  • Titanium oxide ($TiO_2$) thin films were fabricated by unbalanced magnetron (UBM) sputtering. The fabricated $TiO_2$ films were treated by oxygen plasma under various RF powers. We investigated the characteristics of oxygen plasma treatment on the surface, structural, and physical properties of $TiO_2$ films prepared at various plasma treatment RF powers. UBM sputtered $TiO_2$ films exhibited higher contact angle value, smooth surface, and amorphous structure. However, the rms surface roughness $TiO_2$ films were rough, and the contact angle value was decreased with the increase of the plasma treatment RF power Also, the hardness value of $TiO_2$ film as physical properties was slightly increased with the increase of the plasma treatment RF power. In the results, the performance of $TiO_2$ films for self cleaning critically depended on the with the plasma treatment RF power.

  • Titania nanotube(TNT), which is a tube shaped thin film manufactured by anodizing titanium under $F^-$ ion electrolyte, has photo activity. Distilled water and formamide were used as solvent, and HF, NaF, $NH_4F$ were used as main $F^-$ ions for the electrolyte. The length and the diameter of TNT increased as the voltage and anodizing time increased. TNT prepared by anodizing was a very ordered tube, and had a maximum length of 13.7 ${\mu}m$ depending on the conditions of manufacturing. Titania prepared by anodizing was amorphous, and became an anatase crystal after heat treatment.

  • The ICP-CVD (inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition) process was applied to the deposition of $TiB_2$ films. For plasma generation, 13.56 MHz r.f. power was supplied to 2-turn Cu coil placed inside chamber. And the gas mixture of $TiCl_4,\;BCl_3,\;H_2$ and Ar was used for $TiB_2$ deposition. $TiB_2$ films with high hardness (<40 GPa) were obtained at extremely low deposition temperature $(250^{\circ}C)$, and the films hardness increased with ICP power and gas flow ratio of $TiCl_4/BCl_3$. The film structure was changed from (100) preferred orientation to random orientation with increasing RF power. It is supposed that the enhanced hardness of films was caused by a strong Ti-B chemical bonding of stoichiometric $TiB_2$ films and film densification induced by high density plasma.

  • Single phases of multi-component oxides films, ZrTiO4 and Ta2Zr6O17, could be synthesized by using the combinatorial approach through surface sol-gel route, coating the appropriate mole ratio of 100 mM zirconium butoxide, tantalum butoxide and titanium butoxide precursors on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si (100) substrate, following pyrolysis at 450 oC, and annealing them at 770 oC. Both the films and bulks of ZrTiO4 and Ta2Zr6O17 showed very stable dielectric properties in temperature range, ?140 to 60 oC, and frequency range, 100 Hz to 1 MHz, promising their applications in wide range of temperatures and frequencies. The dielectric constants of the films were lower and a little more dependent on frequency than those of the bulks. The reduction of dielectric property in the film was mainly due to the interfacial effects that worked as series and parallel-connected capacitances toward the substantial film capacitance.

  • Recently, various film coated insert tools have been used in order to improve tool life by several different vapor deposition or chemical vapor deposition. Especially, TiN coated drills have been broadly studied because of improving drill performance in terms of drill life, work quality and its brilliant color. Nevertheless, because of the poor adhesion between TiN film and drill, it was difficult to attain the better drill performance. Therefore, to improve adhesion of TiN films, we sputtered titanium as interlayer prior to TiN deposition on drill by PECVD(Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition). The results indicate that Ti/TiN coated drills achieve about 2.6 times life improvement, while TiN coated drills only 2 times. Wear characteristics of tested drills were examined using SEM, and the results were correlated with drill life and roughness of drilled holes.

