낙동강 하구역에 출현하는 문절망둑 (Acanthogobius flavimanus) 자치어의 식성 (Feeding Habits of Larval Acanthogobius flavimanus from the Nakdong River Estuary, Korea)

  • 낙동강 하구역에 서식하는 문절망둑 자치어의 식성을 밝히기 위해 2011년 2월부터 4월까지 RN80 네트를 이용하여 채집하였고, 그 중 260개체를 해부현미경을 이용하여 장내용물 분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 문절망둑 자치어는 요각류와 유종섬모충류를 주로 섭식하였고, 그 외에도 갯지렁이 유생, 거구목(편형동물), 이매패류 유생, 윤충류, 따개비 유생, 규조류 등을 섭식하였다. 문절망둑 자치어는 시간대별로 다른 섭식강도를 보였는데, 18~19시 사이에 가장 높은 섭식참여율 보였고, 개체당 먹이생물 개체수는 18~01시까지 높은 수준을 유지하였다. 성장에 따른 문절망둑 자치어의 식성변화를 평가하기 위해 발생단계(3단계: 전기, 중기, 후기자어) 별로 먹이생물을 분석한 결과, 전기자어 시기에는 유종섬모충류를 주로 섭식하였고, 중기자어기에는 요각류, 후기자어 시기에는 갯지렁이 유생을 주로 섭식하였다. 문절망둑 자치어의 먹이생물의 평균크기는 성장에 따라 유의하게 증가하였고, 개체당 평균먹이생물 평균 개체수와 평균 부피도 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 먹이생물의 다양성을 나타내는 먹이 섭식 폭 지수는 중기자어 시기까지는 증가하다가 후기자어에 들어 급격히 감소하였다.

남해 거제도 장목만에서 부유성 섬모충의 시기별 분포 특성 (Temporal Distribution of Planktonic Ciliates in Jangmok Bay, South Coast of Korea)

  • Ciliate plankton samples were collected biweekly from July 2006 to June 2008 in Jangmok Bay of Geoje Island. Species composition and abundances were analyzed by quantitative protargol stain and environmental parameters were also examined. A total of 88 ciliate species occurred during the study period, consisting of 22 tintinnids, 51 oligotrichs, and 15 other species. Higher ciliate abundances appeared from June to October during the warm season ($<20^{\circ}C$) and the maximum ($4.0{\times}10^4\;cells\;L^1$) in August, while the lower abundances were found during the cold season. The minimun ciliate abundance was found in November when water temperature rapidly decreased. The temporal succession of dominant species was very clear and opportunistic. Pelagostrombidium sp., Tontonia simplicidens, Helicostomella subulata, and Myrionecta rubra were co-dominant in summer while Rimostrombidium orientale occurred abundantly in winter. Strombidium tressum and S. compressum, eurythermal species, were observed during all seasons. Based on the species-specific ecology of ciliate plankton, it is suggested that the indicative ciliate species can be applied as a biological tool to detect environmental change in the southern coastal waters of korea.

  • The spatial distribution and composition of the mesozooplankton community in the southeastern Barents Sea were observed at 17 stations, from 12 to 28 July 2002. Six taxa of zooplankton were found, including tintinnids, copepods, cumaceans, appendicularians, polychaetes, and barnacle larvae. Copepods were dominant, comprising 74% of the community. The copepod species Limnocalanus grimaldii, Pseudocalanus acuspes, Calanus glacialis, Calanus finmarchicus, and Microsetella norvegica, and the cumacean species Diastylis rathkei and Campylaspis rubicunda were identified. The overall mean abundance of the zooplankton was 72 indiv.l0 $\mu \textrm m^{-3}$ in the study area, ranging from 4 to 197 indiv.l0$\mu \textrm m^{-3}$. Zooplankton was more abundant at the oceanic than the coastal stations. The highest biomass measured was 97.4mg $\mu \textrm m^{-3}$, the mean biomass was 36.9 mg 10$\mu \textrm m^{-3}$, 93% of which was copepods. Pseudocalanus acuspes, C. glacialis, and C. finmarchicus predominated, accounting for 61% of abundance and 86% of biomass. Spatial distributions of the zooplankton community in the study area depended on the variations in water temperature and salinity, which were influenced by freshwater runoff from the continent.

  • The feeding habits of larval (5.0~27.0 mm SL) Clupea pallasii were examined and 1,523 individuals were collected from November 2010 to March 2011 in the coastal water of Eastern Jinhae Bay, Korea. Larval C. pallasii were fed mainly on copepods that constituted 55.2% in IRI. Monogeneans were the second largest prey component, another prey items tintinnids, cladocerans and ostracoda. The results of analysis in ontogenetic changes exhibit high during the daytime, two small size classes (${\leq}10mm$, 10~15 mm) mainly fed copepods. while the percentage of coperpods decreased, monogeneans ratio increased in 15~20 mm size class. Feeding rate in diel difference of larval C. pallasii were high during the daytime.

