Gas phase Photocatalytic Oxidation of PCE with $TiO_2$ ($TiO_2$를 이용한 PCE의 기상 광산화처리)

  • Gas phase photocatalytic oxidation of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) under 370 nm ultra-violet irradiation was investigated with TiO$_2$ catalyst. During the photocatalytic oxidation of PCE vapor several kinds of intermediate were produced, and the reaction pathways were proposed on the basis of the production sequency of the intermediates. The intermediates in the pathways of PCE oxidation were hexachloroethane, pentachlotoethane, 1, 1, 2-trichloroethane, carbon tetrachl-oride, dichloroacetylchloride, chloroform, 1,1-dichloroethane, phosgene, CO, $CO_2$, HCl, Cl$_2$.

  • To increase the capacity of hydrogen adsorption, transition metals were adopted as catalyst. The PAN-based CNFs involving transition metal were obtained by electrospinning method and heat treatment. To study the surface of carbon fibers, SEM analysis was conducted. The mass of transition metals were spreaded or covered among CNFs. XRD and EDX analysis were used to confirm transition metals on the surface of carbon fibers. Volumetric method was used for studying the capacity of hydrogen adsorption on the carbon fibers involving transition metals. In this study. vanadium has the best characteristics among chromium, titanium, and copper for hydrogen adsorption.

A Study on Degradation of Nonylphenol Polyethoxylate Metabolites Using Uv / Photocatalytic Silicagel Treatment

  • Nonylphenol polyetoxylates (NPnEOs) metabolites; nonylphenol (NP), nonylphenol monoethoxylate (NP1EO), nonylphenoxyacetic acid (NPEC) (collectively referred to "NPE-c") were examined for their degradations by using of lab-scale UV/photocatalytic silicagel (ultraviolet photocatalytic degradation in the presence of silicagel coated with titanium dioxide as a catalyst) reactor. NPE-c degradations by UV/photocatalytic silicagel treatment reached approximately 85-93 % after 40 min irradiation independently of its initial concentration (between ca. 0.5 and 2.0mg/l). Any intermediates under the NPE-c degradation were not identified by GC/MS sample analysis. Degradations of NPE-c were followed pseudo first-order kinetics. Then, the effectiveness of UV/photocatalytic silicagel treatment for degradation of NPE-c was in the order of NPEC > NP > NP1EO.

Photo-catalytic Properties of TiO2 Nanotube Arrays Sensitized with In2S3 under Visible-light Irradiation

  • In this work, we report on the preparation of the anodically-grown $TiO_2$ nanotube arrays sensitized with $In_2S_3$ nanoparticles by using the SILAR (successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction) process. We evaluate the photo-catalytic properties of the prepared hetero-structures under visible-light illumination. The results reveal that the $TiO_2/In_2S_3$ system has enhanced photo-catalytic characteristics including higher chopping height. Improved performance of the heterojunction is attributed to the narrower band gap of $In_2S_3$ and its favorable position within the conduction band relative to that of $TiO_2$.

Syndiotactic Polymerization of Styrene Catalyzed by Dinuclear (Cyclopentadienyl) (Aryloxy) Titanium(IV) Complexes with Polymethylene Bridge (폴리메틸렌 가지로 연결된 이핵 아릴옥시 티타늄 화합물을 이용한 스티렌의 신디오탁틱 중합)

  • A series of dinuclear half-sandwich titanium complexes with aryloxy substituent at titanium$[(\eta^5-cyclopentadienyl)(aryloxy)TiCl_2]_2[(CH_2)_n]$ (n=3, n=6, n=9) have been successfully synthesized and their styrene polymerization properties have been investigated. All complexes are characterized by $^1H\;NMR,\;^{13}C\;NMR$, elemental analysis, and mass spectrometry. In order to examine the catalytic properties of the dinuclear complexes styrene polymerization has beer conducted in the presence of MMAO. It was found that (i) all the prepared complexes were very effective catalyst for the production of SPS (syndiotactic polystyrene), (ii) the complex with the longest bridge between the two active sites exhibited greatest catalytic activity among the three catalysts, but produced SPS with the smallest molecular weight, (iii) the activities of dinuclear half-titanocens with aryloxy substitution at titanium metal were greater than those of the chloride substituted compounds. These results indicate that not only the nature of the bridge between the two active sites but also the property of substituents at the metal exert a significant influence on the polymerization behaviors of the dinuclear half-titanocene.

