development), which is a web-based and integrated software engineering tool to provide independent tools for robot software development. SEED includes the document management tool, the software configuration management tool, the software testing tool on developing robot software and provide a functionality of collaborated and remote development due to WEB-based operations.

  • It is the concept of this paper to build up the convergence type of the total class service system, and the goal is to develop the education services, which are differentiated from existing digital textbooks and development tools. We establish developmental programs and convergence strategies from market analyses related to apps and digital education. Then this paper proposes 'E-Class Author Service System (ECA)' as an education service system based on the tablet PC. It is the convergence system of the app type of textbook development tool and class management system. Teachers can produce and develop class materials and textbooks using the app type of textbook development tool in ECA service system. They can also add necessary functions from the class management system for efficient class progress. ECA improves the interaction and communication between a teacher, student and parents in the sever-based network. This study expects that ECA will achieve prior occupation of the app market as an educational app development tool and reduce private education expenses.

FMS에서 공구 일정계획을 고려한 부품투입 방법 (A Part Release Method Considering Tool Scheduling in FMS)

  • A recent trend In flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) Is to utilize the Identical versatile machines with fast tool delivery devices. Unlike a conventional FMS where parts are fed to the machines with the required tools, tools are acquired from other machines using a tool delivery system and parts can be finished on the same machine In these FMS. Therefore it Is more important problem 4o plan tool flow using tool delivery system In these FMS rather than part flow In conventional FMS. According to the existing study, In FMS 20∼30 percent of the total management cost Is the cost related with tools and It Is possible to reduce the tool Inventory by 40 percent using efficient tool allocation. In this study, In FMS under dynamic tool allocation strategy, a new method of part release considering tool flow at the stage of part release Is proposed. In order to prove the efficiency of the proposed part release It is compared with other part release through simulation experiments. Performance measures in these experiments are the throughput and the number of tardy parts.

  • In order to achieve computer-oriented control and automation of manufacturing processec, a distributed NC (DNC_) system was developed for FMS under the Windows environment. The DNC system consists of conventional DNC, PMC interface and tool management modules. Real-time system conditon monitoring and control fuctions required for machine tools and machining processes were accomplished by developing a PMC interface module called MMC board. Tool condition monitoring and management was performed by the developed tool management module composed of a tool setting probe and softwares. Performance of the DNC system was confirmed on the horizontal and the vertical type machining center equipped with FANUC OMC for the large amount of experiments.

Real-time Tool Condition Monitoring for Machining Operations

  • In computer integrated manufacturing environment, tool management plays an important role in controlling tool performance for machining operations. Knowledge of tool behavior during the cutting process and effective tool-behavior prediction contribute to controlling machine costs by avioding production delays and off-target parts due to tool failure. The purpose of this paper is to review and develop the tool condition monitoring scheme for drilling operation to assure a fast corrective response to minimize the damage if tool failures occur. If one desires to maximize system through-put and product quality as well as tooling resources, within an economic environment, real-time tool sensing system and information processing system can be coupled to provide the necessary information for the effective tool management. The example is demonstrated as to drilling operation when the aluminum composites are drilled with carbide-tipped HSS drill bits. The example above is limited to the situation that the tool failure mode of drill bits is wear.