  • We examined the feeding habits of larval Clupea pallasii using 148 specimens collected from December 2010 to April 2011 in the Nakdong River estuary, Korea. We found that larval C. pallasii [8.3-26.0 mm NL (notochord length)] are carnivorous, consuming mainly copepods, rotifers, cirripeds, and free-living flatworms (Macrostomida). Their diet also include small quantities of shrimp nauplii, tintinnids, cladocerans, and larval bivalves, among other food sources. To evaluate ontogenetic changes in dietary composition, we split larvae into four size groups: 8-12 mm, 12-16 mm, 16-20 mm, and > 20 mm NL. Rotifers were the most important prey items for the smallest group, but all other groups predominantly consumed copepods. The largest group frequently preyed on rotifers, cirripeds and flatworms, in addition to copepods. Larvae also showed bi-modal feeding, with peaks in the late afternoon and at midnight, wherein the mean number of prey per individual peaked at 1,800-1,900 h.

  • We examined the feeding habits of larval Konosirus punctatus using 165 specimens collected from May to August 2011 in the Nakdong River estuary, Korea. We found that larval K. punctatus [3.9-8.4 mm notochord length (NL)] are carnivorous, consuming mainly rotifers. Their diet also included small numbers of rhizopods, tintinnids, euglenoids, copepods, larval bivalves, dinoflagellates, diatoms, and unidentified materials. To evaluate ontogenetic changes in dietary composition, we split the larvae into three size groups: < 5 mm, 5-6 mm, and > 6 mm NL. The smallest size group frequently preyed on rhizopods. As NL increased, the number of rotifers increased relative to those of rhizopods. Larvae also showed bimodal feeding for feeding incidence, with peaks in the midafternoon and at midnight, while the mean number of prey per individual peaked at 18:00-19:00 h.

  • The feeding habits of larval Engraulis japonicas (3.2-11.0 mm SL) were examined based on 414 individuals, collected in October 2010, and from June to September 2011, in the coastal waters of Eastern Jinhae Bay, Korea. E. japonicus, fed mainly on copepods 62.6% IRI and tintinnid were the second-largest dietary component. E. japonicus diet also included small quantities of rotifers, eggs and diatoms. The results of analysis of ontogenetic changes showed that E. japonicus of small size classes (${\leq}4mm$) fed primarily on tintinnids. The dietary percentage of copepods decreased, as fish size increased, and monogeneans became increasingly important as size class increased above 4-6 mm. The highest rate of daily feeding E. japonicusi took place during the day.

  • Tintinnid species distribution has been monitored in the northern East China Sea (ECS) in the summer of 2006 through 2011. This is used to understand the water mass movements in the northern ECS. The warm oceanic tintinnid species had largely spread in 2007 in the area, indicating that there was greater warm water extension into the northern ECS. However the extension of neritic water within the Changjiang diluted water mass has strengthened in 2008 and 2010 because the neritic species distribution had relatively grown in both years. These annual results based on the biological indicators of tintinnid species are well matched with the salinity change in the area. The warm oceanic species, Dadayiella ganymedes had frequently occurred over the study years and had shown a significant relationship with the salinity change. This is valuable as a key stone species for monitoring the intrusion of the Kuroshio within the northern ECS. Information from tintinnid biological indicators can support physical oceanography data to confirm ambiguous water mass properties.

  • The Feeding habits of larval Liparis tanakae collected from the Nakdong River estuary were studied. L. tanakae [3.8-10.6 mm notochord length(NL)] was a carnivore thatconsumed mainly copepods. Its diet also included small numbers of free-living flatworms (Macrostomida), tintinnids, cladocerans, and polychaetes larvae. To evaluate ontogenetic changes in dietary composition, three size groups were designated: 3-5, 5-7, and >7 mm. Copepods were the most important prey items for all size groups. The smallest size group frequently preyed on polychaete and bivalve larvae, along with copepods. As notochord length increased, the numbers of cladocerans and Macrostomida increased relative to those of polychaete and bivalve larvae.

  • 광양만에서 여름철 자어의 먹이생물이 되는 소형동물플랑크톤의 출현량과 종조성을 연구하기 위하여 1995년 5월 22일부터 8월 3일까지 2주 간격으로 조사하였다. 우점종은 유종섬모충류의 Tintinnopsis spp., Codonellopsis sp., 요각류의 난과 nauplius 유생으로 전체 소형동물플랑크톤의 $83.3{\%}$를 차지하였다. 소형동물플랑크톤은 조사가 시작된 5월 22일에 374.6 ind./l가 출현하였다. 6월에는 1,276.0 ind./l와 1,234.9 ind./l로 증가하였다가, 7월과 8월에는 $528.2{\~}6.908 ind./l$로 감소하였다. 소형동물플랑크톤의 출현량과 종조성은 자어에 의한 포식의 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다.
