  • Stress reaction can be shown widely in the systems of psychology, endocrinology, immunology and so on. Stress promotes catecholamine from the autonomic nerve system, and this activates the sympathetic nerve system. As the sympathetic nerve system is activated, high blood pressure, tachycardia, vertigo, anxiety, diaphoresis, myotonic reaction and others can happen. Autonomic imbalance is the syndrome that people suffer from various symptoms accompanying no organic lesions and no psychological disorders by losing the hormonies between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve system. We experienced a 55 year-old female who complained of sudden abdominal pain after being frightened at trouble with her husband. Her abdominal pain was very characteristic, "Something is like rising in my abdomen.", that occurred several times a day. We diagnosed 'Bun-Ton Disease' from her abdominal sign. Several oriental medicine books recorded aspects of Bun-Ton disease and treatments, we had given herbal medicine and treated acupuncture be based on those. Results from studies to date suggest the Bun-Ton Disease's main cause is fright or shock, and they stimulate releasing epinephrine or norepinephrine, that result in various symptoms. In this case report, we will present this patient's case and review the Bun-Ton Disease.

  • Through this study, a conceptual design for the next generation high-speed EMU has been derived to meet the crash worthiness requirements of the Korean rollingstock safety regulation. The crashworthiness regulations require some performance requirements for two heavy collision accident scenarios; a train-to-train collision at the relative speed of 36 km/h, and a collision against a standard deformable obstacle of 15 ton at 110km/h. The complete train set will be composed of 2TC-6M with 13 ton axle load, which is different from KTX with the power car of 17 ton axle load. Using theoretical and numerical analyses, a crashworthy conceptual design was derived in terms of mean crush forces and energy absorptions for principal crushable structures and devices. The derived conceptual design was evaluated and improved using one dimensional dynamic simulations for the bar-spring-damper-mass model. It is shown from the simulation results that the suggested conceptual design can easily satisfy domestic crashworthiness requirements.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate and improve the pre-treatment facility for foodwaste and sewage sludge mixture treatment. The process of foodwaste pre-treatment consists of storage, classification with crushing, and thickening. The effluent of sewage treatment facility was used as the diluting and washing water. The panicle size of foodwaste after pre-treatment was almost under 2mm, the mixture of foodwastes and sewage sludge showed an advantage to the anaerobic digestion. The amount of gas production increased from 0.8ton/day ($CH_4$ : 0.5ton/day) to 3.5ton/day ($CH_4$ : 2.3ton/day) after the anaerobic digestion of the foodwastes and sewage sludge mixture. The amount of sludge cake increased from 11.2ton/day to 21.2ton/day. Therefore, the proper operation of the foodwaste pre-treatment facility was contributed to the efficient anaerobic digestion of foodwaste and sewage sludge mixture treatment.

  • A rainwater harvesting device was developed for runoff flow harvesting in a small stream or channel and its performance was evaluated in small fields. The rainwater harvesting device has slits on its side of cylindrical volume in 15 cm diameter and 70 cm length, which is designed to increase its water flow harvesting capacity. The maximum collectable water quantity was about 0.0022 ton/sec (130 L/min). Rainwater harvesting device were installed in two locations (P1, P2). P1 is a point for rainfall runoff flow harvesting. P2 is a point for ordinary flow harvesting. During this study, total rainfall depth was 334.5 mm. Runoff of 1,722 ton and 7,984 ton occurred in P1 and P2, and 273 ton and 125 ton were collected by this rainwater harvesting device. Harvesting efficiency was calculated as 15.85 % and 1.57 % in P1 and P2. Clogging of screen filter media in the cylinder due to soil and suspended solids has lowered the harvesting efficiency. However, it was possible to harvest 30 ton/month of rainwater harvesting and it is expected that it will help to solve short-term water shortage.

  • For this study the 4 sub-watersheds Okdong A, Hankang B, Jecheon A and Hankang C which are the main streams of the Han River within the mid-level region of Chungju Dam are selected and the analysis of soils has been carried out through the soil basic survey. When it comes to the soil erosion amount the soil nutrient load has been calculated by utilizing the RUSLE erosion equation. In case of the data related to the measurement of water flow and quality the information available from the "Water Information System" one of the websites run by the Ministry of Environment has been used to calculate the water pollution load. The correlation between the soil nutrient load and the water pollutant load has been analyzed through making comparison. According to the results related to the soil nutrient load of each sub-watershed the Hankang C shows the highest values TOC 29,986.92 ton/yr, TN 3,860.33 ton/yr and TP 973.97 ton/yr respectively. Even when it comes to the loads related to water quality the Hankang C shows also comparatively high values TOC 6,625.64 ton/yr, TN 7,335.01 ton/yrand TP 145.49 ton/yr respectively. The soil nutrient loads of the sub-watersheds are shown to increase towards the lower stream meaning the load increases in the order of Hankang CHankang B and Okdong A. When it comes to the water pollutant load the value goes up along down the water system meaning the load gets higher in the order of Hankang C, Hankang B and Okdong A while utilizing the mainstream within the mid-level region of Chungju Dam as the basis. The correlation study showed that the nutrient content of soil is proportional to the pollutant load in water with the strongest positive correlation with TOC.

