  • In order to lower porosity of the porous silica, titanium alkoxide solution was filled in the pore of silica in the heating-vacuum condition. The specific surface area of modified samples was decreased effectively from 900 m$^2$/g to 100 m$^2$/g. (The aggregation phenomena in modified samples were improved fairly.) Samples were heated at 600 , and then the titanium alkoxide in the pore was decomposed completely to titanium oxide from TGA-DTA measurement. From SEM result, it was evident that titanium oxide did not coat the surface of the silica. The modified samples were analyzed using SEM, DTA-TGA, BET, and UV-visible spectrometer.

  • Titanium oxide nanotube arrays were fabricated by the anodization of pure titanium thin film deposited at $500^{\circ}C$ on silicon substrates. The titania nanotubes were grown by anodization in nonaqueous-base electrolytes at different potentials between 5 V and 30 V. $TiO_2$ nanotube array with a small pore diameter of 40 nm and long titanium oxide layer of $4\;{\mu}m$ was obtained. The $TiO_2$ nanotube array was used as a porous electrode for quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). Nanoporous morphology of electrode will increase the sensitivity of microbalance.

  • For given electrolytes, different behaviors of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) and anodic titanium oxide (ATO) during electrochemical thinning are explained by ionic and electronic current modes. Branched structures are unavoidably created in AAO since the switch of ionic to electronic current is slow, whereas the barrier oxide in ATO is thinned without formation of the branched structures. In addition, pore opening can be possible in ATO if chemical etching is performed after the thinning process. The thinning was optimized for complete pore opening in ATO and potential-current behavior is interpreted in terms of ionic current-electronic current switching.

  • Membrane clogging or fouling of the membrane caused by organic, inorganic, and biological on the surface is one of the main obstacles to achieve high flux over a long period of the membrane filtration process. So researchers have been many attempts to reduce membrane fouling and found that there is a close relationship between membrane surface hydrophilicity and membrane fouling, such that the same conditions, a greater hydrophilicity were less prone to fouling. Nanotechnology in the past decade is provided numerous opportunities to examine the effects of metal nanoparticles on the both hydrophilic and antibacterial properties of the membrane. In the present study the improvement of hydrophilic and antimicrobial properties of the membrane was evaluated by adding nanoparticles of titanium dioxide and copper oxide. For this purpose, 4% copper oxide and titanium dioxide nanoparticles with a ratio of 0, 30, 50, and 70% of copper oxide added to the polymeric membrane and compare to the pure polymeric membrane. Comparison experiments were performed on E. coli PTCC1998 in two ways disc and tube and also to evaluate membrane hydrophilic by measuring the contact angle and diameter of pores and analysis point SEM has been made. The results show that the membrane-containing nanoparticle has antibacterial properties and its impact by increasing the percentage of copper oxide nanoparticles increases.

  • We investigated the oxide thickness and color evolution with the oxidation temperatures between $370^{\circ}C$ and $950^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes in an electric furnace. Oxide thickness and color index were determined by cross sectional field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) images and digital camera images, respectively. We confirmed that thermal oxidation was suitable for the mass production of color-titanium products, while coloring process window was narrow compared with anodizing oxidation process.

  • One of the important phase of black titanium oxide is $Ti_4O_7$ which has the excellent properties such as the greatest electrical conductivity among the titanium oxides, chemical resistance against acidic and alkalic conditions and electro-wave absorption etc., so it has been considered as a promising material to be used widely all over the parts of industries. In this study, $Ti_4O_7$ phase was successfully synthesized by the reaction of TiO$_2$/ Mg system. With the change of the mole of TiO$_2$to Mg, the most excellent blackness was appeared in the 3.5 mole which was the smaller amount than the stoichiometric 4.0 mole. In addition, we found that the blackness decreased as the mole ratio of reactent increased. With decreasing particle size of magnesium, blackness of titanium oxide increased. The reaction property was changed with the compaction pressure, and optimum pressure was found to be 10 MPa. At 55$0^{\circ}C$ of reduction temperature, the blackness increased as the reaction time increased. The blackness of synthesized black titanium oxide was 14 to 18, and the average particle size was 0.2 $\mu\textrm{m}$.

