Real-Time Continuous-Scale Image Interpolation with Directional Smoothing

  • A real-time, continuous-scale image interpolation method is proposed based on a bilinear interpolation with directionally adaptive low-pass filtering. The proposed algorithm was optimized for hardware implementation. The ordinary bi-linear interpolation method has blocking artifacts. The proposed algorithm solves this problem using directionally adaptive low-pass filtering. The algorithm can also solve the severe blurring problem by selectively choosing low-pass filter coefficients. Therefore, the proposed interpolation algorithm can realize a high-quality image scaler for a range of imaging systems, such as digital cameras, CCTV and digital flat panel displays.

  • 디지털 영상 확대를 위한 영상 스케일링은 고품질의 영상이 요구될수록 많은 수행시간 및 하드웨어 자원량이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 적은 연산량 및 하드웨어 자원으로 고품질 영상을 생성하는 이중 선형-3차회선 보간법을 제안한다. 제안한 보간법은 4번의 선형 보간법과 1번의 3차회선 보간법으로 이루어진 선형-3차회선 보간법을 수평방향과 수직방향으로 각각 수행하는 구조이다. 실험결과, 제안하는 보간법은 PSNR과 수행시간 및 하드웨어 자원량 측면에서 비교했을 때, 적은 연산량 및 하드웨어 자원으로 양 3차회선 보간법보다 우수한 PSNR을 제공했다.

  • 본 논문은 COFDM 시스템에 대해 기존의 선형 보간 필터에 비해 보다 정확한 추정을 위해 가우시안 보건 필터와 입방 원형자 보간 필터가 제시되었다. 또한 보간 필터에 의한 채널 추정치의 잡음 성분을 제거하기 위해 IFFT와 FFT를 이용한 저역 통과 필터를 제시하였다. 보간 필터와 저역 통과 필터를 결합한 채널 추정치는 보간 필터만을 사용한 것에 비해 에러 바닥을 낮출 수 있다. 제시된 채널 추정 기법을 시변 다중 경로 페이딩 채널의 COFDM 시스템에 적용시켜 컴퓨터 모의 시험한 결과, 기존의 선형 보간 필터에 비해 성능이 향상됨을 보였으며, 저역 통과 필터를 결합한 경우에는 완벽한 채널 추정과 비교시 BER이 10-4일 때 Eb/No가 0.1∼0.2dB 정도 차이만이 존재한다.

온라인 방식의 공구경로 계획을 내장한 지능형 NURBS 곡면 보간 시스템 (Intelligent NURBS Surface Interpolation System with Embedded Online Tool-Path Planning)

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the machining of free-formed NURBS surfaces using newly defined G-codes which can directly deal with shapes defined from CAD/CAM programs on a surface basis and specialize in rough and finish cut. To this purpose, a NURBS surface interpolation system is proposed in this paper. The proposed interpolation system includes online tool-path planning, real-time interpolation and feedrate regulation considering an effective machining method and minimum machining time all suitable for unit NURBS surface machining. The corresponding algorithms are simultaneously executed in an online manner. The proposed NURBS surface interpolation system is integrated and implemented with a PC-based 3-axis CNC milling system. A graphic user interface (GUI) and a 3D tool-path viewer which interprets the G-codes for NURBS surfaces and displays whole tool-paths are also developed and included in our real-time control system. The proposed system is evaluated through actual machining in terms of size of NC data, machining time, regulation of feedrate and cutting force focused on finish cut in comparison with the existing method.

PC기반CNC시스템을 위한 Look Ahead 보간 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Look Ahead Interpolation Algorithm For PC Based CNC System)

  • This research aims to develop Look Ahead position interpolation algorithm for small size CNC machine controlled by PC based controller. Look Ahead scheme can process a bundle of CNC's linear interpolation commands simultaneously, which reduces acceleration and deceleration time within single linear interpolation command. The algorithm is derived as simple analytical form which can be adapted to PC based CNC system by C language programming. The performance of the algorithm was verified by tail stock machining G codes experimentally. The average traverse speed of the CNC machine was increased by 27.5% and the total traverse time also reduced by 27.2% with the Look Ahead scheme.

  • To maintain high spacial accuracy and rapid CPU time in interpolating data from grid to random position or inversely in PIV, proposed many technuques are compared and discussed mainly in terms of interpolating error and computing time. And artificial PIV atmosphere data is furnished by CFD result. First, for interpolation from grid to random position, multiquadric method gives the highest accuracy with the longest CPU time and Taylor series expansion methods give reasonable accuracy with less calculating load. Secondly, the sub-pixel resolution analysis in estimating the coordinates of the maximum correlation coefficients essential in the grey level correlation PIV reveal that 8-neighbours 2nd-order least square interpolation gives utmost accuracy in terms of the real flow conditions.

  • Lateral Information Propagation Neural Networks (LIPN) is proposed for on-line interpolation. The proposed neural network technique is the real time computation method through the inter-node diffusion. In the network, a node corresponds to a state in the quantized input space. Through several simulation experiments, real time reconstruction of the nonlinear image information is processed.

  • The interpolator is usually built in hardware (logic circuitry), and the interpolator fabricated in a single LSI chip is recently made use of in most NC controllers, making the system more compact. However, the LSI interpolator not only has the technical difficulties but also requires high cost, in its fabrication. To solve these problems, we tried to find the method of interpolation by software, and succeeded in developing a program which, executed by INTEL's 8085 microprocessor, can distribute the input pulses of up to 4.0 [Kpps] for the linear interpolation and 3.0 [Kpps] for the circular interpolation. This paper presents the algorithm used to reduce the execution time and the flow chart of the interpolation program, and also shows the possibility of software interpolation. The interpolation program designed in assembly language is presented in the appendix.

The Interpolation Method for the missing AIS Data of Ship

  • The interpolation of missing AIS data can be used for recovering the lost data of a ship's state which is then able to produce useful information for VTS stations or other ships. Previous research has introduced some interpolating methods however there are some problems with regard to missing AIS data. This paper proposes one new method which includes linear interpolation, cubic Hermit interpolation and an identification mechanism to overcome some of those limitations, first AIS data regarding ship position, COG, SOG and HDG is divided into separate time series, then the characteristic of the missing data is investigated into through using an identification mechanism, an appropriate interpolation is selected to fit all the time series which matches the characteristics. Numerical experiments are carried out using real AIS data to validate the algorithm of this approach and the results are compared with the previous method, after which the actual missing area is suggested to be interpolated by the proposed method. The interpolation results show this approach can be applied well in practice.