  • Geographically Imha basin is adjacent to Andong basin, but the occurrence of turbid water in each reservoir by storm events shows big differences. Hence, it is very important to identify the reason for these large differences. This study compared and analyzed soil erosion using the semi-empirical soil erosion model, RUSLE for both Imha and Andong basin, especially with emphasis on high-density turbid water. The agricultural district, which is the most vulnerable to soil erosion, was intensively analyzed based on land cover map produced by Ministry of Environment. As a result, the portion of the agricultural area is 11.88% for Andong basin, while it is 14.95% for Imha basin. Also all RUSLE factors excepts practice factor turned out to be higher for Imha basin. This means that the basin characteristics such as soil texture, terrain, and land cover for Imha basin is more vulnerable to soil erosion. Estimation of soil erosion by RUSLE for Andong and Imha basin is 1,275,806 ton and 1,501,608 ton, respectively, showing higher soil erosion by 225,802 ton for Imha basin.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of mulching of easily-decomposable organic materials including rice powder and corn starch on rice paddy fields. The treatments were including seven mulching materials each consisted of rice powder [Rice], starch with black color [Starch-B] and transparent [Starch-T] and stone powder [Stone], and conventional vinyl [Conventional], no-mulching without herbicide [Control-O] and no-mulching with herbicide [Control-C]. Rice growth and yield were different among the treatments; the highest yields were observed for [Rice] ($6.51ton\;ha^{-1}$) and [Conventional] ($6.47ton\;ha^{-1}$) followed by [Starch-T] ($6.25ton\;ha^{-1}$) and [Stone] ($6.20ton\;ha^{-1}$) which is comparable to the [Control-C] ($6.15ton\;ha^{-1}$). However, [Starch-B] showed lower rice yield ($4.93ton\;ha^{-1}$) than the [Conventional] or [Control-C]. Mean soil temperature ranged form 23.6 to $24.1^{\circ}C$ with the highest temperature for [Rice] treatment, and cumulative soil temperature was also significantly higher in the [Rice] treatment. Among the soil parameters, electrical conductivity, organic matter content, and phosphorus concentration were also different among the treatments. The amount of earthworm casting was higher for [Rice] treatment ($17.7kg\;m^{-2}$) compared to the others ($5.5{\sim}9.8kg\;m^{-2}$). It was suggested that mulching of rice fields with organic materials containing rice powder is better than others in respected to rice yield and earthworm activity.

  • Through the integration of USLE and GIS, the methodology to estimate the soil loss was developed, and applicated to the Sacheon river in Gangrung. Using GIS, spatial analysis such as watershed boundary determination, flow routing. slope steepness calculation was done. Spatial information from the GIS application was given for each grid. With soil and land use map, information about soil classification and land use was given for each grid too. Based upon these data, thematic maps about the factors of USLE were made. We estimated the soil loss by overlaying the thematic maps. In this manner, we can assess the degree of soil loss for each grid using GIS. Annual average soil loss of Sacheon river watershed is 1.36 ton/ha/yr. Soil loss in forest, dry field, and paddy field is 0.15 ton/ha/yr, 27.04 ton/ha/yr, 0.78 ton/ha/yr respectively. The area of dry field, which is 4% of total area, is $2.4km^2$. But total soil loss of dry field is 6561 ton/yr, and it occupies 84.9 % of total soil loss eroded in Sacheon river watershed. Comparing with the 11.2 ton/ha/yr of an average soil loss tolerance for cropland, provision for the soil loss in dry field is necessary. Run-off and water quality of Sacheon river were measured two times in flood season: from July 24, 1998 to July 28 and from September 29 to October 1. As the run-off of the river increased, SS, TN, TP concentrations and pollutant loadings increased. SS, TN, TP loads of Sacheon river discharged during the 2 heavy rains were 21%, 39%, and 19% of the total pollutant loadings generated in the Sacheon river watershed for one year. We can see that much pollutants are discharged in short period of flood season.
