Reactivated Timings of Yangsan Fault in the Northern Pohang Area, Korea (포항 북부지역 양산단층의 재활동 연대)

  • Here we present the timings of reactivated events from a fault in the northern Pohang area, which should be located at the northern-end of Yangsan fault line, the major fault in the southeastern Korean Peninsula. Recently developed illite-age-analysis (IAA) approach was employed for determining the fault-activated timing, combined with illite-polytype quantification using the optimized full-pattern-fitting (FPF) method, and K-Ar age-dating for each size fraction($<0.1{\mu}m$, $0.1-0.4{\mu}m$, and $0.4-1.0{\mu}m$) of 4 fault clay samples. Two chronological records of brittle fault-activation events were recognized at $19.6{\pm}1.86Ma$ and $26.1{\pm}2.55-27.9{\pm}3.46Ma$. The ages are much younger than those of fault clays from Sangcheon-ri area (41.5~43.5 and 50.7 Ma), the southern part of Yangsan fault line, and are close to the timing of East Sea-opening event. Further chronological analysis for additional sites of the Yangsan fault should be needed to reveal the time-scheme of the tectonic events and their spatial distributions along the fault line.

A Comparative Analysis of South and North Korean Earth Science Curriculum using the TIMSS 2019 Eighth Grade Earth Science Evaluation Framework (TIMSS 2019의 8학년 지구과학 평가틀을 이용한 남한과 북한 지구과학 내용 비교 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the earth science curriculums of South Korea and North Korea. Aspects such as the content of the curriculums and the timing of learning were analyzed, in order to provide basic data that can be used to design a revised and integrated Korean curriculum. The objects of this study were South Korean Science textbooks from grades 5-9, and the high school Unity of Science and Earth Science I and II textbooks. Additionally, from North Korea, the junior middle school Natural Science 1 and 2 textbooks and the senior middle school Chosun Geography 2 and Geography 1 textbooks were analyzed. The results of this study obtained through an analysis that used the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS 2019) grade 8 earth science assessment framework were as follows. First, South Korea needs to adopt iterative learning. Repetitive learning, which is effective for understanding what is being learned, is applied to only 1 by 8th grade. Second, South Korea needs to adjust the time when certain content is learned. This is because there is a disparity between when content is learned in comparison to North Korea, and the timing of learning of about 50% of the TIMSS standards have not been followed. Third, it is necessary to reflect the content present within the TIMSS that have not been learned. This can be a way to increase the nations' educational competitiveness in the international community. This paper proposed a comparative analysis of South korean and North Korean approaches to the earth science curriculum and conducted practical research to facilitate the construction of an integrated curriculum.

Water Supply Reliability Revaluation For Agricultural Water Supply Pattern Changes Considering Climate Changes (기후변화에 따른 농업용수공급패턴의 변화로 인한 이수안전도변화분석)

  • This research was performed to examine changes in the timing of the growth of crops along with changes in temperatures due tochanges and to analyze the change of water-supply-reliability by adding an analysis of the change of agricultural water supply patterns in the basin area of Miryang dam in Korea. Had-CM3 model from U.K. was the tool adopted for the GCM model, a stochastic, daily-meteorology-generation-model called LARS-WG was alsoused for downscaling and for the climate change scenario (A1B) which represents Korea's circumstances best. First of all, to calculate changes in the timing of the growth of crops during this period, the theory of GDD was applied. Except for the period of transplanting and irrigation, there was no choice but to find the proper accumulated temperature by comparing actual temperature data and the supply pattern of agricultural use due to limited temperature data. As a result, proper temperatures were found for each period. $400^{\circ}C$ for the preparation period of a nursery bed, $704^{\circ}C$ for a nursery bed's period, $1,295^{\circ}C$ for the rice-transplanting period, $1,744^{\circ}C$ for starting irrigation, and $3,972^{\circ}C$ for finishing irrigation. To analyze future agricultural supply patter changes, the A1B scenario of Had-CM3 model was adopted, and then Downscaling was conducted adopting LARS-WG. To conduct a stochastical analysis of LARS-WG, climate scenarios were generated for the periods 2011~2030, 2046~2065, 2080~2099 using the data of precipitation andMax/Min temperatures collected from the Miryang gauging station. Upon reviewing the result of the analysis of accumulated temperatures from 2011~2030, the supply of agricultural water was 10 days earlier, and in the next periods-2046~2065, 2080~2099 it also was 10 days earlier. With these results, it is assumed that the supply of agricultural water should be about 1 month ahead of the existing schedule to meet the proper growth conditions of crops. From the results of the agricultural water supply patterns should be altered, but the reliability of water supply becomes more favorable, which is caused from the high precipitation change. Furthermore, since the unique characteristics of precipitation in Korea, which has high precipitation in the summer, water-supply-reliability has a pattern that the precipitation in September could significantly affect the chances of drought the following winter and spring. It could be more risky to make changes to the constant supply pattern under these conditions due to the high uncertainty of future precipitation. Although, several researches have been conducted concerning climate changes, in the field of water-industry, those researches have been solely dependent on precipitation. Even so, with the high uncertainty of precipitation, it is difficult for it to be reflected in government policy. Therefore, research in the field of water-supply-patterns or evapotranspiration according to the temperature or other diverse effects, which has higher reliability on anticipation, could obtain more reliable results in the future and that could result in water-resource maintenance to be safer and a more advantageous environment.

