The objective of this study is to provide the information on the techniques of manufacturing and experiment in small scale modeling of precast concrete(P.C.)large panel structures. The adopted scale was 1/5th 4types of experiments were performed : material tests for model concrete and model reinforcement, compressive test of horizontal joint, shear test of vertical joint and cyclic static test of 2-story subassemblage structure. Based on the experimental results, the following conclusions are drawn: (1)Model concrete may have in general larger compressive strength than expected. (2) Model reinforcement can show less ductility if the annealing processes were performed without using vaccuum tube. (3) Failure modes of horizontal and vertical joints were almost same for both prototype and model. But the strength of model appears to be higher than required by similitude law. (4)Hysteretic behavior of 1/5 scale subassemblage model can be made quite similar to prototype's if the ductility of model reinforcement and compressive strength of model concrete could be representative of those of prototype.
The modeling method to support product development processes (PDP) must have certain characteristics including the ability to represent multiple viewpoints of the product development and integrate with currently available analysis and design methods based on CE concept. This paper describes the reference model to support multiple viewpoints (PPO: Products, Processes, and Organizations/Resources viewpoints) of the product development processes, from which each model (Products model, Processes model, and Organizations/Resources model) can be extracted, as well as produces PPO data schema. This reference model has associative relationships among the products, processes, and organizations/resources. To allow the extensibility to support design evolution, we propose structured dat representation methods using semantic network, which can be constructed through first-order logic. The product development processes is so represented by specifying entities and semantic relationships among them hat he appropriate information can be accessed and all of the relevant attributes about the entities can be retrieved simultaneously.

A simple mathematical model of simultaneous combined action of environmental agents has been proposed to describe the synergistic interaction of microwave and high ambient temperature treatment on animal heating. The model suggests that the synergism is caused by the additional effective damage arising from an interaction of sublesions induced by each agent. These sublesions are considered to be ineffective if each agent is taken individually. The additional damage results in a higher body temperature increment when compared with that expected for an independent action of each agent. The model was adjusted to describe the synergistic interaction, to determine its greatest value and the condition under which it can be achieved. The prediction of the model was shown to be consistent with experimental data on rabbit heating. The model appears to be appropriate and the conclusions are valid.
This study was conducted to investigate dynamic characteristics of agricultural tractor with a particular interest in ride vibrations when it is subjected to various excitation forces. As the first part of it this paper describes development of dynamic model of a tractor-trailer system and its equations of motions. An 3 dimensional 16-degree-of-freedom dynamic model for a tractor-trailer system was developed and its equations of motions were derived, which will be used to investigate the effects of irregular ground surface and excitation forces due to the engine mounted on the tractor. And the excitation forces were also formulated analytically. The transition matrix method and QR algorithm were proposed for numerical solution of the equation of motions fur the developed model. The later parts of the study will include a proof of the model and optimization from which tractors can be designed to minimize the ride vibrations. This will be presented in the second and third papers to be followed shortly.
Flew control devices, such as flow liners, are frequently introduced in a cavitation tunnel in order to reduce the tunnel blockage effect, when a three-dimensional wake distribution is simulated using a complete ship model or a dummy model. In order to estimate the tunnel wall effect and to evaluate the effect of flow liners on the simulated wake distribution, a surface panel method is adopted for the calculation of the flow around a ship model and flow liners installed in a rectangular test section off cavitation tunnel. Calculation results on the Sydney Express ship model show that the tunnel wall effect on the hull surface pressure distribution is negligible for less than 5% blockage and can be appreciable for more than 20% blockage. The flow liners accelerate the flow near the afterbody of the ship model, so that the pressure gradient there becomes more favorable and accordingly the boundary layer thickness would be reduced. Since the resulting wake distribution is assumed to resemble the full scale wake, flow liners can also be used to simulate an estimated full scale wake without modifying the ship model. Boundary taper calculation should be incorporated in order to correlate the calculated wake distribution with the measured one.
In this paper, we propose a dynamic model of an escalator which can be used to build a design database. The model permits to estimate the forces applied to the structure by calculating three primary types of forces; the torque required to operate the escalator, the reaction forces at part interconnection points, and contact forces between parts. These forces can then be used to calculate dynamic stresses in the structure which is required to estimate the durability of the structure. Result of the computer model are compared with testing results. This simulation model is used to construct a design database. So when we design a new escalator, this design database can be used to make a new simulation model which makes it possible for us to do a Knowledge-Based-Design.
