  • The development of efficient multimodal interfaces and fusion algorithms requires knowledge of usage patterns that show how people use multiple modalities. We analyzed multimodal usage patterns for TV-guide application scenarios (or tasks). In order to collect usage patterns, we implemented a multimodal usage pattern collection system having two input modalities: speech and touch-gesture. Fifty-four subjects participated in our study. Analysis of the collected usage patterns shows a positive correlation between the task type and multimodal usage patterns. In addition, we analyzed the timing between speech-utterances and their corresponding touch-gestures that shows the touch-gesture occurring time interval relative to the duration of speech utterance. We believe that, for developing efficient multimodal fusion algorithms on an application, the multimodal usage pattern analysis for the given application, similar to our work for TV guide application, have to be done in advance.

  • Data mining technology is applied to various fields because it is a technique for analyzing vast amount of data and finding useful information. In this paper, we propose a big data analysis method that uses Apriori algorithm, which is a data mining technique, to find the related factors that have negative and positive influences on school adjustment. Among Korea Child and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), data related to adjustment to school life and data showing parental inclinations were extracted from the data of fourth grade elementary school students, first year middle school students, and high school freshman students, respectively and we have mapped the useful association rules among them. As a result, the factors affecting school adjustment were different according to the timing of the growth process, we were able to find interesting rules by looking for connections between rules. On the other hand, the factors that positively influenced school adjustment were not significantly different from each other, and overall, they were associated with positive variables.

  • A simulation of failures on responsible elements is only one form of the extreme structural behavior analysis. By understanding the dynamic behavior in incidental situations, it is possible to make a special structural design from the point of the largest axial force, stress and redundancy. The numerical realization of one such simulation analysis was performed using FEM in this paper. The boundary parameters of transient analysis, such as overall structural damping coefficient, load accelerations, time of load fall and internal forces in the responsible structural elements, were determined on the basis of the dynamic experimental parameters. The structure eigenfrequencies were determined in modal analysis. In the study, the basic incidental models were set. The models were identified by many years of monitoring incidental situations and the most frequent human errors in work with heavy structures. The combined load models of structure are defined in the paper since the incidents simply arise as consequences of cumulative errors and failures. A feature of a combined model is that the single incident causes the next incident (consecutive timing) as well as that other simple dynamic actions are simultaneous. The structure was observed in three typical load positions taken from the crane passport (range-load). The obtained dynamic responses indicate the degree of structural sensitivity depending on the character of incident. The dynamic coefficient KD was adopted as a parameter for the evaluation of structural sensitivity.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate deterioration factors and weighting factors in pipe network which each local self-governments takes rehabilitation and replacement work present time. Deterioration factors in pipe network are able to effected of specific province or location related with water supply. Most of water supply pipes are laid under the ground, it is hard to quantify deterioration degree of water system. Moreover, the timing and economic limitation and insufficient information on the spot survey gives a difficulty to look over how old water supply system is. Accordingly, this study collects and analyses five data as the laying environment, visual analysis, analysis of soil contents, analysis of pipe material, and questionary survey data in water pipe of A city. The deterioration factor estimates 14 factors with excavation and experimental analysis and 9 factors without excavation and experimental analysis. Also, the weighting factors are estimated by using the multiple linear regressions and the linear programming. The estimated deterioration factor and weighting results are compared the analysis result of visual, pipe material, and soil contents with the Probabilistic Neural Network Model. Consequently, the model results of estimated 9 factors in this study and 14 factors show the 1-2% difference. The result show that the proposed model could be used to decide the deterioration condition of pipe line with real excavation and experimental analysis.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study were to compare general characteristic of high school girls according to menarcheal age and to investigate the factors associated with the menarcheal age of high school girls. Methods: This study utilized the data of the 2013 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (KYRBWS). The sample included 18,077 high school girls who experienced menarche. The questionnaires used for this study assessed menacheal age, grade, place of residence, family affluence, height, weight, diet pattern, physical activity, sleep duration, and stress level. Data was analyzed using the complex sample analysis (${\chi}^2$-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis). Results: Higher BMI, frequent vegetable consumption, short sleep duration, and higher stress level were associated with an earlier menarcheal age among high school girls. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate intervention strategies to control the timing of menarche.

  • For the efficient energy consumption in an urban railway station, it is necessary to know the patterns of electrical loads for each usage in detail. The electrical loads in an urban railway station have different characteristics from other normal electrical load, such as the peak load timing during a day. The lighting, HVAC, communication, and commercial loads make up large amount of electrical load for equipment in an urban railway station, and each of them has the unique specificity. These loads for each usage were estimated without measuring device by the polynomial regression method with big data such as total amount of electrical load and weather data. In the simulation with real data, the optimal polynomial regression model was third order polynomial regression model with 9 or 10 independent variables.

  • Superconductivity has various applications in the whole industry such as the generation of high magnetic field for medical care and diagnosis, the lossless power transmission, environment-friendly vehicles and clean energy storage systems. This paper deals with the High-Tc superconducting(HTS) power supply using heater-triggered switch for the charging of the superconducting magnets. HTS superconducting power supply consists of two heaters, an electromagnet, and Bi-2223 solenoid and Bi-2223 pancake is used as a superconducting load, similar to real HTS magnet. The timing sequential control of two heaters and an electromagnet is an important factor to generate pumping- current in the Bi-2223 load. The thermal analysis of switching parts of the Bi-2223 solenoid according to the heater input was carried out. Based upon the analysis, the 0.8A of heater current were optimally derived. The maximum pumping current reached 1.7A.

  • Circadian rhythms, time on a scale of about 24 hours, are present in a number of organisms including animals, plants, and bacteria. The control of the biochemical, physiological and behavioral processes is regulated by endogenous clocks in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). At the core of this timing mechanism is molecular machinery that are present both in the brain and in the peripheral tissues throughout the body, and even in a single cultured cell. In this study, we performed two-dimensional gel electrophoresis to figure out any correlation between protein expression patterns and the requirement of two canonical clock proteins, either mPER1 or mPER2, by comparing global protein expression profiles in livers from wildtype or mPer1/mPer2 double mutant mice. We could identify several differentially expressed protein candidates with respect to time and genotypes. Further analysis of these candidate proteins in detail in vivo will lead us to the better understanding of how circadian clock functions in mammals.
