타이어 종류 (Wide Base Tire and Dual Tire Assembly)에 따른 아스팔트 포장 반응 평가 (Evaluation of Pavement Responses under Wide Base Tire and Dual Tire Assembly)

  • PURPOSES : The first generation of wide base tires introduced in the early 1980s was found to cause a significant increase in pavement damage compared to dual-tire assemblies. However, wide base tires have evolved considerably, and a new generation of wide base tire is thought to be comparable to conventional dual tires for pavement damage. A challenge associated with using wide base tires is the accurate quantification of pavement damage induced by these tires. The objective of this study was to investigate the responses of flexible pavement to continuously moving vehicular loading under various tire configurations. METHODS : The comparison of the strain/stress responses of full-depth pavement caused by conventional dual tire assembly and new generation of wide-base tires was performed. The FE model incorporates linear viscoelasticity of asphalt material and continuous moving load using implicit dynamic analysis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : The result demonstrates that the new wide-base tires caused slightly more fatigue damage and less primary rutting damage in HMA layer than a dual-tire assembly, but caused more secondary rutting damage in subgrade than a dual tire assembly.

3D 기반 자동차 조립 프로세스 개발 (Development of Vehicle Assembly Process based on 3D)

  • 조립공정의 상세한 과정을 보여주기 위해 Script 언어를 사용하여 자동차 조립공정을 3D로 시뮬레이션 하였다. 3D 가시화 기술은 산업현장에서의 학습활동을 가시화하는데 최적의 방법이 될 수 있다. 특히 시뮬레이션은 자동차 관련하여 엔진 부분과 타이어부분에 대하여 조립과정을 3D로 자동화하여 보여줄 수 있도록 구현하였다. 특히 터치스크린을 바탕으로 하여 사용자가 실제로 작업도중에 학습할 수 있도록 실험하였다.

  • The study on reducing vehicle noise and vibration has gained much attention to ensure the comfortability as well as the safety. These days. in this paper, we applied Statistical Energy Analysis(SEA) to characterize the tire assembly, which is useful analytical tool for mid- and high-frequency range. First, the SEA tire model was developed by dividing the tire and the wheel into several subsystems. The material properties were estimated experimentally. Finally. the SEA model was validated by comparing the estimated and the measured. In addition, we investigated the energy level and the energy transfering paths through the tire assembly in different frequency region.

타이어의 첫 번째 공기공동 공명에 관한 유한요소해석 (FE Analysis for Fundamental Air-cavity Resonant Frequency of Tire)

  • Vehicle interior noise is the results of numerous sources of excitation. One source involving tire pavement interaction is the tire cavity resonance and the forcing it provides to the vehicle spindle. Using a simplified model for the tire acoustic cavity system only, we formulated finite element equation to predict the fundamental acoustic cavity resonant characteristics inside tire-wheel assembly of undeformed and deformed tire. Combining the finite element analysis with experimental verification, we explained the acoustic characteristics theoretically. Especially, we have shown that the difference between the first two resonant frequencies increases as the deformation of deformed tire increases.

Application of DEM to Simulate Interaction between Soil and Tire Lug

  • Using the modified DEM (Distinct Element Model), which we proposed, the effect of cross section of tire lug on the tire performance was simulated. Though the DEM has an advantage over the FEM when it is applied to simulate the behavior of discrete assembly of particles such as soil, there was still a problem in the case of conventional DEM, that the simulated movement of particles was too free. We constructed a new mechanical model (modified DEM) which can take account of the effect of adhesion between particles. It is shown that the soil deformation is simulated by the modified DEM better than the conventional DEM. Comparing the simulated soil reaction to the tire lug with the experimental results, the adequate DEM parameters were found. It is also indicated possible to find the effect of lug cross section shape on the tractive performance of tire by the DEM simulation.

  • It is well known that the acoustic cavity inside the tire-wheel assembly contributes to vehicle interior noise. In this paper, we have performed acoustic and structural modal testings to investigate the influences of the acoustic cavity resonance on structural vibration characteristics for the tire in free-suspension and for the loaded tire. The testings have given us some findings, which are reported in this paper.

  • There is a certain limit to reproduce phenomena between the real vehicle and road, since the existing methods to verify durability of the wheel are mostly uni-axial tests. And the change of durability of the wheel can't be predicted since these tests don't consider the camber angle and lateral force as important factors. In this paper, the FE models of the wheel-tire and drum are created. Then, the vertical and lateral loads are applied to wheel-tire assembly and the camber angle is applied by inclining the wheel-tire assembly to the drum. Based on the analysis result, the crack position is predicted to be created in the body of the wheel. The variation of the stress according to the camber angle is verified and the maximum spot of the stress changes continually.

속도 추종 스페어 타이어 투입 시스템 개발 (Development of a synchronous automated system for inserting spare tire)

  • With a great requirement of innovation caused by severe competition current companies are encouraged to improve bottleneck areas in production procedure. Specially a chassis line in which assembly processes are mainly carried out manually has the large potential to be automated. The putting of spare tire in trunk in chassis line is still dominated by free dropping method. Through that, parts in trunk such as luggage room lamp, jack and so on were damaged and the complaint of assembler in the next process was occurred due to physical strength. To eliminate these, tile robot system was in this paper developed to place spare tire on the mounting hole in trunk. The movement of robot was synchronized with the velocity of chassis hanger. With this automated system the productivity of the chassis line was increased from the benefits such as simplification of the system using only robot without the mechanically synchronized transport, inserting spare tire into the right position with robot, reduction of damaged parts and production of various type of car.

  • It is well known that the acoustic cavity inside the tire-wheel assembly contributes to vehicle interior noise and ride comfort. In this paper, we performed acoustic and structural modal testings by varying the temperature ranging from $20^{\circ}\;to\;45^{\circ}C$ to investigate the effects of temperature on acoustic cavity resonance and structural vibration characteristics for unloaded and loaded tires. The testing has given us some findings, which are reported in this paper.