Synthesis of Aliphatic Ester-Carbonate Copolymer (지방족 에스터-카보네이트 공중합체의 합성)

  • An ester-carbonate copolymer was synthesized, in which carbonate was inserted into a biodegradable aliphatic polyester, poly(butylene succinate) (PBS), to modify its mechanical properties. The synthesis was carried out by condensation reactions in two steps. In the first step, oligo(butylene succinate) was prepared by the reaction of succinic acid with 1,4-butanediol (BD). In the second step, it was reacted with oligohexamethylenecarbonate diol (OHMCG) to prepare the ester-carbonate copolymer. Titanium(IV) isopropoxide (TIP) was used as a catalyst for the reaction. The structure of the copolymer was confirmed by FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR and the thermal behavior and mechanical properties were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and universal testing machine (UTM), respectively. It was found that optimum amount of the catalyst for the formation of high molecular weight copolymer was 1wt% for succinic acid. When the BD:OHMCG is in the range 149:1~249:1, the copolymer with high viscosity was obtained. As the OHMCG content was increased, melting temperature ($T_m$) of the copolymer was decreased. When BD:OHMCG is 149:1, the copolymer showed a increase in ultimate strain by two times and the slight decrease in modulus compared to those of PBS.

Second-Order Nonlinear Optical Properties of Organically Modified Titania Thin Film (유기염료가 복합화된 타이타니아 박막재료의 이차비선형광학특성에 관한 연구)

  • The polymeric titania sol was prepared via partial hydrolysis of titanium isopropoxide and its characteristics were investigated. The effect of solvent, catalyst and water content on the sol stability was investigated. The shear viscosities of sol solution at different temperatures were measured to determine the gel time. Employing the spin coating technique, optically clear and transparent titanium oxide thin film was fabricated. Even after doped with second-order nonlinear optical(NL0) active monomers, the film quality was maintained very homogeneous. The film was corona-poled under 3~ 5kV at 50~$100^{\circ}C$ range. The electro-optic coefficient, $r_{33}$ was measured to be 1.5~5pm/V using the wavelength, 632.8nm from He-Ne laser.

CNT Growth Behavior on Ti Substrate by Catalytic CVD Process with Temperature Gradient in Tube Furnace (촉매 화학기상증착 공정에서 온도구배 설정을 통한 타이타늄 기판에서의 CNT 성장 거동)

  • In this study, modified catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) method was applied to control the CNTs (carbon nanotubes) growth. Since titanium (Ti) substrate and iron (Fe) catalysts react one another and form a new phase ($Fe_2TiO_5$) above $700^{\circ}C$, the decrease of CNT yield above $800^{\circ}C$ where methane gas decomposes is inevitable under common CCVD method. Therefore, we synthesized CNTs on the Ti substrate by dividing the tube furnace into two sections (left and right) and heating them to different temperatures each. The reactant gas flew through from the end of the right tube furnace while the Ti substrate was placed in the center of the left tube furnace. When the CNT growth temperature was set $700/950^{\circ}C$ (left/right), CNTs with high yield were observed. Also, by examining the micro-structure of CNTs of $700/950^{\circ}C$, it was confirmed that CNTs show the bamboo-like structure.

Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(ethylene oxide) Derivatives Containing Carbonate Linkages (고분자 주사슬에 카보네이트 관능기가 도입된 새로운 폴리에틸렌 옥사이드 유도체의 합성 및 분석)

  • In order to obtain PEO with reduced crystallinity, novel PEO derivatives containing carbonate linkages in the main chain have been synthesized by the reaction of various molecular weight poly (ethylene glycol)s (PEGs) with dimethyl carbonate (DMC) in the presence of $H_2SO_4$ to yield methyl carbonate terminated PEGs, followed by condensation reaction under vacuum in the presence of titanium isopropoxide (TiP) catalyst. The number average molecular weight of PEGs used was in the range of 200 and 600 g/mol. The structure and compositions of the resulting polymers were characterized by $^1$H-NMR and $^{13}C-NMR$. Their thermal behavior and molecular weight were characterized by DSC/TGA and GPC, respectively.
