Background In lower lateral cartilage (LLC) surgery, cephalic trimming poses risks for the collapse of the internal and external nasal valves, pinched nose, and drooping deformity. The cephalic lateral crural advancement (CLCA) technique presented herein was aimed at using a flap to increase nasal tip rotation and support the lateral crus, in addition to the internal and external nasal valves, by avoiding grafts without performing excision. Methods This study included 32 patients (18 female and 14 male) and the follow-up period for patients having undergone primer open rhinoplasty was 12 months. The LLC was elevated from the vestibular skin using the CLCA flap. A cephalic incision was performed without cephalic trimming. Two independent flaps were formed while preserving the scroll ligament complex. The CLCA flap was advanced onto the lower lateral crus while leaving the scroll area intact. The obtained data were analyzed retrospectively. Results The mean age of the patients was 31.6 years (range, 20-51 years). The Rhinoplasty Outcome Examination scores after 12 months varied from 90 to100 points, and 93% of patients reported perfect satisfaction. At a 1-year follow-up, the patients' nasal patency (visual analogue scale) rose from 4.56±1.53 (out of 10) to 9.0±0.65 (P<0.001). Conclusions The CLCA flap led to better nasal tip definition by protecting the scroll area, increasing tip rotation, and supporting the internal and external nasal valves without cephalic excision.
The stiffness evaluation of cracked base metal is of great guidance to fatigue crack reinforcement. By carrying out fatigue tests and numerical simulation of typical cracking details in steel box girder, the strain-degradation law of cracked base metal was analyzed and the relationship between base metal stress and its displacement (stiffness) was explored. The feasibility of evaluating the stress of cracked base metal based on the stress field at the crack tip was verified. The results demonstrate that the stiffness of cracked base metal shows the fast-to-slow degradation trend with fatigue cracking and the base metal at 50mm or more behind the crack tip basically lose its bearing capacity. Drilling will further accelerate stiffness degradation with the increase of hole diameters. The base metal stress has a negative linear relation with its displacement (stiffness), The stress of cracked base metal is also related to stress intensity factor and its relative position (distance, included angle) to the crack tip, through which the local stiffness can be effectively evaluated. Since the stiffness is not uniformly distributed along the cracked base metal, the reinforcement patch is suggested to be designed according to the stiffness to avoid excessive reinforcement for the areas incompletely unloaded.
The cut slope sliding which has been frequently encountered in Pohang area has been reported due to the rapid reduction of shear strength in mudstone after being exposed to the air. Mudstone has characteristics that it has high enough strength and stiffness in a dry condition, but the strength and stiffness decrease in a wet condition with groundwater infiltration. The case study in this paper shows that mudstone which had enough strength in a boring stage has lost the strength after installing PRD steel pipe pile inducing an insufficient bearing capacity, which has been ascertained by the static load test. Test construction has been performed to investigate the most favorable method for increasing a pile bearing capacity in mudstone with various methods such as MSG (Micro Silica Grouting) around the tip and side of a pile, the perimeter grouting combined with Micro pile reinforcement, and concrete filling after tip reinforcing grouting. From the test construction, MSG has been turned out to be the most favorable method for increasing a pile bearing capacity in mudstone, which has been confirmed by the static load test.
Nano fountain-pen is a novel device to make the constant patterning in micro process using new designed probe. Fountain-pen nanolithography (FPN) is applied for constant supply of liquid in conjunction of patterns and surface variation in the micro process. In this study, nuo fountain-pen is composed with reservoir, micro channels, tip and scondary chamber. Instead of traditional method only using capillary force, liquid can be definitely and exactly injected with membrane pumping by the repulse force of tip. It is dfficult to perform experiments in the micro range so that we carried out a numerical analysis for internal flow, using a commercial code, FlUENT, The velocity, pressure and flow rate are obtained under laminar, unsteady, three-dimensional incompressible flow with no-slip condition, and results are graphically described.