  • We produced a basic system of sterilization of nutrient solution based on the characteristics of coated filter with the visible light-reactive titanium oxide photocatalyst according to the findings of the first stage. We developed a model system with a proper number and arrangement of filter elements, the visible light-reactive titanium oxide photocatalyst according to findings from the basic performance test. Main results of this study were as followers; The ceramic filters showed the best performance of sterilization of nutrient solution. The visible light-reactive titanium oxide photocatalyst sterilized more effectively the nutrient solution under the sunlight than UV light. The sterilization performance by passing repeatedly through a few filter was more efficient than that by treating simultaneously with a large number of filters. The filter with 15ppi in pore size, 20 mm in thickness, and 3 layers in titanium oxide coating was desirable in the intensity and sterilization performance.

  • In the present study, the focus is on the synthesis of titanium carbide/cobalt composite powder by the spray thermal conversion process using metallic salt solution as the raw materials. Two types of oxide powders of Ti-Co-O system were prepared by the spray drying of two types of metallic salt solutions : titanium chloride-cobalt nitrate and $TiO_2$ powder-cobalt nitrate solutions. These oxide powders were mixed with carbon black, and then these mixtures were carbothermal reduced under a flowing argon atmosphere. The changes in the phase structure and thermal gravity of the mixtures during carbothermal reduction were analysed using XRD and TG-DTA. In the case of using the titanium chloride-cobalt nitrate solution, it could not be obtained TiC/Co composite powder due to contamination of the impurities during the spray drying of the solution. However, in tile case of using the $TiO_2$ powder-cobalt nitrate scullion, TiC-15 wt. %Co composite powder could be synthesized by the spray thermal conversion process. The synthesized TiC-15 wt. %Co composite powder at 120$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours has average particle size of 150 nm.

  • The temperature-programmed reduction of titanium oxide ($TiO_2$) with pure $CH_4$ was used for the preparation of titanium carbide crystallites. The synthesized materials had the different surface areas, indicating that the structural properties of these materials were strong functions of two different heating rates and space velocity employed. The titanium carbide crystallites were active for $NH_3$ decomposition. Since the reactivity varied with changes in the particle size, ammonia decomposition reactivity over the titanium carbides crystallites appeared to be related to the different active species. The reactivities of titanium carbide crystallites were two and three times lower than those of the vanadium and molybdenum carbide crystallites, respectively. These results suggested that the difference in activities might be related to the degree of electron transfer between metals and carbon.

  • Titanium alloy (grade-4) is commonly used in industrial and medical applications. To improve its corrosion resistance and biocompatibility for medical use, it is necessary to form a titanium oxide film. In this study, the morphology of the oxide film formed by anodizing Ti-grade 4 using different electrolytes was analyzed. Wetting properties before and after surface modification with SAM coating were also observed. Electrolytes used were categorized as A, B, and C. Electrolyte A consisted of 0.3 M oxalic acid and ethylene glycol. Electrolyte B consisted of 0.1 M NH4F and 0.1 M H2O in ethylene glycol. Electrolyte C consisted of 0.07 M NH4F and 1 M H2O in ethylene glycol. Samples B and C exhibited a porous structure, while sample A formed a thickest oxide film with a droplet-like structure. AFM analysis and contact angle measurements showed that sample A with the highest roughness exhibited the best hydrophilicity. After surface modification with SAM coating, it displayed superior hydrophobicity. Despite having the thickest oxide film, sample A showed the lowest insulation resistance due to its irregular structure. On the other hand, sample C with a thick and regular porous oxide film demonstrated the highest insulation resistance.