  • Titanium-doped indium oxide (ITiO) films were prepared on soda-lime glass substrate using a magnetic null discharge (MND) sputter source. The ITiO thin films containing 10wt.% Ti showed the minimum resistivity of $\rho=5.5{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}-cm$. The optical transmittance increases from 70% at 450 nm to 80% at 700 nm in visible spectrum. Photoelectron peaks for In 3d, Ti 2p, O 1s and C1s were detected for the ITiO film in the binding energy range of 0 to 1100 eV. The surface roughness of the sample showed a change from 10 nm to 50 nm. The ITiO film used for TCO layer of DSCs exhibited an energy conversion efficiency of about 3.8% at light intensity of 100 mW/$cm^2$.

  • A thin film transistor (TFT) has been fabricated using the amorphous 0.5 wt% Si doped zinc-tin-oxide (a-0.5 SZTO) with different electrodes made of either aluminium (Al) or titanium/aluminium(Ti/Al). Contact resistance and total channel resistance of a-0.5SZTO TFTs have been investigated and compared using the transmission line method (TLM). We measured the total resistance of 1.0×102 Ω/cm using Ti/Al electrodes. This result is due to Ti, which is a material known for its adhesion layer. We found that the Ti/Al electrode showed better contact characteristics between the channel and electrodes compared with that made of Al only. The former showed a less contact and total resistance. We achieved high performance of the TFTs characteristic, such as Vth of 2.6 V, field effect mobility of 20.1 cm2 V−1s−1, S.S of 0.9 Vdecade−1, and on/off current ratio of 9.7×106 A. It was demonstrated that the Ti/Al electrodes improved performance of TFTs due to enhanced contact resistance.

  • Titanium nitride (TiN) thin films are widely used for hard coatings due to their superior hardness. In this paper, we wanted see how the films properties are changed according to DC power. TiN thin films were deposited by direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering method using TiN compound target on silicon substrates. The films structural properties are examined by X-ray Diffractions (XRD) and tribological properties are measured by nano-indentation, nano-scratch tester, nano-stress tester. Especially in DC power of 150 W, the maximum hardness and the minimum residual stress of TiN film exhibited about 25 GPa and 1 GPa, respectively. And also, the critical load of TiN film prepared by magnetron sputtering method were measured over 30 N.

  • Stainless Steel is being used widely for various purposes due to its good corrosion resistance. There have been many researches to produce colored stainless steel by several methods such as anodizing and ion-plating. In this experiment, we $Ti_XN$(C,O) on the films SUS304, aluminium, and glass substrates with DC magentron sputterinng system made by Leybold Hereus, and strdied the structur, corrsion and pit characture of the TiXN observed by TeM image was black and whink and white columnar hed a very fine(200$\AA$) dense sturcture, and the diffraction resistance at the $3{\times}10_6A/\textrm{cm}^2$ and $10_{10}\times{cm}^2$current density were obtained in the under-stoichiometry $Ti_xN$ compound of Ar/$N_2$(Ar:$N_2$=100:6, titanium-rich compound) and the over-stoichiometry compound of Ar/$N_2$((Ar:$N_2$=60:15) respectively. When the thiness was over 1.64$\mu\textrm{m}$, good pit resistance could be obtained and its improvement was especially affected by perfect surfaceface. Typical TiN anodic polarzation curves of very unstable corrosion were observed by $Ti_xN$ film on the glass and perfect film of 3.28$\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness.

  • Highly self-cleaning thin films of $TiO_2-SiO_2$ co-doped with Ag and F are prepared by the sol-gel method. The asprepared thin films consist of bottom $SiO_2$ and top $TiO_2$ layers which are modified by doping with F, Ag and F-Ag elements. XRD analysis confirms that the prepared thin film is a crystalline anatase phase. UV-vis spectra show that the light absorption of $Ag-F-TiO_2/SiO_2$ thin films is tuned in the visible region. The self-cleaning properties of the prepared films are evaluated by a water contact angle measurement under UV light irradiation. The photocatalytic performances of the thin films are studied using methylene blue dye under both UV and visible light irradiation. The $Ag-F-TiO_2/SiO_2$ thin films exhibit higher photocatalytic activity under both UV and visible light compared with other samples of pure $TiO_2$, Ag-doped $TiO_2$, and F-doped $TiO_2$ films.