Recently, since robot manipulator becomes faster and lighter, its link is no longer regarded as rigid body, and robot controller which only controls robot position cannot reduce vibration of the flexible link. Therefore vibration control is needed in robot manipulator control in addition to position control. In the case that tip mass changes when robot manipulator in working, it is clear that the efficiency of the vibration/position controller designed for the fixed system goes down. In this paper, the system with time varying parameters, adaptive control theory is adopted which estimates parameters changed by the variation of the tip mass and re-calculates the gain of the controller. Validify of the proposed adaptive controller and capability of the estimator are evaluated by computer simulations and experiments. Comparison results of the optimal controller for the fixed system and proposed adaptive controller and carried out.
In the case of a crack propagation, a portion of the work of inelastic deformation near the crack tip is dissipated as heat. In order to understand the thermal effect on fracture toughness, tensile test was carried out using thermocouples to monitor the variation of temperature with SA516 Gr70. The experimental results show that the temperature of specimen was increased $3.6^{\circ}C$ at static load condition. And the thermal effect was investigated connected with the steady-state stress in the vicinity of a crack propagation in the elastic-plastic C-T specimen theoretically. And fracture toughness, the energy to make crack surfaces, presented correctively. The fracture toughness with considering heat at the blunting of the crack tip ws lower about 19.3% than that of ignoring heat. So, it is resonable to apply the fracture toughness with considering thermal energy and it would be good explanation for constraint effect depending on the configuration in the presence of excessive plasticity.
In order to determine and to reduce the differences between biochemical test method for the seed viability with T.T.C. (2, 3, 5. Triphenyl tetrazolium Chloride) reagent and germinator method, the topographical diagram of red colored formazan was carried out in 15-16 parts differences. From this resulted information, the classification of the typical staining reaction given for 3 species were derived into 3-4 parts for the germinable in normal seedling, the same as the following results. 1. Corn (Gram inaceae) * Entier embryo stained in bright red color. * Both extremities of scutellum unstained * Both extremities of scuttlium, coleorhiza and non-critial portions of radicle unstained. 2. Soybean (Leguminosae) *Seed completely stained in red color. *Minor unstained areas on cotyledons. *Extreme tip of radicle unstained; minor unstained areas on cotyledons 3. Radish (Cruciferae) *Seed completely stained. *Minor unstained areas on cotyledons. *Outer cotyledon mostly unstained: inner cotyledon completely stained Extreme tip of radicle unstained: large portion of outer cotyledon unstained.
In the case of a crack propagation a portion of the work of inelastic deformation near the crack tip is dissipated as heat. In order to understand the thermal effect on fracture toughness, tensile tests were carried out using thermocouples to monitor the variation of temperature. The experimental results show that the temperature of specimen was increased $5.4^{\circ}C$ at static load condition. And the thermal effect is investigated connected with the steady-state stress in the vicinity of a crack propagation in the elastic-plastic C-T specimen theoretically. And fracture toughness, the energy to make crack surfaces, presented correctively. The fracture toughness with considering heat at the blunting of the crack tip is lower about 16.9% than that of ignoring heat. So, it is resonable to apply the fracture toughness with considering thermal energy and it would be good explanation for constraint effect depending on the configuration in the presence of excessive plasticity.
We demonstrate a novel fabrication technology for the microneedle array that can be used in the medical test field, which is transdermal drug delivery and blood analyte sampling. Previous researchers have used silicon-processed micromachining, a reactive ion etching, and molding techniques for the fabrication of microneedle array. However, these fabrication techniques have somewhat limitations apply to the microneedle array fabrication according to its application. Inclined LIGA process is suggested to overcome these problems. This process provides easier, sharper and longer out-of-plane microneedle array structure than conventional silicon-processed fabrication method did. Additionally, because of the advantage of the LIGA process based on mold fabrication for mass production, the polymer, PMMA(PolyMethylMethAcrylate), based microneedle array is useful as the mold base of nickel electroplating process; on the other hand, silicon-processed microneedle array is used in itself. In this research, we fabricate different types of out-of-plane microneedle array, which have different shape of tip, base and hole structure, using the inclined LIGA process. The fabricated microneedles have proper mechanical strength, height and sharpness to puncture human hand epidermis or dermis with less pain and without needle tip break during penetrating the skin.