Finite element analysis is one of the important methods to study the structural performance. Due to the simplification, discretization and error of structural parameters, numerical model errors always exist. Besides, structural characteristics may also change because of material aging, structural damage, etc., making the initial finite element model cannot simulate the operational response of the structure accurately. Based on Bayesian methods, the initial model can be updated to obtain a more accurate numerical model. This paper presents the work on the field test, modal identification and model updating of a Chinese reinforced concrete pagoda. Based on the ambient vibration test, the acceleration response of the structure under operational environment was collected. The first six translational modes of the structure were identified by the enhanced frequency domain decomposition method. The initial finite element model of the pagoda was established, and the elastic modulus of columns, beams and slabs were selected as model parameters to be updated. Assuming the error between the measured mode and the calculated one follows a Gaussian distribution, the posterior probability density function (PDF) of the parameter to be updated is obtained and the uncertainty is quantitatively evaluated based on the Bayesian statistical theory and the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm, and then the optimal values of model parameters can be obtained. The results show that the difference between the calculated frequency of the finite element model and the measured one is reduced, and the modal correlation of the mode shape is improved. The updated numerical model can be used to evaluate the safety of the structure as a benchmark model for structural health monitoring (SHM).
Ground water flow can be studied with model test. Model test of ground water works are necessary for economic and safe design of the works. Also influence of the ground water flow to the durability and safety of hydraulic structures can be studied with this model. a. Sand model ; Water flow through porous media is the principle of sand model. Darcy's formula is the basic equation, $q=k{\frac{dh}{ds}}^{\circ}. The effect of the ground water flow on the grain system itself is represented with this model only. b. Hele-Shaw model ; In this model use is made of the viscous flow analogy. Viscous fluid such as glycerine flowing through two parallel plates depends on Poiseuille law, $q=-c{\frac{dh}{ds}}$. The analogue can be used vertically and horizontally. c. Heat model ; This is based on the analogy of the Fourier's law for heat conduction and Darcy's law for ground water flow. Especially unsteady problem can be studied with this model. A difficulty of the construction of this model is the isolation, which has to prevent losses of the heat. d. Electirc model ; Ohm's law for electric current is analogous to Darcy's law. Resistance material such as metal foil, graphite block, water with salt added, gelatine with salt added, ete. is connected to electric sources and resistor, and equi-voltage line is detected with galvanometer, $N_aCl$, $CuSo_4$, etc. are used as salt in the model. e. Membrane model ; This model is based on the facts that the deflection of a thin membrane obeys Laplace's equation if there is no load in the direction perpendicular to the membrane, and if the dellection is small.
Objective: The aim of this study is to model all levels of situation awareness (SA), which would be able to predict situation awareness quantitatively. Background: When measuring situation awareness, directly measuring SA methods such as SAGAT and SART have been utilized. Several approaches (cognitive modeling approaches) were introduced to model SA but level 3 SA was not completed. For real-life situation, however, it is necessary to detect the problematic level of SA rather than overall SA. Therefore, we proposed a new model of all levels of SA in this study. Method: In order to model all levels of SA, this study chose factors in ACT-R architecture through literature review. ATC (Air Traffic Control)-related simulation task was video-taped to analyze human behaviors in order to model all levels of SA including level 3. Results: As a result, regression analyses show that cognitive activities (neural activations) represented for all levels of SA were highly correlated with SAGAT. Conclusion: In conclusion, neural activations in ACT-R could be proved to be effective to model all levels of SA. Application: Our SA model could be used to predict all levels of SA quantitatively without directly measuring the SA of operators.
HEC-HMS model should be calibrated to be applied to these basins in Gangwon-do unlike the general basins. In the study, it is investigated whether the HEC-HMS model may be applied or not to Naerinchon basin where is the typical basin of Gangwon-do Additionally, the straightforword module of HEC-HMS for simulating the hydrologic characteristic of Gangwon-do basins well will be suggested by comparison of the numerical results with the observed data. The hydrologic results estimated by several modules such as Clark, SCS and Snyder methods in HEC-HMS model have been compared with the observed data for 1999~2000 storm events. It is concluded that Clark method are relatively applicable to the basins in Gangwon-do rather than the others methods. The parametric studies for HEC-HMS model should be studied further in order to apply to Gangwon-do basins more accurately.