Analysis of Compression-induced Auto-ignition Combustion Characteristics of HCCI and ATAC Using the Same Engine

  • Controlled Auto-ignition (CAI) combustion processes can be broadly divided between a CAI process that is applied to four-cycle engines and a CAI process that is applied to two-cycle engines. The former process is generally referred to as Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) combustion and the later process as Active Thermo-Atmosphere Combustion (ATAC) The region of stable engine operation differs greatly between these two processes, and it is thought that the elucidation of their differences and similarities could provide useful information for expanding the operation region of HCCI combustion. In this research, the same two-cycle engine was operated under both the ATAC and HCCI combustion processes to compare their respective combustion characteristics. The results indicated that the ignition timing was less likely to change in the ATAC process in relation to changes in the fuel octane number than it was in the HCCI combustion process.

Performance Analysis of a Fractionally Spaced Equalizer using Selective Normalized CMA (선택적 NCMA 방법을 이용한 분할 블라인드 적응 등화기의 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, the selective normalized constant modulus algorithm(SNCMA) is applied to a fractionally spaced equalizer. The fractionally spaced equalizer is insensitive to the sampling timing because it processes received signals with the sampling rate larger than the symbol rate. The SNCMA improves the convergence rate by using the large step size for the most outer covering symbol belonging to the trust-level. This blind equalizer exhibits a fast start-up convergence rate as well as a reduced steady-state residual error compared to the fractionally spaced blind equalizer and the T-spaced blind equalizer using conventional blind algorithms.

  • 열역학 제 2법칙의 관점의 열역학적 가용에너지인 엑서지 해석법을 적용하여 가솔린, 메탄올, M90 연료를 사용한 전기점화 기관의 성능해석을 수행하였다. 열역학적 사이클 해석을 위하여 사이클을 구성하는 각 과정은 열역학적 모델로 단순화하였고, 크랭크 각도에 따른 실린더의 압력과 작동유체를 구성하는 연료, 공기 및 연소생성물의 열역학적 물성 값들을 이용하여 각 과정에서의 엑서지와 손실 일을 계산하였다. 실험데이터는 단기통 전기점화기관을 가솔린, 메탄올과 M90(메탄을 90%+부탄 10%의 혼합연료)을 연료로 WOT(Wide Open Throttle), MBT(Minimum advanced spark timing for Best Torque), 2500rpm 조건으로 운전하여 측정하였다. 계산에 이용한 자료는 실험으로 측정한 크랭크 각도에 따른 연소실의 압력, 흡입공기와 연료유량, 흡입공기 온도, 냉각수 온도와 배출가스 온도 등이다. 이를 이용하여 각 과정에서의 엑서지와 손실 일을 계산하였으며 각 과정에서의 손실 일은 연소과정에서 가장 크며 팽창과정, 배출과정, 압축과정 및 흡입과정 순으로 크게 나타났다.

Address Configuration Module for mSCTP Handover

  • This paper proposes a dynamic IP address configuration (DAC) scheme for mSCTP handover, which exploits the information from the link layer to support SCTP handover between heterogeneous access networks. The proposed DAC scheme enables a mobile terminal to automatically add a new IP address in the newly visited region, change the primary path, and delete the old IP address so as to support the mSCTP handover. For experimental analysis of mSCTP handover, we consider the handover scenarios for 3G-BWA and 3G-WLAN over Linux platforms. From experimental results, it is shown that the throughput and handover latency of the mSCTP handover would be affected by the timing of primary-change and the overlapping period.

  • 본 논문에서는 8VSB수신기가 다중경로신호에 따른 성능이 나쁜 것에 대한 원인 분석과 나아가 개선책을 제시하기 위해 다중경로 신호가 디지털 지상파 TV의 수신성능에 미치는 영향에 대해 수신단의 STR(Symbol Timing Recovery)과 등화기를 중심으로 분석한다. 첫째 등화기의 성능 분석을 위해 에코의지연시간이 7.5 $\mu$sec일 때 시불변 환경에서 전산 모의 실험을 하였다. 등화기 수렴후의 에로 레벨에 따른 TOV(Threshold of Visibility) S/N(Signal to Noise)를 구해보면 호주의 실험실 측정과는 달리 0dB에서도 S/N이 26dB 정도이면 등화기는 안정적으로 수렴한다. 둘째 세그먼트 동기 복원을 세그먼트 싱크 필터(Segment Sync:+1, +1. -1, -1)를 사용했을 때 짧은 시간 지연 에코와 긴 시간 지연 에코에 대해 S 커브를 보면 짧은 시간 지연에코에서는 심볼 타이밍이 어긋났으며 긴 시간 지연 에로에서는 문제가 없이 타이밍 동기가 된다. 셋째 짧은 시간 지연 에코신호가 있을 때 세그먼트 동기 복원과 등화기를 연동한 전산 모의 실험을 하여 에코의 영향을 분석하고 FSE(Fractionally Spaced Equalizer) 등화기 사용에 따른 장점을 분석한다.

Low Power Design of the Neuroprocessor

  • This paper presents the performance analysis for CPL based design of a Low power digital neuroprocessor. We have verified the functionality of the components at the high level using Verilog and carried out the simulations in Silos. The components of the proposed digital neuroprocessor have also been verified at the layout level in LASI. The layouts have then been simulated and analyzed in Winspice for their timing characteristics. The result shows that the proposed digital neuroprocessor consistently consumes less power than other designs of the same function. It can also be seen that the proposed functions have lesser propagation delay and thus higher speed compared to the other designs.

  • In this paper, we studied hierarchical channel coding scheme using unequal error protection method fur consecutively broadcastingservice under the rain attenuation of Ka band satellite broadcasting. Unlike time-sharing methods, which are design for different channel coding scheme in according to different modulation, unequal error protection method is made in such way that minimum distance between signals are different for importance of signals with same modulation. Consequently we proposed optimal method according to performance analysis.
